Tuesday afternoon ownage.

I'm hoping for the best...I'll check it out in DTD. I'd like to grab a few pics with my phine anyways. Besides if I have 200 texts, only DW and I really text each other, only will needthat of we separate at any point, I can spare a handfull.

...

We have that unlimited text. I get the bill and i have very few texts. DW text messages are exploding the page. Women even text more.

On 4 Oct, we begin our drive from North West New Jersey to the Wonderful World of Disney. ? Thanks.

Can't help with the drive, but we will be at WDW that week. Of course, that may be a plan to extend the drive longer. :lmao:

Drinking and planning a Disney vacation are not good partners.:rotfl2::lmao:
.

Wrong. Drinking goes well with most everything.

Planning to attend MVMCP during your stay?

Just noticed you had asked this question lol

We did it last year and it just didn't do it for us. :(

I think we went a little too late (Dec 14) and the crowds were really starting to build up so there was A LOT of people. I talked it over with my wife and we decided to opt out this year. Naturally those are the most recommended days to tour MK so I'm not sure how I'll feel getting booted out every time at 7. But there is still less than 4 months left and who knows what I'll decide if I start drinking' those beers again. :p

If guys down there are trying to sell it for $5/dozen, I'm going to start shipping sweet corn to KY and selling it for $4. :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:
You can find it for a couple of bucks around here.

"Trying to sell it" is the key. I won't pay over 30 cents an ear.

...
It also needs more cowbell.
:rotfl2::rotfl2:

The timing is off a might in the second act and it needs more cow bell.

You can never have enough cowbell.

...That stinks. The weather just doesn't want to cooperate does it? Prayers for mother nature to start cooperating. Up here the corn is around 50 cents an ear. We usually by half a dozen a day when we can get it farm fresh, which is about last week of July through early September. Anxiously awaiting apple season. Love heading to the farm for cider donuts, fresh apples and all the fall bounty has to offer. Good luck with the pumpkins. We need those for carving.:thumbsup2
...
There are actually a couple of farms that grow full corn fields and never harvest. Instead, they carve out the corn mazes and sell tickets. I am guessing from how busy it is around Halloween they make a lot more from that than they do selling the corn. Last year it was $8-10 for a ticket and then they had special "haunted" nights on Friday and Saturday that were $12-15. We tried to figure it out last year and guessed on a Saturday the the take would be around $50K with day/night combined just for that day:scratchin. Always a line from 10 in the morning until close.
....

Agritainment. That is where the money is in agriculture.

The corn is running a few weeks behind here. The corn stands are just popping up. They should have been up last week of July. They are selling it for between $5-6/a dozen. The guy we go to is $7 a "dozen." His dozen is how many they can stuff in a brown grocery bag, usually around 18-20.

That would be about $4.50 a dozen based on the today's exchange rate. Higher than I would pay but better than the price they are trying to charge here.

...
Send some up here. $6 a dozen here at the farm we go to. It's really good though. Pretty sure it's the sugar and butter corn we get. Not sure if that's a specific type or if it's how it's cooked that makes it sugar and butter corn.

Well, if you're eating it and it tastes sweet, you're eating what I call sweet corn. Sugar and butter corn must be a regional term??? :confused3 I've never heard it called that before.

The company that sells us our field corn always gives us a some sweet corn to put out every year. We always plant a few acres, but not a whole lot. We just have it for our own use and to give some to friends and family. We don't even mess with trying to sell it because there are so many other people doing it that there just isn't much money in it to make it worthwhile unless you'd go large scale and produce a lot of sweet corn to sell to grocery stores, etc. And sweet corn just takes a lot of extra management and work.

My favorite variety is called Ambrosia ...

Lots of regional varieties. In eastern KY they prefer white corn (to go with the white lightning they distill). I've been trying to get the growers to consider some of the Roundup Ready varieties to help with their weed management issues but they are concerned about market acceptance.

Fry the auditors and spend the day with the fish.

