DIS Dads DDC XX - The Quest for More Bacon...

Good Sunday morning Gents.

Checking in from the in-laws house this morning. No power at the house since the wind storms hit Friday night and with the temps around 100, we decided to take a break in to the Air Conditioned comforts for the day. I will head back home this afternoon. Hopefully, we'll get some relief from the high temps soon.

AEP is saying now that the power may not be restored to our area until end of the week. Looks like they are concentrating their efforts to the Northern VA areas.

Did a bit of running around town yesterday to get a few supplies. The better part of the area is without power. Gas stations were in one of three categories: those without power, those with power and a 20-30 minute wait to get gas, and those that were sold out. Camping supplies were stripped off the shelves and no ice available. Luckily, in-laws have a big ice maker and I plan to take all I can get before I head home.

We lost a few big trees. I had to cut one large branch up to get it off the driveway yesterday and then cut a tree off of the neighbor's car. Too hot to do much more than that right now. DD16's car was damaged by a branch that fell on it and busted out the windshield and back window and put some dents in the roof. She was pretty upset about it but quickly realized that it really wasn't that big a deal and that it can be fixed. Luckily, there was no damage to the house.

Hope other dads fared well through the storms and are able to keep cool. I'll check in when I can but won't have internet access until the power is back. Not sure if I'll even be able to go to work this week if the power is still out there.

Great thing about being at the in-laws house is that they like to cook breakfast when we are all here. The smell of Bacon is in the air!

A double homicide was committed on our property sometime last night. Made the discovery this morning as I was picking up used fireworks off our lawn. Just sitting there along the fence were two half-finished Coronas. Poor guys.

The talk about Victoria and Albert's has me thinking about it again. DW and I have talked about it - I want to find a way to go whole hog, and do the private table, plus wine. She's not so keen on the idea, but some of it might come from the double-whammy of having to have someone watch the kids, and using precious luggage room for nice attire that we would not otherwise have to wear at WDW. Someday however. . . .someday.

Thanks. I actually did have a pretty good game. Drank an entire gallon of water, plus a little bit of a second bottle I brought. Now I'm running to the bathroom every 15 minutes.

Better than being dehydrated.

DW and I ate there once. It still ranks as one of the greatest meals I've ever eaten. We did not do the wine pairing though. We did order a couple of glasses a la carte. There wasn't a single thing they put in front of me that I didn't enjoy. Quail stuffed with sorreno ham and gruyere cheese was off the charts. I would love to do it again some day.

I'm a big seafood fan. I'm sure whatever they do will be great. If I ever get there ...

Back from OH and see I missed a lot of pages, but a random sample showed pictures of poutine and beer so I will pass and just jump back in.

Hope all the dads made out OK with the storm that went through. I had a large limb bust the roof on my storage shed so repairing that is on the list for the next trip to OH. Unfortunately the rest of the tree didn't come down as well. It is a silver maple I can't stand but can't afford to have taken down either. No power for about 24 hours either but considering they were originally saying 5-7 days I'm happy.

I got to see my parents as well when we picked up the kids from them. They have reached the stage where they are aging quickly so we need to make it a priority to get up to NY more frequently. This was the first time I really say my grandfather's face on my dad. Make an effort to spend time with those you love because the years pass all too quickly.

New heat records for this part of KY and many crops are looking bad. I saw some nice corn in OH where they have the ability to irrigate and some that was rolled pretty severely. I heard of some guys chopping for silage and replanting there as well because it was tasseling about waist high. Nothing to loose by replanting other than some seed cost since the chemical and fertilizers are still there. Corn prices should be good if they have any to sell because drought stress at silking will decrease yields up to 50%. Expect a food price jump as well unless South America has a good crop later.

On that cheery note I think I will go have a cold glass of wine and some smoked whitefish for dinner.

You can go with Dave and I. I'm not ready to try the chef's table yet, just the regular one. And yes, I am drinking the wine but will provide complimentary transportation for you via a monorail, bus, or boat, to limited destinations.

We've been staying inside. I'm sure the AC has run all day, although, I'm not sure how to fix that. I just hope it makes it through summer.

I read about it the paper and that was what was reported. Good to hear. I had planned on buying tickets this year. But, June 28 is daughter's birthday and she didn't want to go. Add on softball season, and the result was we didn't go. Maybe next year. I try to get her to watch sports with me for the enjoyment and to see what I teach her, but she is not interested. She would rather watch one of the 100 Disney movies she has. I wonder who got her into those?



Maybe you and I can coordinate our trips and we can go and leave our DWs and children to fend for themselves.

My parents came to stay with us last night and get cooled off. My in Laws are not expected to get power back until after the holiday... have tried to convince them to come here but they dont want to leave the house affraid someone will break in. Cant win for lsoing some times. Shari is on her way home from Chicago. Should be landing in a few minutes...the kids and I have cooked dinner for her...Virginia Beach Chicken (one of my favs), mashed potatos, corn on the cob, garden salad...I might have to go get some ice creame for desert LOL Mmmmm Good eatin at the Wileys this evening!!

Glad you made out OK. Dinner sounds great! If I knew you were cooking I would have made a wider loop back south and picked up a doggy bag.

Well, looks like the AC stopped working. So, I turned it off I hopes that it just froze itself, but I doubt that is it. Fortunately, it looks like rain may be headed towards the area which may cool us off. Otherwise, it will be a hot one tonite. We are going to 5:30 PM mass and will be praying for the AC to start working again. Wonder how busy the HVAC people will be tomorrow?

Good luck. If you don't have AC tomorrow I have a suggestion. When you open the windows, turn a bunch of fans on and have them pull air from outside that's in a shadow. I have the fans pull air from the Northeast corner of the house to the rest of the house. It works pretty good until the air gets into the mid 80s here.

We had one freeze up because of a dirty air filter.

Looks like we're almost out of the woods here. Haven't had a chance to assess the damage, but it's being reported that our town has some wind damage.
