A sad morning guys,

Had to run to Home Depot this morning and just turned the TV on. Thoughts and prayers to the victims an their families. Very interested in finding out why this nut did this.

I long for a day when stories like last night no longer occur. Until then, we all have to keep each other safe. Gun safety on one end. Social services on another. And good parenting to our children to hopefully make violence distasteful.

With all our worries, this tragedy crystallized them. I don't know any of you other than superficially. But I hope you all have safe and happy years ahead and that no tragedies befall you and yours

God bless!

‘Morning all…

Very sad news out today. Thoughts and prays for all involved. Things like this almost make posting about such trivial things as what’s going on in my world seem pointless.

But then again, Y’all generally ignore what I say anyway so I guess my commentary has been pointless all along. That being the case, you can ignore the following…

I took yesterday off to take my son on the first of several planed collage campus tours. The three hour drive out, several hours on campus and three more back home made for a long day, but it was still very interesting. It was also interesting to spend that much time alone with my now nearly grown boy without the distractions of friends, commitments or video to interfere. His incites and reactions to much of what we encountered yesterday left me feeling pretty confident that we just may have raised a pretty dang good guy. I’ve always suspected we were doing a decent job at our primary task as parents, but now I’m really starting to see all that work being put into action. I’d call that a fine day.

Did someone say something... :rotfl2:

Well done Rob! :thumbsup2

Those are the moments we as parents wait for...

I am still waiting. :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2:

Nope. No one of consequence said a thing.
Trust me… I’ve not stood out in a crowd for a very long time.

Yours are young yet and you have the teen years to survive first.
If you survive that time frame, the pay off is almost unfathomable.
But that wait can be very had on the nerves.

If this is true it would be awesome. I am a little reluctant to believe.

Well I am not confirming it or anything, there has been off and on work at the poly station between monorails passing through. I heard already about adding a WL stop a while back with a new resort but that isn't even a real big secret.

Ok, now that we've gone into the realm of meaningful current events in our conversation, I'd like to use this post to pad my count and get us back on track to making meaningless, lighthearted posts as we close this thread out! :thumbsup2

To be honest brother, and I'm as Second Amendment as the come, but a concealed weapon could have presented a bigger problem in an incident like this.

Number 1, the guy was wearing body armor...so it was going to take a very well placed shot, and significant situational awareness, under fire, to "stop the threat"--even for well trained guys. (OK Self, center mass didn't have any effect--where do I shoot him now? And then pulling off the shot). That's a little much to ask even of your average street officer.

Number 2, given the chaos and confusion of the scene...the arriving cops may have viewed a legally armed civilian pointing or shooting a weapon as a deadly threat...guess what happens then? More Tragedy. The cops are just as subject to the "fog of war" as it gets.

Now, that being said, if you have a concealed weapons....and have a clean shot...and can end it, then please for god's sake end it right there. JUST MAKE DARN WELL AND SURE SOMEONE KNOWS YOU'RE THE GOOD GUY.

Trust me...even guys like me have to think about this kind of stuff since I'm plainclothes Agent, and not a uniform patrol officer. In a situation like this, a uniformed patrol officer could easily mistake me for a bad guy and make my day go south very very quickly.

Of course, if multiple people had them, it could have ended real quick like. I still advocate carrying--I think everyone should....just remember the situation. This particular even was so chaotic, you don't want to be part of the problem;)

I defer to Fed on all law enforcement matters!

I Don't generally ignore anyone. Good to hear about your son. My oldest is 8 years away. I try to say and do the right things, but realize that I have to compete with so many other influences. I just hope mine don't turn out as weird as me.

Prayers to Aurora from the Gulf Coast.. :(
However, I would put forth that there was gun control in effect, and it worked perfectly. Not one of the victims had the capabilty to defend themselves, or others. If that theater in Aurora was like the local theater here, they probably have the "No Firearms Permitted" signs posted, and of course, all the good, law-abiding patrons (or those too young to be legally permitted) complied. It only takes 1 nutter intent on causing mayhem to really screw things up.
I've only read one story about this so far, but one of the people there said there was a string of about 20 shots, and then a pause, and a rush for the exits. <hypothetical> I would imagine that anyone who had made the decision beforehand to take responsibilty for their family's safety would have made use of that pause to at least try to end the threat. Body armor or not, I'm sure a round or 2 on target would have at least caused a bit more delay before he could have resumed shooting, and maybe allowed time for more personal attention. </hypothetical>
Has anybody heard why he stopped shooting? Did he just run out of ammo? It's obvious there was no police presence during the whole affair, so what happened?

On a lighter note, I'd MUCH rather post on the rumored monorail expansion, expressing my a) general skepticism ;) and b) outrage that the Caribbean Beach resort will apparently be left out of the loop.

You and your wife should be commended. I can only hope when my 2 are that age I can say the same thing. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

That is awesome! I never seen that video before. :smokin:
