disdadIL said:I long for a day when stories like last night no longer occur. Until then, we all have to keep each other safe. Gun safety on one end. Social services on another. And good parenting to our children to hopefully make violence distasteful.
With all our worries, this tragedy crystallized them. I don't know any of you other than superficially. But I hope you all have safe and happy years ahead and that no tragedies befall you and yours
God bless!
Just heard through a anonymous source...
Sounds like you have it all figured out... You forgot one thing in your post.
WINNING! (no charlie sheen)
Morning all
Very sad new out today. Thoughts and prays for all involved. Things like this almost make posting about such trivial things as whats going on in my world seem pointless.
But then again, Yall generally ignore what I say anyway so I guess my commentary has been pointless all along. That being the case, you can ignore the following
I took yesterday off to take my son on the first of several planed collage campus tours. The three hour drive out, several hours on campus and three more back home made for a long day, but it was still very interesting. It was also interesting to spend that much time alone with my now nearly grown boy without the distractions of friends, commitments or video to interfere. His incites and reactions to much of what we encountered yesterday left me feeling pretty confident that we just may have raised a pretty dang good guy. Ive always suspected we were doing a decent job at our primary task as parents, but now Im really starting to see all that work being put into action. Id call that a fine day.
Did someone say something...![]()
Those are the moments we as parents wait for...
I am still waiting.![]()

If this is true it would be awesome. I am a little reluctant to believe.
To be honest brother, and I'm as Second Amendment as the come, but a concealed weapon could have presented a bigger problem in an incident like this.
Number 1, the guy was wearing body armor...so it was going to take a very well placed shot, and significant situational awareness, under fire, to "stop the threat"--even for well trained guys. (OK Self, center mass didn't have any effect--where do I shoot him now? And then pulling off the shot). That's a little much to ask even of your average street officer.
Number 2, given the chaos and confusion of the scene...the arriving cops may have viewed a legally armed civilian pointing or shooting a weapon as a deadly threat...guess what happens then? More Tragedy. The cops are just as subject to the "fog of war" as it gets.
Now, that being said, if you have a concealed weapons....and have a clean shot...and can end it, then please for god's sake end it right there. JUST MAKE DARN WELL AND SURE SOMEONE KNOWS YOU'RE THE GOOD GUY.
Trust me...even guys like me have to think about this kind of stuff since I'm plainclothes Agent, and not a uniform patrol officer. In a situation like this, a uniformed patrol officer could easily mistake me for a bad guy and make my day go south very very quickly.
Of course, if multiple people had them, it could have ended real quick like. I still advocate carrying--I think everyone should....just remember the situation. This particular even was so chaotic, you don't want to be part of the problem![]()
Ok, now that we've gone into the realm of meaningful current events in our conversation, I'd like to use this post to pad my count and get us back on track to making meaningless, lighthearted posts as we close this thread out!![]()
