DIS Dads DDC XXI - Passing Time Until Our Next Trip

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.

The soccer and softball leagues I have reffed weren't bad. Now, I just ref the kids soccer games mostly. Every now and then, I'll hear something stupid from a parent or coach, but I rarely pay attention to them. I never heard that line though. I would probably laugh at it.

Some of the horror stories I've heard about kids leagues have me really dreading when they ask me to coach next year. I've reffed a few games and I'd rather do that but they need coaches worse.

.

As always, great pictures.

Rough hockey game last night. We won 8-2, but I got the heck knocked out of me. On one shift, I actually drew 6 minutes in penalties against the other team for slashing and cross-checking - all within the span of 30 seconds. The ref even commented that I got beaten up pretty good on that shift.

Of course, my wife and kids were in the stands because it was an unusually early game. Upon seeing the rough play (which was not normal because it is a no-checking league) I was gently reminded that we leave for Disney in 12 days and it would not be a good idea if I got hurt playing hockey. :confused3I have bruises all over my back and arms and my left elbow is swollen and black and blue.

We have 2 games before we leave. We are 10-5 and battling for first. I can't skip games, even for Disney.

Any Dads out there who go all "Boy in the Plastic Bubble" or "Running Scared" right before a Disney trip?

Rough night. I just do my own thing. Maybe if I hide in the bubble, someone drops a cigarette on the oxygen.

I coach dds soccer games and ref the other games, so I live on the soccer fields during the seasons. I wish I was in shape enough to play all the time.

That we will. And since I owe you a beverage of choice, it will be on me.

Since I am GM of Team Barry, I think it would be a conflict of interest to let a little girl demoralize Barry. Offered Tim to let her run in his place but he wouldn't meet the asking price of one semester at Seton Hall. She really wants that 20th Mickey medal even though they haven't shown it yet. So I think she will be running the full.

I wish her good luck. Luck also falls on both Barry and Tim with her out of the race.

Hey guys, for those of you with iPhone's and iPad's, the "My Disney Experience" app is now available. I spent some time with it and it is pretty cool. The maps are much better then some other apps. You can make dining resi's right from the app as well :thumbsup2

I'll go check it out.

The weekend is going to be rainy and busy. Only another week-10 days before the female contingent returns to the holler and DS and I are going to be busy cleaning and disposing of things.

Yes, get rid of all the piles of junk they store around the house. Great plan.

That's awesome, but reffing is a dangerous proposition even in the NHL.

I had a coach in high school named Pat Dapuzzo who became a linesman in the NHL for 24 years. You may remember this. His career was ended when he got hit in the face with a skate:

http://www.aolnews.com/2009/10/27/p...guish-depression-after-skate-severs-his-face/

I remember that. You'd think there'd be more skates-in-faces, but thank god there isn't. Clint Malarchuk's had to be the worst.

Has anybody seen my free time? I seem to have misplaced it. I can barely find time to read a post or two on the Dis. Too much work. Hope all is well with you guys. All is well here.

I only have the free time cause of the staycation. Kids are running me ragged though. 4 more nights. :faint:

I'd like to point out one thing I got to experience on my vacation to almost-Canada last week. On one of the days (July 22 I think) I went to the Can-Am festival in Sacket's Harbor, NY. According to the article in the paper up there, it was a festival celebrating the friendship between Canada and the US. I couldn't help but think of you guys when I read that. I know they may talk a little funny and some of their words are spelled wrong, but deep down they're good folk. Plus they gave us hockey and judging by some of the posts I just read, we like hockey too.

If it wern't for the US, we wouldn't have Disney, and I know a lot of Americans who are pretty cool. Not to mention bourbon. Speaking of, why all the Kentucky hate? I mean...bourbon!

Not to mention Louisville Sluggers. Now the drunken Sconnie hate is well deserved.

Been pretty bored lately. Since getting back from vacation, I only had to write one proposal for a client and that one was easy. Glad the Olympics are on to distract me. Currently watching horses prance around.

Thanks to NBC's live streams, I've been able to watch some of the "lesser sports" that they never show on primetime and everyone always complains about when we're fed our steady diet of gymnastics, swimming and the occasional women's beach volleyball (not that I'm complaining about that one). And I've come to realize - they don't show these sports for a reason. :crazy2:

Nothing near as good as CJ's pics....here are some from the week at the cabin. Didn't get the camera out like I used to...

Here is our Cabin...

We spent time at both the pool and the lake, I preferred the lake, always have.

Sounds like what I'll wind up doing. I've been an assistant HS coach. Next spring the twins will be doing youth soccer. Its gonna be interesting going from teenagers to 4 year olds.

I think some of the more fast paced things are pretty exciting. Handball, table tennis and badminton are cool. Rowing? Weightlifting? No thank you. Boxing is only interesting to see how corrupt it is.

Hard to tell here...but with the Lake levels down, we can get out quite far. I think it's only 6-7 ft where the dots representing me and Amelia are..

KY gives us great bourbon. Why would anyone hate on us?

Not to mention Louisville Sluggers. Now the drunken Sconnie hate is well deserved.

And great baseball bats. Just don't use both at the same time.

Sconnie has two "N"s. If you're going to hate us, at least spell it right.

Way to stay on it.

Yeah, it's way different. You go from coaching formations and strategy to guide the herd. We're doing 6 v 6 at U8 and I still couldn't get many of them to play a 2-2-1. She moves up to U10 or U11 this year. She had a career high 20 goals last season and was the best player. Now, she'll be one of the younger players.

The tiny bit of rain that fell did make a nice evening rainbow

Deer!

Only wildlife shots I got, we did see loads of deer, beavers, groundhogs, ducks, loons, turtles etc. No moose or bears though, even at Algonquin.

Took a day trip to Algonquin Park.

Your cabin looks a lot like our cottage. Same kind of low-key getaway. Instead of cribbage we spent a lot of time playing MahJong. I just learned how, but it's a lot of fun.

That My Disney Experience App is great. Thanks Dave. Now, if it would just link to my reservations. Think you can get that taken care of?
