I'm just looking at it as free summer child care, since all they really do in school is babysit them anyway. Earlier this year, my 6th grader had a geography question on the correct method that Australians use to apply sunscreen. Thus, I've determined that middle school education is also now worthless.

I didn't even think of those two countries being that close together. I hope everything works out for your travel.

So how does an Australian properly apply sunscreen??? :rotfl2:

Thanks! Hopefully we will continue to move forward as planned. Approximatley six (give or take 1-2) weeks left :thumbsup2

I remember watching that.

Monday night ownage.

Schools closed again tomorrow. Another day home.

Homeschool in session so another day in the office even though it is closed.
:rotfl2:

Morning guys. I'm hoping this situation in Ukraine gets resolved soon. Poland is a neighbor and we are worried that if this escalates we may be delayed in traveling. Of course, I also don't want to see anyone lose their life. It almost feels like the Russia of old, trying to bully the little countries of Eastern and Central Europe :(

Prayers that this mess doesn't interfere with our plans. I don't see it ending well for anyone. That part of the world is like the middle east with too many people groups that were shoved into some type of unified "country" despite all the lingering hostility. We live in interesting times unfortunately.

Good moring guys - hope all who got hit by the latest winter event are safe and no damages.

All the best to you that things work out for you and your family

Gosh, I didn't even think about that. Hopefully the strife won't cross the border.

Happy Tuesday Gentlemen!:wave2:

Had to go in and visit another one of DD teachers today.:headache: That girl is going to be the death of me. She has decided that only 50-64% of school is worth paying attention to and passing in homework is optional even though it is completed on time. :faint: This is 3 of 4 teachers at this point. Who wants to bet I have to sit down with the last one in the coming weeks.:lmao::lmao: I think she is smarter than they are. Has all the ability and smarts to cruise through elementary school, just can't be bothered. Gotta love her. It will be done her way, period.

And thank goodness that it did!

Lunch soon? I think it's my turn to treat! :thumbsup2

Absolutely! Let me know your schedule. I am pretty open for the next couple of weeks. A lot of paperwork and catching up to do in the office.

We enjoyed a sunny 84 F day on Saturday; only to be followed by ice, sleet and temperatures in the teens on Sunday. The kids' schools were closed today, but DW and I both made it to work with no issues. I assume it was probably closed more for liability - the sidewalks had a lot of ice on them, but the roads didn't.

I am looking forward to my business trip to The World on March 17-21. I have a feeling there won't be any sleet or ice down there. Staying at the Yacht Club! A first for me.

I saw the ice line on the weather last night. Still very kind on those Canadians sharing the arctic temps this year. Really guys, that's enough we get it.

Congrats on the trip. We'll be there in August begging for some ice in the 100 degree temps.

You guys were just jealous of our kids being in school till the end of June, weren't ya..? :rotfl2:

:rotfl2::rotfl2::lmao::lmao: Any additional days for us means no April vacation. June 25th release and no later.

Hey David.:wave2: I don't think any of us even considered how close it was. Prayers that it gets resolved or at least doesn't effect you guys.

It was a multiple choice question/answer.

A) Slip, slap, slop.
B) Slap, slop, slip.
C) Slop, slip, slap.
D) Dad gets mad, sends school personnel an email, & throws test in trash.

KY Public School Education at its finest.

I must be dumb... I have no idea what they are even asking.

Over the years, it seems that my minivan has received something of a cult following around here. There were rumors of it being fueled by everything from a Mr. Fusion to a custom methane gas-powered rocket engine. There have been claims that it's acceleration rivaled that of attack aircraft launching off the deck of the USS Carl Vinson. I even recall reading that someone's cousin's best friend's post man heard from his daughter's pre-school teacher that it had supersonic abilities and set several land speed records. The wildest one, of course, was that it was not of materials found on this planet.

Well, I will neither confirm nor deny any of those rumors. I will however, tell you that it's mothership came last week, beckoning it home. At DW's insistence, It has been replaced with a Toyota Highlander.

Now, where'd I put my tools and those old blueprints....

Slip-Slop-Slap is the iconic and internationally recognised sun protection campaign prominent in Australia during the 1980s. Launched by Cancer Council Victoria in 1981,[1] the Slip! Slop! Slap! campaign features a singing, dancing Sid Seagull encouraging people to reduce sun exposure and protect themselves against an increased risk of skin cancer.[2] Sid had Australians slipping on long sleeved clothing, slopping on sunscreen and slapping on a hat. This successful program was funded by public donations.

Rather silly, but it was meant to address a serious issue. Skin cancer is becoming more common amongst those of us that remembered playing outside when we were young. The youth of today will probably have to deal with carpal tunnel, gamer's thumb, and hemorrhoids.

I don't have to worry about this with DS as he doesn't want to go outside (if he didn't look like me, SWMBO would have some explaining to do), but DD loves being outside so she has already been told to use common sense and not get sunburned excessively.

From what I have heard my bet is on the Highlander ending up with a custom methane gas powered engine. :lmao:

Two facts.
Skin cancer is serious issue.
I was 7 years old at the time of this campaign.

I still don't think the question belongs as a part of school curriculum, certainly not a graded test question.

I would certainly agree it should be part of a graded test, but as part of the kids health curriculum it has a place. We try to incorporate sun safety into all our field day programs. :beach:

and you were 7?! Kids.... :sad2: :lmao:

I need my old man smiley but can't find it now. You start to misplace things when you get older so I shouldn't be surprised.

Apparently Superman wanted his ship back......

And there I was thinking it was powered with a flux capacitor.:confused3:scratchin

Silly me. Congrats on the new set op wheels.:drive:

Luckily I was able to outrace the storm and arrived in Miami around noon. On the way up I drove 1,300 miles without stoping except for short cat naps in the car. On the way back it was around 1,000 miles before I stopped in Daytona. The Holiday Inn had a convention of Terminix people and it was the start of Bike Week. Interesting night at the bar. A gathering of paunchy, middle aged, white guys, half in green polo shirts and kaki pants, the other half in leather jackets. Interesting and very different conversations.

The kid flies home late Thursday and I am trying to set up an appointment with a specialist for Friday. They are sure her issues are neurological in nature and one of the tests will be a spinal tap. Tough week and I am beat. Decided to make meatloaf and roasted potatoes for dinner tonight. Probably only the second home cooked meal I had in three weeks.

Continued prayers for the Pirate Princess.
