Haven't posted here in a while, but I'm in need of some Pixie Dust.

I've known about this for about three weeks now, but yesterday I got the official email: my company will not be renewing my contract near the end of October. They just don't have enough programs to justify having a full-time native English speaker. They will, however, keep me to teach classes on a part-time basis (maybe 8 hours a week for most weeks, possibly as little as 4). On the plus side, since I worked for POSCO Research Institute for two years, that's a great thing to have on a resume. On the negative side, since we've been planning our trip to the States for December, and have already bought the tickets and what not, it's making finding a full-time job (that will allow me to take a three week vacation after only about a month of working with them) difficult. Probably wouldn't be able to start anything till the new year.

We have another year left on our housing contract, so we'll be staying in Pohang at least until next summer or so. Then, we plan on moving to the States (we're tired of dealing with one-year contracts and moving all the time). We're going to spend most of our trip in December scoping out neighborhoods and suburbs of Chicago. Any advice would be very welcome. (To give you guys an idea of what we're looking for, we'd like to be in a nice neighborhood with nice schooling, etc., relatively close to Korean communites/other families, and not too expensive {all we can afford is 100k or under}). Also, any potential job leads would be nice (preferably dealing with international relations, perhaps at a university [but not teaching, I don't have a teaching degree]).

I didn't put this in the rant section, because I'm not at all angry with the company, I completely understand their viewpoint (plus, they want me to keep working with them, even if it's just a limited basis). We just have a lot of stress these days due to the situation.

Good luck. Pixie dust coming your way. DisdadIL is from Chicago. He might be a resource for the Chicago area. pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:

$250+ dollars later I am back on the road. Tire had not one, not two, but three nails in it. Replaced the two back tires, had the oil changed and some preventative beverly. Car is ready to go to the KEYS on Thursday for a long weekend.

Hmmmm I think someone has it out for you

Bummer, but at least you have some details and a plan. Good luck. I hope things work out for you and your family.

$250+ dollars later I am back on the road. Tire had not one, not two, but three nails in it. Replaced the two back tires, had the oil changed and some preventative beverly. Car is ready to go to the KEYS on Thursday for a long weekend.

I could see a lot of uses for preventative Beverly. Bug problem in your yard? Spray some preventative Beverly. Don't like your daughter's boyfriend? Slip him some preventative Beverly.

Casey: Good luck on the neighborhood search in Chicago. There are a number of good locations, but Korea Town (Albany Park neighborhood) would most likely be your best bet. Also near by are both North Park University and Northeastern Illinois University. Not sure what the job prospects would be there, but given the location there might be a good synergy for you.

Sorry you have that added stress to deal with, Casey. I don't know anything about the Chicago area (other than where you can spend 2 hours waiting for pizza), but I pray that you'll be able to find a good landing spot.

touche there nemesissis. BTW, did Doc and Aaron ever tell you about the nice meal we shared? It can be done. Unfortunately for Barry he got caught in the crossfire.

I hate unexpected expenses

Not sure Rob; have you tried to cross the border lately?
:rotfl2:

Not since 2000 so there just might be something to it. :rolleyes1

That’s rough. May it ultimately work out in your favor.
We’ll all be keeping you in mind.

:lmao:

Preventive Beverly may not be enough for the boyfriend problem.
There you may need to resort to Preventive Tofu.

Sorry to hear, katoot. Keep your head up.

Preventative Beverley itself is against the Geneva Convention.

Cheers,
Indy

Of course I heard about it, but I chose to ignore it in favor of yet another whack at the dead horse.:thumbsup2

Isn't that a violation of the Geneva Convention?

What he said.

Preventative Beverley itself is against the Geneva Convention.

Spoilsport.

Time to call it a day, at least it was an interesting one. Got to talk to someone from the UK MOD and a couple of Green Berets. Sometimes this job can be interesting, but it has been a very long time since i got to blow something up..

I'm pretty sure the Geneva Conventions do not apply to boys who date one's daughter.

It's a man law.

Or at least it should be.

Ok, not that I disagree with this or any of the Manlaws, but it is almost too easy to pass a Manlaw. Shouldn't there be some big cluster involved in establishing a new Manlaw, or do I just come to expect that sort of thing since our government can't decide what kind of toilet paper to buy for the White House without a big argument and stalemate from Congress??? :confused3 :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl:

Page One Updated, Sirs!

To paraphrase:

The use of Preventive Tofu… has been approved.

I'm the only "big cluster" we need, Andy! :lmao:
