I play my 6 numbers on the mega million for $1. I definitely do not play twice a week, and sometimes play only once a month. I know the probability and agree that it is a waste of money. So, $20 a year is not a and vice. I spend more than that at the liquor store on one trip.

:rotfl2::rotfl2: I'm with you. If I spent as much on lottery tickets as we do at the liquor store we probably would have won by now.:thumbsup2

It wasn't so much that it's a waste of money. My FIL plays everyday, daily numbers, scratch tickets, weekly drawings....and he wins a lot considering. It is my nature that prevents me form feeling comfortable doing it. We grew up with very little as kids, I guess that's why I have a hard time separating myself from my money (Disney excluded apparently:lmao::lmao:) as an adult. Of course the wife and kids do a great job of spending it so I don't have to.

I didn't grow up wanting, but was not wealthy. I never had any debt, but charged everything, never budgeted, and never invested. I found the Dave Ramsey stuff after we got married, and after we cleaned up the mess, I realized I had missed that first 10 years of investing. Still, from age 30 on, have kept to that investment strategy and done well. We do our budget every year, and then adjust it throughout the year for un-budgeted things, like a transmission. DW thinks to just use the emergency fund, which is what it is for. My contention is that we can adjust the budget and not use the emergency fund. But, none of hers or the kids spending categories are even available for consideration. Fortunately, I pad the budget in areas because I know her spending habits.

She doesn't consider VGF DVC points as an emergency. :lmao:

Working on some shirts for DW and I to wear in August when we celebrate 13 years of marriage by riding ToT 13 times.
What do you think? Ideas/suggestions/changes?*

AnniversaryShirt.jpg

*It really doesn't matter what you think. As long as DW likes it, that's all that counts.

Well done all knowing and pwerful Rafiki :thumbsup2

Well, what I would do...... Great idea. Are you all going to do a picture after each time you ride it, holding up fingers for a countdown? Or, do you have a more elaborate system planned?

We bought in 2008, when oldest was in first grade, so I guess it was a little easier for us to make that jump. Our house will be paid off around the same time as oldest enters college, and my parents deposited the amount for 2 school years for each dd in our state pre-paid tuition program. I probably wouldn't have invested that money there, but it wasn't my decision or money. I'm still hoping to get us all to Florida during their college years so that maybe they will live in Florida, which will help convince DW not to continue to live here in KY with her parents.

We might be neighbors by then :rotfl2:

Why not split it? Start with the resale contract you can afford at the resort you want to stay. Then, once a member, you have the option to buy direct at any DVC resort of your choice for whatever amount in 25 point increments. Thus, instead of purchasing a 150 point contract direct from Disney, you start with a resale contract, and then could add three 50 point contracts direct over the years, and even sell the original resale contract to buy more direct ones.

It was an easy decision for us. After three consecutive years of going to Disney and staying in Value resorts, we stayed at CBR the 4th consecutive year. So, not only did we realize that we were just going to go every year, but we also loved the upgrade of the moderate over the value resort. Staying at the Boardwalk and BLT just put our vacations in a whole new level of magic. We are the ones, like many, who keep asking why we didn't join DVC sooner.

So if I bought resale at AKL (150 pts) and then bought 25 points at say BLT, could I use all 175 points in the 11 month window for BLT?

::yes::::yes::

18 years for us this coming July

We were 18 years this month and started dating 20 years ago. I told her if she can make another 8 years I will have been with her as long as not so I might as well keep her at that point. :duck:

Nope. You can only use points from a home resort at 11 months. You can book with all 175 points at 7 months.

Neighbors are goods. Barry said it right. You can use your 150 at the 11 month window at AKV and you can use your 25 points at BLT at the 11 month window. You could use both combined at the 7 month window for any resort. What many do, with those smaller contracts, is go every 3 years (bank,UY, borrow) and have 75 at BLT to book at the 11 month window. Then, if you wanted a longer vacation, add in the AKV points afterwards af AKV afterwards. Then, at the 7 month mark, see if there are any days you can cancel AKV and book at BLT. IF BLT was all booked, then you could still stay the 75 points work at BLT, and then move over for additional days at AKV. While Disney will move your bags for you, you still have to pack them and unpack them.

20 years for us this coming Decmeber - told DW 20th is red meat (or bacon) and liquor not diamonds or anything like that. Like that's really gonna work ;)

You get her a $200 pair of diamond earrings. She gets you $200 worth of beef, bacon, and beer. I like that as a starting point for negotiations.

