Got off the phone to Seton Hall a while ago and just woke up from fainting on the floor. Hit the tile hard. The call was to their Financial Aid people to give me an estimate on costs. The Pirate Princess is leaning there.

She got a nice sized scholarship but when they added room, meal plan and fees, HOLY CARP. Let alone incidentals like books and playing expenses. Posted on FB that we are lucky we can afford it but I am afraid I will be eating Rahman noodles while she is living the college life. Future vacations will be camping on the front lawn.

Doing income taxes today I noticed a line on deductions for college expenses. Will take full advantage of it on the next return if she goes there. Maybe I can talk her into going in-state.

Good luck with that decision...

Only the best for your princess... :thumbsup2

I'm all doped up and on the couch. No work tomorrow. I'll be :happytv: and:surfweb:Mall da tomorrow.

Florida has seminols and gators. Why go out of state?

We have 4 munchkins... all under the age of 9. My DW is employed at a University that will compensate tuition for her dependants if she stays employed for 8 years. One year down, 7 to go, just in time for the oldest to go. Which is a good thing.:woohoo:

HOWEVER...

We don't live in a great school district, so parochial grade school and private high schools are what families around here do. (It's what the DW and I both did, and our siblings). The closest private high school (all boys) had tuition of $10,000 last year. For ONE year of high school. :scared1:
We have 3 boys, and a girl. And the tuition at the all girl school down the road was $9,300 last year.

So, when you figure the math, we can educate our kids through high school, or buy a house in a good school district with $$ left over for DVC. We've got 5 years to decide... but not an easy decision.

Just got back from the gift auction, sadly I won NOTHING:mad:

They did have 4 WDW HP's

A Chartered all day boat trip for 6

And a 5hr Sport fishing trip for 5

I put in for all that if nothing else I tried to get a Dis Dad fishing venture together, but I'll win it one of these times:confused3

What is the going rate for a babysitter, I'm pretty sure I overpay, I give ours $10 a hour ( I made the price), but she is good with my son, he likes her, she can be trusted, and will drop what she's doing to watch him whenever we need her:thumbsup2

I just don't want to be the couple one day that has to say we couldn't get a babysitter and miss out on something good:confused3

I think college needs to be more than just a big party with a big cover charge. When I graduated, I had no student loans. Worked 2 jobs, partied, and graduated with almost a B average. DW graduated with 10 years of student loan debt. In fairness, I did get to live at home and drive 1 year before I moved out of parent's house. Good luck. This is a big decision.

Agree. SH is a Catholic school so there will not be wild parties on campus. It is close to NYC so all bets are off.

Luckily she will be debt free when she graduates (thank god I only have 1 kid). It is a major short term investment but she is pretty determined to get a Psychology degree. At SH there are many opportunities to intern and get paid for her Masters and Phd doing research. Much better than in Florida. That is probably the biggest reason to go there. Of course if she decides to change to an English Lit. major, I am screwed.

Good luck with that decision...

Thanks. We both appreciate it.

Again, thank god I only have 1. Getting the University to pay for it is a HUGE perk. She doesn't want to be a Gator (Oh the horror) and I will be damned if she will become a Seminole. OK, if she wanted to go there I would be accept it. She just doesn't want to go there either.

Good for you and your back. Can you send me some meds?

Considering the cost of college expenses DD would babysit for $1,637 an hour. Interested? OK, $10 is generous but cheap when you consider she can be trusted and is on call. Worth it in my opinion.

I was about to reserve a flight for the fishing trip. Do better next time.

Like brand new... :thumbsup2

Thanks for asking... :)

Good news.

No idea, we almost always use family (trusted ones at that), it's cheaper that way

Seton Hall is around a hour drive from my house, I can just imagine what the room costs:scared1: Nothing in NJ is cheap:eek:

We pay $10/hour usually. If we are out really late I might give a little more, but I think $10 is a good rate.
