Good evening Gentlemen.

It has been a busy couple of days and I am not sure what I have really accomplished. Oh well, I did the chores SWMBO has given me and sort of have fun stuff tomorrow. Tomorrow and Friday are "Student Led Conferences" at both the middle and high school. Since we are in constant contact with DD17 (will be DD18 on Saturday) teachers due to her not having enough credits to graduate in June, and in close contact with DD13's as she is acing most of her classes, the admin at both schools said they are excused. Tomorrow is also "Job Shadow Day" at Boeing so I will be taking DD17 to Boeing so she can see what her mom does. DD13 has an eye doctor appointment and then I think we will have a nice lunch before we pick up DD17.

I want to thank everyone who responded to my query on printers. I ended up buying a Epson NX230 this morning as it was on sale for $39.99. I set it up this afternoon and have all 4 computers set up for it. Thanks again everyone.

any runners out there????
i just got a pair of mizuno wave prophecy sneakers. (no, im not taking up running. the only place i run to is the bathroom) wow!! im saving them for our trips to wdw but man, just wearing them around the house and out a few times, they are the most comfortable pair of shoes ive ever had. tammy had gotten a pair and said i had to get them. anyone else wearing them?

Hello Dave! Haven't tried them. I wear the Brooks Beast running shoe ... well, in my case they aren't running shoes ... just strolling, walking, meandering, limping, etc.

Well, I just did my first online check-in. :cool1:

I was surprised that I couldn't request anything more specific than a preferred floor for BLT.

I'm hoping my original request with the reservation is honored so I didn't choose anything else when I checked in.

10 Days!

Lake View Studio - 3 adults and 2 kids! :scared1:

I think I requested a room on the north side and an even numbered room. This gives us the best shot on stealing a view of wishes at night!

and here I thought my 2 adults, 2 kids in the BLT studio would be cramped!! :scared1::scared1::scared1:

I was thinking of just asking if we could be upgraded at check-in :confused3 I should research special requests for BLT park view studios.

My $.02. You have three thoughts with this. I was spanked as a child and initially spanked my child. But, I stopped because it wasn't any more effective than anything else. I still yell too much at times, but try not to do that. But, that is my choice.

Which is the 2nd point, it is not illegal to spank a child. We can debate the merits, but since it is not illegal, it is a parenting choice.

Then, the third point is the public intervention and that TV show, what would you do. Even if something is illegal, people still think they should intervene and put themselves in harms way in order to convince the wrong doer to do things the right way. People say, "stand up to a bully", but bullies sometimes travel in packs, carry guns, and/or Spiderman may not be there to rescue them. I am all for calling the police if there is the need for intervention, but not self-promoting Barney Fife.

your $.02 is appreciated. you make good points.

I can't believe they went after her for a spanking. Now if she was beating her daughter they should be applauded... but not for discipline. :confused3

We use time out but I have spanked (lightly)DD before.... but we haven't used spanking in at least 2 years. I think we changed our thinking to more of positive reinforcement opposed to punishment.

I think the woman equated the spanking with beating. Timeouts have been working for us with DD, and hopefully will also work with DS. One thing I am always mindful of as a Dad is that I can never threaten to give a punishment that I won't follow through on. DW, on the other hand, has a habit of threatening to take away things, like say, our trip to WDW!! :scared1: I tell her you can't use that, because we can't cancel our trip!! :rotfl2:

That reminds me - we haven't seen this beauty in a while:

that's like an industrial sized dutch-oven. :lmao:

Can we tell ghost stories now? :woohoo: I've got several. Hospitals are usually crawling with them. My hospital now is a relatively new one (only 16 years old), so there aren't many stories here, but the old Northwestern Hospital in Chicago was over 100 years old and in the building of a former orphanage. Lots of ghost stories there.

My most memorable was something that happened to me in the middle of the night on-call. The hospital had 8 inpatient floors, but a 9th floor that led to the helicopter pad and was used just for storage (you needed a special key to get up there). The ICU was on the 2nd floor and the staff elevator that went all the way up to 9th floor was just outside the ICU. One night, sometime around 2-3am, one of the older security guards got off the elevator and stumbled into the ICU white as a sheet. He told me that he was doing his night rounds, checking on the floors. He took the elevator up to the 9th floor and was going to work his way down. When the elevator opened on 9, there was a young woman at the door. He nodded to her, thought it was somewhat strange that someone was up there (but people did occassionally go there to get supplies), but didn't think much of it. She entered the elevator and he stepped out. He stepped out of the elevator only a few feet to take a quick look around. He saw that there was no one up there, and turned back to the still open elevator door. The young woman was gone. Just disappeared. He got in the elevator and forced it to go down all the way to the ICU. ICUs are typically the most bright, well-lit, and active parts of the hospital at night. The guy was a mess. I would be surprised if he ever went back up there.

Spooky... I love ghost stories! Don't really have any of my own. Unless riding the HM counts?? :confused3

Finally, only rule which I am compelled to enforce - your team must have a Disney-related name. The more clever the better.

I was originally in violation, quickly noticed my error, and it was corrected, although it's not particularly clever.

I was half expecting to hear about a second group that came up to yell at the first group for leaving their kids unattended for a whole minute or two.

Unfortunately, with the advancement of technology and the internet, people worry too much about what others are doing, especially if it is something they wouldn't do themselves. Not only that, but just too much worrying in general. I don't believe that society is more dangerous today than it was when I was growing up 10-20 years ago. We just hear about the bad things more, because that's what gets viewers/readers/ratings, and information is more accessible.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's good to worry about the safety and what not of others, but it seems like its being taken too far more often than not. *steps off soapbox*

While they didn't completely leave their kids unattended, their attention was definitely more focused elsewhere. That thought crossed my mind a few times as I caught snippets of their conversation. Another thought that crossed my mind was how would they like it if I told them they shouldn't feed their kids mcdonald's for lunch because it's unhealthy (not to mention their kids dropped their fries all over the playground and DS kept finding them)! Of course, they'd say it's none of my business. And I'd say, yes... exactly.

One of those kids will go to Kindergarten with DD, so I may have to interact with this group more in the future.

I think so, but I'm not sure, honestly. I haven't had a whole lot of interaction with kids outside of school.

What I do know is that they are starting to weed out corporal punishment in the schools. At the first afterschool academy I worked at, if middle schoolers failed their daily quiz, they had to line up facing the wall and one of the teachers would hit them on the bottom with a nice wooden stick. And they weren't usually gentle about it.

At the middle school I worked at two years later, they didn't get hit with a stick, but they had to get into a sort of butt-up pushup stance and stay that way for about 5-10 minutes.

I've seen videos online of some middle school and high school teachers going way overboard and beating the crap out of some students (other students were secretly using their phones to take the videos). It's not the norm, obviously, but it's one of the main factors of the change in punishments for doing poorly on tests or not following instructions.

Another thing that's changed about this day and age... cell phone cameras. You have to assume someone's going to record it, so why do it??

March 30 to April 2.

Well if you find yourself in Times Square on that friday or monday between 6pm and about 9pm, walk up to the windows at the NASDAQ building. I'll be inside!

and that goes for any of the dads (as long as I still have this job)

ETA: and the Times Square Disney store is just a couple of blocks away, and i think it's open until midnight!

I'm pretty sure that they had some disposable cups, but I am not sure if they can put your alcoholic beverage in there. They may have just been for water. Of course, you could always get a nonalcoholic drink in a disposable cup, order a shot, then mix it before you head out.

... I may have a problem...

they say admitting is the first step... and if you don't admit, then of course, you're in denial. :rotfl:

If I counted right, this was your 4000th post Barry!

Actually, it wasn't I posted over on Katoot's Resolution thread this morning. I then looked at, saw that it was #4000 and went ":confused3 I guess I save my big speech for 5,000." But thanks for noticing!

Counting FAIL!

oh, and congrats, Barry!

Ok, the divisions are set:

Mickey
- Mickey's Steamboats
- Yak n'n Yankees
- Splash Mountaineers
- The Hittin' Mickeys

Goofy
- BLT Goats
- Gray Sox
- Goofy Hustle
- JUNGLE (Nelson) CRUZ

Donald
- Baloo's Cubs
- Maelstrom Kingpins
- Epic Phillie
- PhineastoEzratoGus

Once again, the nemeses have been paired up in the Mickey Division - the Splash Mountaineers and the Hittin' Mickeys. This long rivalry will now continue for another season. Can the Splash Mountaineers - our returning champs - re-capture the magic again this year? The Yak 'n Yankees barely missed the playoffs last year, but were a very strong team in a Nepalese sherpa kind of way. Mickey's Steamboats better bring some color and a big whistle to compete here.

The Goofy division welcomes a couple of new teams to compete with our stalwart veterans, Goofy Hustle and JUNGLE (Nelson) CRUZ - our 4th place winner from last year. There has been some early confusion as to whether the BLT Goats are from Bay Lake Tower or if they have found a secret recipe on how to make bacon from goat. Clarification will be demanded or goat-bacon must be produced. Hopefully, the Gray Sox will learn How to Play Baseball very quickly because they won't be facing the Blue Sox this year.

Finally, the Donald division has last year's 3rd place winner, PhineastoEzratoGus, along with Baloo's Cubs and Epic Phillie, two veterans from last year's battles. They are joined by the Maelstrom Kingpins who hope to use their knowledge of Norwegian spruce to effectively build a roster.

Updates once the draft is finished.

Should be a great season!! at least in Fantasyland. :thumbsup2

Someone tell me that the accuweather extended forecast is crap!

