I'm assuming you mean renting the points for the week, rather than buying into DVC? If so, you're looking at 220-270 points for the week (assuming a 1 br), depending on resort and view. I think the average rate from a legit source is about $13/point, so you're looking at $2,900- $3500. That's decent compared to what you'd pay Disney for the same room.

I love our DVC membership, but we have 3 kids (13, 11, 10) who were getting big for one room. Membership is a big commitment, but if you're going every 1-2 years, and you are crowded in one room, it works out after about 7 trips (at least it did for us). Your deed is for 50 years, and is transferrable on your death to your heirs.

Not sure which properties are still selling now, but lots of resorts are available on resale. You buy at a particular resort, but you can use your points at any resort (the only advantage is that you can book your home resort 11 months ahead, the other resorts 7 months ahead).

The costs of the points keep going up. If you'd like to try one out, you can "rent" points (purchase one vacations worth of points) from one person. Might be the way to go. I also found the DVC threads here and the DVC presentation at WDW very helpful. But beware of flaming and trolls on line. The Dis Dad's threads are pretty much the only place on the web where you can have a civil conversation about DVC

Buying or renting? Studio or 1 BR? How many trips a year? Which resort? There is also some extra form or something else you will need to do when buying DVC when you are in foreign country.

We are looking at renting the points not buying in, not ready for the purchase yet. There is only the three of us so we would be looking at a studio or 1 bedroom.

I'd love a Disney referral, but resale is the only way to go. You can get the points for half as much as Direct thru Disney costs. The main reason to go thru Direct is that you can use the points on cruises and adventure collection. But, a week in studio at BLT LV costs me over 100 points, and a 4 day cruise would have cost me over 300 points.

Some OKW contracts were extended to 2057. The other question is that would you be happy at OKW? The advantage to owning at one resort is the 11 month booking window. One of the OKW advantages is low amount of points, equal to SV at BWV, and a little mor than V at AKV Jambo.

.
Wish I could afford to go direct and refer you Norm
Now that I know we will be taking Disney trips more often dvc seems the way to go, sucks about the no cruises with resale but that's a bridge ill cross when DD is older, but def feel that BLT is a better fit then OKW so ill be shopping for a resale soon.

Goon Night Guys. Hope everyone has a good week. For the Dads heading to DW, travel safe! Hope everyone has power back from the storm and things are improving.

The age old college football playoff issue... Not having a good D-1 team up here (BC stinks, we all know this), it's never been a hot-button issue with me. Given my druthers, I'd rather see one though. Can't understand why it's the only sport without one...:confused3

Ahhh to be a DisDad!! That's pretty much every weekend except this one, I woke up earlier and DD slept in

I know I can ask this in DVC threads but I wanted to get DisDads thoughts ( smarter then the average bear) I put in a request for more info on a OKW resale for 60 point and it comes with 27 banked, for right now these points are perfect for me and DD. wanted to get thoughts on resale, restrictions and pros and cons and what's the difference in buying say 60 pts at OKW and 60 at BLT, I guess I'm thinking points are points, thank you all for any help

I know there is a thread with in DisDads for DVC. I would say yes point are points, but you have to think of where you want to stay and how far out you normally plan you Disney vacations. The 11 month window on home resorts may sway you to pick a resort you like better, if you normally look around 7 months were your home resort is doesn't matter as much.
We own AKV but have yet to stay there mostly because we are planing less than 11 months out so we usually look at the 7 month window.

I'd love to sign up! Glad I found this place, my wife, DD8 and DD10 are leaving for our FIRST ever trip to the world in December!! My job allows me to spend a lot of time reading and planning every detail of this trip. I'm guilty of reading this site while in my tree stand deer hunting! The whole family is in full Disney mode. Our kids think we are going in February and driving a motor home to Florida, they have NO idea we leave December 16th and staying until Christmas Eve. I would be proud to be a part of DIS Dads.

Paul

Welcome aboard. Post away.

So true, I hate the attacks that take place on the DVC boards.

Renting is a good value. Go for a 1br, they're terrific for the price. If you're going to go studio, it's not much better value then getting a regular deluxe room through Disney.

That was a huge non call on the offensive pass interference by White near the end of the Atlanta-Dallas game. Dallas still had chances to stop them and get them off the field and couldn't do it.
