It's tied to the princess half marathon which might be a little estrogen-y for this crowd, but a free trip to disney is a free trip to disney. You can enter everyday for free, but you might not want to let the app post to your Facebook wall. It's one thing to enter their contest, its another to let them post "you like Lady Speedstick" for all the world to see.

That is bad about the power. But I would be stressed about leaving the house with no power. All them electronics powering back up. I maybe would turn all the breakers off except the ones for the refrigerators and heater/ac and preset the heater/ac to being away settings.

Post Andrew, there were issues when power was restored. Some people had generators hooked to the main line and it would be a bad day for the guy restoring power. Also you don’t know if lines in the house were damaged so you need to turn the breakers off and unplug the electronics.

First time on the net since Sandy rolled through. We did pretty well, just lost the cap off a roof vent so i was up there at 430 am on Tuesday with plastic sheeting and duct tape. Wife now knows for sure what she suspected for 34 years. I am a touch crazy. Living off of generator, woodstove and gas grill but that's far better than lots of folks. Next Disney trip starts 28 Nov so that will help us unwind. Rethinking my plans to retire to central florida. Hurricanes suck very much big time.

Glad things are relatively OK. Hurricanes are not fun at all. But all things considered, I can’t beat living in S. Florida. Saw a picture from the dive operation I dive with in Key Largo and the ocean was flat. Beautiful day to dive. Unfortunately, I am stuck here.

Thanks. It's a corporate controller position for a vc-backed hi-tech company about 5 minutes from my house. The company and opportunity are what drove me to it, but the location is a nice bonus too!

Has anyone ever driven overnight to WDW? Our family is getting to the point where the prospect of saving $1000 in travel costs by driving instead of flying to The World is pretty attractive. But I don't want to burn a whole day of our vacation to do it. For my 12-hr drive, I'd need to leave home at about 8 pm the night before in order to get there at 8 or 9 am. Is that just stupid to drive overnight like that? I don't want to get up at 4 or 5 on the first day of a vacation and load everyone in to the family truckster just to spend most of the day on the road and just get there in time for dinner. No- I don't have a trip in the works. This is for the imaginary trip that I'm always working on. And I'd rather not stop at a hotel half way through. With that expense (we'd need two rooms) and hassle, I'd almost rather bite the bullet and fly.

Next week we have a trade show in Germany (which I avoided by sending my staff) so will be a little slower. What does your schedule look like for next week? Like it really matters if you give notice, but thought I would ask anyway.

Well between 8 pm and 8 am all I'd need to see is the road. Falling asleep at the wheel would be my only real concern. But if I knock off work a little early, take a nap and experiment with 5-hr energy drinks it could work out.

We've never driven over night but we usually drive once or twice per year. For us its only about a 10 hour drive though. We usually leave very early so that we arrive in orlando at lunch time or early afternoon. We usually spend that day at downtown disney and the outlets and then try and stay somewhere nearish to WDW that is really cheap. I'll get up the next morning at 6 head over to our on property hotel and pick up our kttw cards (Disney says you can pick up your kttw cards at 7 but I've never had an issue getting them earlier) so that we can make rope drop. I actually prefer driving to flying, but I fly all the time for work. DW on the other hand prefers flying, if it's a direct flight. Off property hotels can be cheap. On this past trip we spend a night in a 3 bedroom condo and it was only $99 a night.

I like driving because:
I'm cheap, and would rather spend the money on other stuff
Gives us a 1/2 day to do no park stuff without burning a park day
Means we can use 100% of our first day
Don't have to rent a car.
Can bring more stuff.
I don't have to go through MCO's rediculous security lines.

I am heading to Montreal for some meetings and a conference but I would have been happy to go to Germany for you.

So you leave at 2 am? When you stay off property your first night, you're still close to the action right? i guess we could do that and just pack a different bag for that one night in the temporary condo.

Adrenaline would probably take over. Plus I don't feel the need to be in a park every day. If I did, I'd be more comfortable staying offsite. The rest of the family could hit the pool while I head to the store for provisions. One night of good sleep and I'd be back in action.
