:thumbsup2 You can get all sorts of scientific and cultural lessons in EPCOT. Or so I've heard, anyway.

Our school is actually really good about it. They have a "family time" policy that allows up to 5 days of absences for things such as this.

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

When I win the lottery and move to Golden Oaks, I will home school them daily at WDW.

So what is the length of the school year? How many breaks are added?

I always remembered Tuesday after labour day until mid-June (third week or so) Loved HS cause with exam time you were out by the 1st week etc.

Now it's the same start till the last Friday in June (last year it was June 3oth), I remember talking about this with my parents, and my mom, who worked for the Lunch/Afterschool programs for the board for years was told that the parents complained about what to do with their kids at the end of June (!) so got the school year extended. :sad2:

They get a week in October, 2 weeks at Christmas, and 1 week Spring Break. But, if thre are snow days, they go into June to make them up.

Heck, if I could get a good enough job down there now, I would pack up and leave. FL is a little more strict than IN in its homeschooling laws, but I think it would be worth it. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

It is times like this that I'm thankful DW is a volleyball coach and we have to watch all the volleyball action in the Olympics.

Don't give any spoilers though. It is supposed to be televised in the "not live" primetime broadcast, so I'm just going to wait until this evening. Either way you look at it though, USA wins Gold and Silver! :thumbsup2 :yay:

Well thanks for spoiling it for me Associate Andy!

Wow....still feels like we have more school time. We basicly get 2 months of summer vacation (104 days? I need to move to the tri-state area) Two weeks at Christmas, 1 in March for spring break. There are 5-6 "Professional Development" days for teachers; basicly for report card writing and re-organizations etc. Couple of years ago it was weird to end the year the last day of June, Canada Day Should NOT be the first day of Summer Vacation. :confused3 They can no longer add on days to replace snow days, otherwise you;d get into July then.

Well, they are not really strict when you have $10 million. There are special set of rules for the wealthy. But, I agree with your post. If DW could find a high enough paying in in FL right now,...:lmao:

We have the Federal Holidays in there and some professional days. Those are supposed to be taken away first to make up snow days. I still think it is too many days because they do field trips, movies, parties, field day, ride day, festival fundraiser day, talent shows, and all the other time wasting programs. If I could afford to stay home and home school, I definitely would do that.

We got the Stat holidays too, but last year Amelia went on a whopping 2 field trips, once to the zoo, once for a play one afternoon, maybe a picnic one afternoon near then of year. Any fundraisers the school has is after school, as are most other activities.

‘Afternoon all…

Yard mowed; beat the thunder storms; now I just need a few hours to recover from the blasted humidity.

It varies from district to district even within a state, but we certainly don’t see 104 days of summer so I’ve no idea where Disney pulled that number from. Around here the kids are in school 180 days. Period. They stick in 2 weeks for Christmas/New Year and one in the spring. Start up in mid August and end in early June (unless there are days to make up).

Summer this year was 69 days. If your kid plays football then it was only 31 days. If they are in the band, then it was 38 days. My boy started his week of 12-hour days this past Monday and will continue on through the week. Eight-hour days start next Monday and academic classes start next Thursday (along with five more hours of rehearsal afterward three days a week from there on). One thing about it, my son stays in shape this time of year.

Oh, the fundraiser is after school, but all the rides are setup during the day. The students who sell their tickets or parents who may $, their children get to ride the rides before the festival that night. The children who don't sell their ticket or make the voluntary donation must sit outside and watch the other kids ride the rides.

Genius fundraising or sadistic school. You make the call.

Sadistic.

Norm that sounds like a good plan , as long as DD has a seat I have ratchet straps in case my arms get tired, and a new toothbrush for the millions of bugs in my teeth, I hear it's a great source of protein

School fundraisers... Where else can you buy $5 worth of candy for $35?

Man is that not the absolute truth!!!!! Shari is secretry of our PTO and they ended the year with a 20k surplus so they are waiting until closer to holidays to send out fundraisers!