That's the attitude. We threaten to divorce each other from time to time, with the biggest threat being the other parent gets stuck with custody of the children. The real story is "September - 13 years of marriage and are too tired to get a divorce". How's that sound for a t-shirt? :lmao:

Is that a comment or a question?

Yes, we check into Boardwalk villas that day. Not sure about parks or other plans. For sure DHS on the 5th and MK on the 6th.

Why? What do you have in mind?

The 4th is Hunter's Birthday was going to have a little party at Capt. Cooks around 7pm, Dole Whips all around:woohoo:

A good day so far. Missed EMH at the Studios but we were able to do what we wanted with the exception of Toy Story. Nice lunch at Brown Derby and we are now relaxing in the room. Not sure what we are going to do tonight. Maybe MK.

A few pics...

One for Dave. Pretty Spartan.

Yesterday's meet up with Brian at Club Cool. He posted on FB a video of his girls trying Bev for the first time. Funny stuff.

Also yesterday, Flower and Garden topiaries are now blocked off

Monsters University

Wanted to Gibbs slap this guy. Plus it took him forever to take the picture

The Pirate Princess' lunch today. A noodle bowl with coconut encrusted Tofu. Yum.

I had the corn chowder and the Cobb's salad (appetizer size). Nice lunch.

Tried something new. Animation Academy.

Getting ready to start

As you can see, I have tremendous artistic talent. This of course is Woody. Instead of drawing straight lines as instructed, I used an alternative method of connecting smaller lines together. Revolutionary technique. Stopped about half way through because I didn't want to make everyone else jealous. Going to include it with my resume for the new head of Pixar. The kid's turned out really well but she won't let me post it. You how temperamental artists can be.

Back at the room, it was feeding time

An Okapi hanging out

Lots of animals out by us. Here are two Okapi, three Ankole cattle, and four Impalas. The three "Tommie's" were out of the picture. Thank you to the CM at check in that granted us the upgrade.

Having a great time. Tomorrow is a TO from the parks. Probably Downtown Disney and then to Jambo House for the Boma/Jiko afternoon tour. A few of us are going to be in the MK for the 24 hour thing. Hoping for a few meet ups.

Like it. With the addition of Mark's proofreading. I could say that I caught it but then my pants would be on fire.

My conclusion is that DVC is NOT a good investment and it does NOT save me any money. I just make more trips there and spend more $. DVC allows me to stay in nicer resorts that I otherwise wouldn't have, and it let me take more vacations there. And, i can get a 1 BR with those points every other year, which is even more awesome. Still, the final cost determination included that we vacation there every year and that there were no financing charges. With a smaller contract, larger room size or going every other year, those time frames may be different.

I agree with you about the investment part. The biggest point in favor is having it would provide more motivation to taking that annual family vacation and spending time some place we all enjoy. I can't count how many times we go through the year and then think back and wish we had gone here or there. With a destination already in the picture, we would always take at least that one.

Agree that DVC is not a financial investment. Also agree with Norm that it is an investment in family time. While not maybe the smartest money spent for my financial future, it was one of the best purchases I have made.

Without DVC, I could not afford the number of vacations taken over the years and stay in the same level of accommodations. As an example, I would not have sprung for a Grand Villa for DD's Sweet Sixteen weekend with her friends or a 1BR at Aluani.

I thought I recognized the bathroom! I agree that if we buy DVC it is an investment in family time. Since we will be a family of eight I won't be able to afford two rooms and meals in the parks everyday. Staying at a DVC would allow us to be in one room and eat some of our meals there.

I agree with the prevailing DVC argument. We bought in knowing it wasn't a good financial investment, but it was a great investment in our vacation time. We're happy with the purchase so far.

Well, don't like that you missed TSM, but it is still the one that everyone runs for at DHS. I think the Star Tours is better, but we still plan to do TSM at least once. DW will not go on ToT anymore, but we all go on the RNRC. Is your dd now a vegetarian? Did I see tofu? Is tofu allowed on these threads? Anyway, have fun at the 24 hour day.

Evening guys.... Been busy today, helped dad unload a truck of stuff, and of course, the usual fun here at work. We didn't go on strike, but a couple of workers here sure have me fooled.

Anniversary wise, I'll be 13 years in October.

CJ, pics looked good, I need to go on my laptop when I get home and have a better look.