:yay:

Wonder what a cheap throw away/burner would cost you?

A cheap tracfone would be the way to go. You can get them at Wal*Mart for less than $20. Per minute charge is usually around 8 or 9 cents so expensive that way but if you only use it for a short period of time it isn't bad.

... I see two options, one is to cut east at RT64 and then RT95 at Richmond. The other is to continue on 81 until RT77 and cut down through
Winston Salem and Greensboro to pick up 95 further south. Looking at the map, Winston Salem et al, looks pretty convoluted. Anyone been down those ways and can offer some insight? Thanks.

Now you’re getting into my neck of the woods. The Richmond option is pretty simple. If however you chose to follow I-81 completely through the Shenandoah Valley down to I-77 then I’d advise you to stay in I-77 all the way to its terminus at I-26 in Columbia SC. Then just follow “26-East” for about 90 miles and it meets I-95. It's more of a straight line that way. If you try to use parts of I-73/74 or I-40 to get over to I-95 in NC you’ll be doing a lot more east/west traveling.

I prefer 81 over 95 but both are more traffic than I like.

...Not much going on here. Last couple of weeks before DD starts back at school and DW goes back to work. I need to get the smaller DD moved into the bedroom with her sister so that I can get the crib set up. Only a couple more months!

Sleep while you have the chance.

...Wrong. Drinking goes well with most everything.

Except the thread that shall not be named.:rolleyes1

I like that type of dozen counting, preferably in donuts.

Genius. Where's the tag fairy!

Looking to be a hitman for an income supplement? :lmao:
I know's for Brent, but I wanted to see if you were paying attention.

How is the drive from Austin to Orlando? I've toyed around with the idea of driving for our January 2015 trip and the great & all-knowing Google says it'd be ~14 hours.

Don't question the all powerful Google. You'll end up on a MetaData server watch group.

Sounds like we'll have ample opportunities for DISDad meets :thumbsup2 We scored a 2 bedroom deluxe this time around. We thought the 1 bedroom was big when we stayed in the spring. Can't wait to see the 2 bd room. Planning to attend MVMCP during your stay?

Which resort did you get? That space is great to have.

Sadly, no dues ever leave Norm's mailbox. He keeps blaming Stitch, but I think he just uses the dues to stock up for the winter.

If only .....

Tuesday. Not as bad as Monday but still needs more coffee to be bearable.

Too bad for coffee. Switch to beer.

Good morning gents! Seeing all these trip plans is a nice way to start the day. We are counting down til our 7 month booking window for March trip - 9 days til we can book. Resort list in order of priority is BLT, BWV, BCV, WL. We are struggling with DD not being able to make this trip with us due to different spring break and wanting to do the college beach trip on her break. Have a good day Dads.

9 more years before I think of that, although, if dd continues in sports, we will all have to adjust our usual fall break.

Of course it is subject to change, but here is what we decided over the weekend.

8/21 Arrival day and most likely MK in the evening for wishes
8/22 EPCOT...lunch at Via Napoli, Dinner at Chefs de France (DS is taking French in school)
8/23 AK, breakfast at Tusker (dad meet), Lunch at Flame Tree, dinner at Whispering Canyon.
8/24 Most likely MK for the day, late night ressie at BOG 9PM(going to try to get in a little early)
8/25 Happy BD to me! Discovery Cove, Dolphin swim and hotel/DTD in the evening.
8/26 Open day. Probably either MK or maybe to SeaWorld.
8/27 HS day, lunch at Sci-Fi
8/28 Open to whatever we missed or want to do again. Flight home at 6PM.
.

Looks good. You taking me along on this trip?

I can't plan things as well as Ron can, just a couple of bullet points for the day and see what happens.

No one can plan like Ron. He is Shiite Commando.

Anyways. On a bad/sad note, I had talked about doing an adults only trip to the world for our 10th next april (or around that time). Well with the economy, and work getting slim and hours and shifts being cut I made the sad decision there will not be a disney trip next year. We have too many possibilities that could happen that will not allow us to go.

I tried to get DW to take a weekend trip for our 10th, but it didn't happen. We ended up spending the night in a Holiday Inn.

Speaking of bacon (because it's always being spoken of), I got to try bacon jerky earlier in the summer, probably sometime in March. It's as good as it sounds. :cloud9:

‘Morning all…
Interesting week down this way. We’re having some work done on the house and it’s tore all to heck. On top of that we trying to get everything sorted and packed up to haul my boy off to college in two more days. DW is not liking the notion of losing her baby and the general disaster that is now about three quarters of the house ain’t helping matters. On the up side, once we get back from throwing the boy out on his own, the ceiling and wall work should also be done and then I get to start painting…

yippee? :crazy2:

Congrats to Max and can totally relate as our first, DD is off to college as well. We head out next Wednesday for move in on Thursday. Due to UTC on campus living being apartments, we have tons of crap building up. From dishes to lamps to garbage cans, etc :crazy2: Even DS is a bit sad about big sister heading out. I think it is more because he is stuck with mom and dad solo though :rotfl:

Good luck guys. And to the kids. Interesting time for the whole family. Enjoy it and take pictures.

What a difference a year makes. Last year I was getting ready to pack a rental to the gills to drive up to New Jersey. This year, she will be flying up with two bags and one box to be shipped.

About half the stuff we eventually drove up there

The third time is the charm. Just a reminder, to enjoy the journey. As us with older kids will attest (see above), they grow up fast.

Except the thread that shall not be named.:rolleyes1

Or not forgotten. Good one.

On another note one year ago today the Curiosity Rover landed on the moon. I am a space nut so I spent the night watching the live broadcast. Funny article on what the purchase price of rover might be worth after one year of use.

I've been away from the boards for a while (stupid "life" getting in the way).

I'm getting back into the club because i'm going to be planning a trip in May (yay!)

anyway, is anyone working on any trip reports they feel like posting so I can read? I'm pretty lazy, and I'm not sure I'll go looking for them.

but I have an iPad now, so I can read trip reports before bedtime.

(trip reports are better than DVR's Days of our Lives)

thanks dads!

How did they take moving into the same room? I know mine hated it when we downsized to a 2 bedroom for a year.
Do you know yet are you having another DD or did you luck out with a DS this time?

I remember that. I stayed up all night watching the live feed waiting on the guy with the crazy Mohawk to react. Lol.

.

At the grocery store here they are around $0.50 an ear while during the local harvest (mid June) then the bump it to $0.75 when they start bringing on the plains corn.
We do luck out on fresh fruit and "garden" veggies, HEB sources them out of the Rio Grande valley and they have year round harvest so we get it fresh and cheap.

We did it back in 2010 and for us once was enough. Ate all the free cookies and hot chocolate are bellies could hold and rode all the rides. Our particular night was low crowds so it was worth it. It was also our travel day so it beat spending another day for tickets.

Still can't believe the crowd calculator shows 1's and 2's for our week! :cool1::cool1:

Which calculator is that??

I go by what Josh says and he has the parks at 4 during the weekdays and the weekends are 6-7's.

Jim, thanks for pointing out about Spaceship Earth.... Looks like we'll addit to the list of attractions we're going to miss. :headache: It closes our first day at Epcot, re-opens a couple of days after our second one....So it'll be on our miss list with both Jungle Cruise and Muppet Vision 3D.

Was the roundup ready corn linked to food allergies?

Except the thread that shall not be named.:rolleyes1

I disagree. The thread went well on alcohol, it was the mods not taking the thread well. And, they probably weren't on alcohol.

An old dog can learn new tricks. Although, teaching a woman not to pack extra stuff is impossible.

We tried ours in one room together, but all they did was talk at night instead of sleep. Our grocery store corn stinks. We will get corn and fresh fruit from a local orchard. They are really good.