They have rain 4 out of the 5 days at the start of our trip!

It's too far away to mean anything at this point. 10 days away still, right? Plus, it never rains all day down there (just quick showers). Plus, threat of rain might keep the crowds low.

There. Did that help?

Forecasting is just a fancy word for "Guessing".

We officially passed ROFR for BWV resale. Now, just have to sign the contract and send the money. We now have 100 more DVC points. Hopefully, the contract and points will be finalized in time for me to book April 2013 at the Boardwalk.

Very nice! :thumbsup2 Congrats!!

My hospital is much older...therefore many more stories...one that I had happen to me was in the middle of the night on call . I was headed from the front desk with some orders on patients..I was able to see my reflection in the window at the end of the hall...following behind me was a slender and tall man dressed in black. I could hear his footsteps...At that time of night I figured he must have been lost and needed some guidance...I turned around to help him...he was gone....and when I turned back around the reflection in the window was gone also!:rolleyes1 We have stories of nurses coming to help patients that have been dead for years...the patients hae no idea who is helping them and then describe her to the other nurses...that is on 4th floor....we have a tunnel that connect the old building with the new building and it is how bodies are transferred to the morgue out of patient biew....there are MANY stories of things going on down there but I have never seen it myself.

Read that bolded sentence as if the patients had been dead for years... :rotfl2:

thanks for sharing!! did i mention i love ghost stories?? :rotfl2:

any runners out there????
i just got a pair of mizuno wave prophecy sneakers.

Welcome Back, Dave!! and look, you went about 10 posts or so before you mentioned a bathroom! :rotfl2:

Man, that stuff sounds awesome to me, it's been an intrest of mine for around 25 years now. Never experienced anything myself either, but here's hoping right? It'd be neat if the store was haunted, but the only one I've heard of is in the Brantford area.

really weird is my parent's place. Grew up there, lived there for 26 years. Never a thing happened or any hints of it other then my brother claiming to see an arm in front of the fridge when he was really young. My parents are not believers or anything. So one year out of the blue they mention to me seeing someone walking down the hall when laying in bed. Dad saw this, and he is NOT the type of guy for this. It has never been seen since that I know of, but still so out-of-the-blue. DW and MIL saw some stuff in a place they lived in in Sarnia, and as an eerie footnote, we were visiting some of her friends during a visit, and there were other people there too, "friends of friends" if you will. Topic of ghosts comes up and DW relates her story. We discover the placed she lived in where it happened is the place where this guy's brother was killed. (Sounds urban legendish, but all true)

how about a DisDads ghost hunting group?? armed with dole whips and EMF detectors! Ultimate goal is to prove/disprove the ghost of george on POTC!!

Morning Guys!! *yawn

On my 2nd cup of coffee this morning:surfweb:. Wife and the Oldest DD didnt get home from watching Wicked until right at midnight last night. Gonna be a long day for them.

Matt

Thanks. I'm packing already.

Me too :lmao:

Dave and I are stretching our technological boundaries this evening!! :rotfl2:

I heard there was a strain on the hamster that runs the Internet wheel in our area :rotfl2:

For some reason, there seemed to actually be a little bit of interest in this yesterday, so now that you've made the mistake of encouraging me, here's a couple of farm pics from today. Dad had my tractor and cultivator so I was in his tractor disking corn stalks today. Didn't have my passenger with me any though. He was spending quality time with his aunt.

What a beautiful day to be out :thumbsup2

Good morning guys :surfweb:

It's almost the weekend. I was up in northern IN yesterday and saw some serious boat traffic on a couple of lakes. March has been great so far.

how about a DisDads ghost hunting group?? armed with dole whips and EMF detectors! Ultimate goal is to prove/disprove the ghost of george on POTC!!

Awesome idea! Oh, and ask Ron about me and George. I think he's still rolling his eyes about that. :rotfl2:

Morning Dads...lot less foggy this morning, temps must be equalizing themselves. :rotfl2: After me running an incredibly smooth shift yesterday, today will be one of those "inmates running the asylum" days :headache:. Can't wait till the boss's vacation ends Sunday

Good Day Men!

Have you ever had one of those days when you're driving to work and you're getting ready to park and having serious thoughts of just turning around and going back home??

I'm so not wanting to be at work today. It doesn't help that I've been here since 7:30a and I'm stuck here till 8p tonight. :headache:

Just gotta keep telling myself....9 more days.

Norm - Congrats on passing ROFR. Just remember if you ever need any help using those extra points, I'm always willing to help.

Fantasy Baseball - :headache: I hope I can find some time in the next couple of days to pre-rank players. I'm going to be in Gatlinburg with DW's family on Monday.

Now, I've got to get caught up on things in the office since I've been out the past 2 days. Then I have to get caught up on TR's around here. Doesn't help that I'm going to be out of the office 3 days again next week.
