DIS Dads DDC XXIX: We’re Over 750 Dads, With A Disney Problem!

Morning gentlemen.

Had a hot and wonderful day at the zoo. Kids walked over three miles. Much of it outside in 90 degree heat. We had no melt downs or other issues. DD was very close to a melt down. We stopped all the kids in the nearest shade and made them sit on the curb and drink water. Worked like a charm. Only downside is I found out the hard way the new camera will not take pictures when the battery drops below 20%. I missed the red tail hawk flying five feet overhead during the bird show.

Good morning gents! Be safe and enjoy the half way point of the week.

So, dd (11) tried out for local dance company yesterday and did not make the cut. I know nothing about dance, but the company includes high school girls who are older, more experienced, and physically stronger than my dd is, so I can understand that. She was sad, but I used it as an opportunity to encourage her to practice and train harder for tryouts next year.

However, two other girls that did make the dance company included one older girl from a wealthy family and one with a parent as an attorney. The problem is that both girls are in high school, maybe 5.5 feet tall at the most, and about 250 pounds.

I have nothing against fat people, because I am fat people. And, while I know nothing about dance, I do know I have not seen a 250 pound dancer at WDW, AGT, or anywhere else. I just cannot imagine that either girl is a better performer than my own daughter.

I had to bite my tongue not to say that there are times in this world when it doesn't matter how good you are or how much effort you put into it, you're just gonna get screwed by people with their own agenda. It is not about talent or ability, but who you know or who your friends are. Thanks for reading.

Sorry to her that she has to deal with this kind of stuff as a kid. Good to hear she is gonna try again nest year and hopefully the resilience of youth will overcome this.

Norm, sorry about your DD. Maybe you should take David up on his offer. Although it seems kind of weird for him to do something like that for his nemesis instead of to his nemesis.

Sounds like a good outing; excellent practice for Florida in August.
Hate you missed a potentially great shot, but now you know the limitations.

My RB and QB were a disappointment early last year in addition to losing my WR2 early in the year. They came on when it counted though!
