Been a heck of a day. A lot of little things that all got under my skin. I yelled at my son a few times. Snapped at my daughter once when she cried over something I thought was insignificant. Not winning any parental awards today.

For dinner, my wife wanted Japanese takeout. So I call in the order and the last thing on the list is a children's hibachi meal. The woman on the phone tells me, "I'm sorry, the children's menu is for dine-in only." In the mood I was in, it got ugly fast.

I just don't understand why I can't get something offered on the menu because I am not staying to eat it there. So I had to pay $7 more for the adult version. I wanted to hang up and order from someplace else, but it's the only place around and both DW and DD had their minds set on it.:

I have days where I wouldn't win any parenting prizes - those are called weekdays. We survived our parenting, hope that we are better at parenting, and hope our kids will do better one day as well.

I've had that happen, I tell them I'm uncomfortable giving that kind of info over the phone, if it's a credit card they may then ask for the last 4 digits or ask a security question that a lot of banks ask when you open a account that would identify you, like Mother's maiden name or First pet's name etc.

I do think if you call them you may have to give info asked since they don't know who they are talking to, but if they call you (usually I don't answer any 800 #'s ) I hesitate on giving out info, besides if it's something important they will send out a letter:confused3

I don't answer the phone for any of those calls. More often, if I don't recognize the number, then I let the call go to voice mail and if they leave a message, then I'll call back.

Morning Guys,

taking in some U13 basketball today, even with DS away the pull is strong to spend the weekend at youth sports. :rotfl2:

Actually my nephew is playing and there is a game between the two local teams that tend to get a bit chippy, in the stands! Want to keep an eye on some things just in case.

Later tonight DW and I are heading to a concert. It's good to be child free for a bit.

Morning Guys! You all were chatty yesterday. Congrats to those deserving etc.

Family left for the "vacation":headache: house at 9:21 so the wine was in the fridge by 9:30. Going to be a rough summer though. My brother usually gives me a 3 liter bottle but it was just 1.5 liters this year. I'll have to pace myself.

I now have about 2 months to get the chaos they create back into some sense of order. They were all under notice that if I was cleaning up after them they may not find everything here when they get back so it looks like I get to simplify everyone's lives for them.

Bad news/good news... I didn't get the grant I applied for. Bad because no $$$ and I spent about 160 hours working on it without anything to show. Good because I don't have time to do my current responsibilities much less any new ones.

.

Sorry to hear about the grant. As for the wine, my solution would be to buy more alcohol.

Anyone have any idea where I can find audio clips of ride music? Going to try my hand at creating a vacation video for the upcoming trip and would like to incorporate some. I here it on a lot of the podcasts that I listen to but to sure if its available or if these people just record it for themselves while at the parks.

Afternoon....nice quick trip over the border. Stocked up on groceries and a few odds and sods. Going to head out to FIL's to watch some movies and let the kids terrorize him for a while :rotfl2:

At least there was a bit of a plus to losing the grant, but the thought you did the work for naught kind of sucks.

D-cot.com. I was able to use realplayer on the PC to save the songs and then transfer to mobile device.

You've piqued my interest. Still building up a library for the car's iPod. There ate a couple of tracks there that would fit in nicely.

Here's a funny Credit Card story - I was on the phone with someone and the call waiting beep came on, so I answered it, it was a credit card company trying to sell me insurance in case I died it would cover the balance, after telling them I don't want it they keep it up, saying the family would not have to worry about paying it off, basically all they were worried about is that they get paid ( insurance company would cover it), I told the lady on the phone "When I die I want it to be a sad day for EVERYBODY:sad::rotfl: She just didn't know what to say after that:thumbsup2

One of my favorite things to do to a telamarketer that totally catches them off guard is I answer the phone and say - Congratulations your our 10th caller, what's your name and where you calling from (some hang up, some will answer) than I say if you can name our song of the day you win $1000, if they give a answer, I say I'm sorry it was ------- better luck next time and then hang up:lmao:, I have to think that some of these people actually tell someone that they had a chance to win $1000:confused3:rotfl2: It seems to work since they usually don't call back:thumbsup2

Got back to the house after working all day and had a present from my neighbor. Beer. He must have thought I needed to celebrate or drown my sorrows since I'm on my own for a bit.

Beer: The gift that keeps on giving

Had a nice visit yesterday. Went to a friends, grilled, drank beer (Landshark), and played corn-hole.

Revenge of the telemarketers by comedian Tom Mabe. He would record the conversations and made a comedy CD our of them. I think you can google some of is stuff. My favorite one is where he tells the telemarketer that he called a murder scene, and now he is a suspect and will have to get that local police department to do a background check.

You have some nice neighbors.

What a good neighbour!

Morning.

Watching the Monaco GP and drinking some coffee this morning. I think next year I will book one of the hotel rooms overlooking the track. :lmao:

:thumbsup2 - I like to do things like that to...

Here's a good one to try next time. If you know it's a telemarketer, answer the phone like this:

You: Hello, is Fred there?
Them: Ummmm, no
You: Oh, I am sorry I think you have the wrong number then.
Then hang up... :rotfl2:

If they call back, then answer like so

You: Hello, is Fred there?
Them: No
You: Then why do you keep calling me?
Then hang up... :rotfl2:

As for the radio contest... I used to have my Answering Machine with almost that exact message, it went like this:

Congratulations, you are caller number 10 and the winner of our $1,000,000 grand prize. All you have to do is wait for the beep and leave your name, number, and answer our simple skill testing question. And the question is 3 + .... [BEEP]

I got a couple of priceless reactions... :rotfl2:

Happy Birthday MIDDLEPAT!!!

I've heard that one, it is hillarious. I think he has another where a local carpet cleaning company calls him so he asks if they are able to get a lot of blood out of a carpet. The bit says he was so convincing the police showed up at his door. :rotfl2:
