Hello again, guys. I've seen some of you over on the boards at DISDads.com (GoofyDadDoug) and in the Facebook group, so I'm checking in here as well.

For those who haven't checked in over at DISDads in the past week or so, I'll share a bit about myself here as well.

My name is Doug, and I'm a 44 year old Disney geek from Virginia. My wife and I have 2 sons, ages 9 and 11 and we've been making trips to WDW since 2010. Although we've only had 3 full trips (and a single "adults" day mixed in there) I feel like we've been visiting for a lifetime as it simply feels like home. I'm usually either planning our next WDW trip, on a WDW trip, or convincing my wife that we need to start planning again! At all times, I'm browsing the latest information and looking deeper into the "World" as we know it. My wife is convinced that if my I.T. career ever dries up I'll have to try my hand at being a Disney travel agent as our friends and family usually call me with their WDW questions. I don't know it all, but I enjoy looking for the answers.

I'm glad to have found this group of dads, and I've enjoyed the chats and podcasts so far.

I'd like to 'make it official' and add my name to the list of dads - and see what number we're up to now, so if you would lay it on me.

Hope to see you guys here, there and at WDW in the near future.

Eric has a way more refined palate than mine. I'm more of a beer and bar food eater. I made the decision years ago that I wanted to try and eat at all the restaurants at WDW because I like the new experiences. Since the Quest for the Holy Grail was already filmed, I figured this quest was a good as any other.

I would really like to have a quest like that, but then I look at the prices on the menu's for the signatures and decide that I'd rather spend the money on other things.

Wow, one girl posts in here and this place gets all giddy and fills up 4 pages in a few hours... It's like middle school in here! :rotfl2:

Well DS is in his first year of middle school. He announced to us last night that there is a girl he likes and he managed to get her as a lab partner. He said he strategical sat near her in class knowing that partners were going to be picked yesterday. When the teacher announced that it was time to pick partners he immediately turned to her and said "I don't feel like moving so we should probably just be partners." Smooth move buddy.

We took our daughter to the orthodontist last week. After seeing what braces will cost, I think we're just going to tell people she's British.
DW works 3 days a week for an orthodontist. She doesn't necessarily like it, the pay isn't great and the only benefits offered are a 5% match on a 401K and free braces for employees and their families.

Needless to say, she isn't going anywhere for a few years. :rotfl2::rotfl:

:thumbsup2 Well played. He's smart beyond his years.

I get a short reprieve from my 11 hour days this week today to take oldest to orthodontist. Still get the 140 miles.

I didn't have a middle school (1-8), but there were Catholic School girls. I've enjoyed the pace of this thread. I guess it will change when the penguins or a Canadian returns ...

DS just finished his invisalign treatment. It worked really well and was actually much better than the whole braces process. He now needs to get a retainer for a while to make sure they don't move back. Next up......DD. It looks like braces for her. Not everyone can use the invisaligns, it depends on your teeth.

You didn't go to middle school!?!:scared1: Now that explains a lot.:lmao::lmao:

We took our daughter to the orthodontist last week. After seeing what braces will cost, I think we're just going to tell people she's British.

:rotfl2::lmao::rotfl2: Never thought of that one. DS teeth do look good and straight now.

:eek: Oh yeah... that could have been a major bummer! Glad to hear the foot is ok!

:lmao: I received an email from my dentist yesterday promoting their Invisiline treatments. They are giving away iPad 2's for those entering treatment before September. Then I looked at the cost... $5,000 for plastic retainers??? Really?? IDTS

The cost of Invisaligns vs. regular braces was a difference of $500 for us. We chose to spend the extra as DS really didn't want braces. Let me say that not having to go in to have the braces tightened, the pain it causes and trying to get the cement and discoloring off the the teeth after is really a better option. It was a little over $5K for 2 years of treatment with the invisaligns. This doctor gives a one price start to finish. We really like him and he does a great job. We went to another guy that charged us for the evaluation and quoted us almost $10K and all kind of other things DS didn't need. Glad we got a second opinion.

Everything is done on the CAD computer. They upload pictures of the teeth, adjust the position they want at the end and the software calculates all the sets of Invisaligns. They change them to a new set every week and they slowly adjust to the desired position. Definitely worth the extra $$ in my opinion.

I had braces for almost 3 years as a teenager, so I know what the process is like. Unfortunately, someone threw away my retainer when I was in the Navy and I was unable to get a new one sent to me at the time. So now my teeth have shifted. I cringe at the thought of spending another $5k to fix my teeth... but I may have to as it's really starting to affect my bite. Sigh. I guess it's better than $10k!!!

You don't happen to have a sewer or waterline running through your back yard do you? Otherwise maybe you have the next Cave in the Mounds in your back yard. I would think you could find a company to do some core drilling and see if there is a cave or something below. But I would also think that would be very costly.

No water or sewer. We have wells and septic and they are not in that spot. I have a suspicion that it is old trees/stumps from when the neighborhood was built, but no way to confirm. Looking at it and the house location it would make some sense. I would basically like to know if it will continue or not. I guess it's either fill it in or not at this point. Thanks.

Doing the Double Digit Dance!

:dancer::dancer:

Did I mention........27 days!!!:cool1::cool1::cool1:

OK, Can I get a show of hands of Dads who have DD's age 10/11/12? My GDD is 10 and will be 11 in Sept. I have a feeling there are a lot of Dads that will rise their hands. :lmao:

Here, Here! Princess Alexandra will turn 11 in October.

Welcome to the club! I see Randall has already given you your official number. Norm will be along to collect dues....Of course he never distributes them to the rest of us. Grab a chair and join on in!

And so it starts. DS is going into the 8th grade and has decided no girls for now. Sports and school are priorities. I immediately took him out and bought him a new baseball bat.:rotfl2::rotfl2:

A decent benefit considering the the costs can be pretty significant depending on what need to be done.

I had braces for almost 3 years as a teenager, so I know what the process is like. Or you could use the $5K for something else and just eat Dole Whips with bacon bits once you can't chew any more. :rolleyes1

Invisalign is fantastic! I always fought the idea of getting braces, and finally my mom talked me into it. I went to the same Ortho that DW now works for and he discussed Invisalign with us, but wasn't sure it would work for me. My bottom front teeth were pretty screwed up and crowded in, and I still have my wisdom teeth. He ended up going ahead and doing an Invisalign treatment for me and it worked out well. I wore Invisaligns for about 3 years (?) I think... pretty much during my college years. I still have retainers that I wear every night to hold them in place. Just clear plastic, just like the Invisaligns.

To me, it is definitely worth another $500 for the Invisalign. The only thing is, if you're going to spend the money on it, it takes responsibility to care for the Invisaligns, avoid losing them when eating, and make sure they're being worn properly at all times. Otherwise... just a waste of money.

Hi Doug!

:wave2::wave2:

Cutting grass in the middle of the day is fun:scared:

But since it's rained 9 out of the last 10 days I had to get it down before the tribe of pygmy warriors started chasing me to my car!!:eek:

I'm not much of a reader. After reading with three kids and three different books at bedtime, I usually don't want to read anything. Although I am reading a book right now called Daddy Dates. I didn't expect to like it but the guy has a lot of good ideas about parenting girls. I won't bother with a synopsis, just click on this to see it. You'd like it. http://www.amazon.com/Daddy-Dates-Daughters-Clueless-Confident/dp/1595553207

Well, I'm implementing the plan. Date #1 with daughter #1 is tonight. As soon as I get home I'll pick her up and off we go. Where? School-supply shopping, of course. Not too exciting, but this kid loves school so this is right up her alley.

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

I responded to the Mom and told her no member number, without a member.

:rotfl: That's funny. :rotfl:

On a completely related note, my daughter will be locked up from the age of 9 until she turns 40. Either that or we'll send her to Canada for that time period. Same thing.

Good one. We avoided the braces issue thankfully. The Dentist said she could use them but really didn't need them. It was enough for the kid to say NO!

Jim (and others who have daughters around his age) keep him away from her. Your son has smooth moves Ryan.

Sorry Paul but Fantasyland is in Orlando. You keep toying with that idea. Did not work for me and I would bet it will not work for you.
