There is only one race left in SC and that’s only because “NASCAR” hasn’t yet gotten around to a complete shameless honorless abandonment of their roots
(but it will happen… likely soon).
Like I said, racing is now about product placement… superspeedways… big market cities… television rights… and everything else that makes America look rather shallow and ugly at times.
We have plenty of small dirt tracks down this way though…
Come on down and I’ll take you out to an actual race.
South Carolina should most definitely hold more than 1 race. One of my favorite tracks is located there.
I agree with you about the commercialization of the sport over the past few years. It is kind of ridiculous that sponsors determine who drives for which team. Although, I'm not a Busch fan, so the fact that Kyle temporarily lost sponsors and Kurt lost his ride really doesn't bother me much.
And by the way, Indiana has it's share of dirt tracks. Where do you think Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart honed their skills?
I grew up on the shorter non superspeedway tracks where you could "bump and run it" and where (cliche aside) "rubbin is racin". You gotta' have the superspeedways like Charlotte, Pocono, Daytona and Talladega...but places like California Speedway and Miami Homestead have the personality of a nun's habit.
Totally agree... don't forget Texas, Kansas, Kentucky, Chicago, Las Vegas and Michigan.

Do they really think the fans
want more cookie cutter tracks?
With the restrictor plates, even the Superspeedways aren't a lot of fun. A few years ago, the drivers ran in Talladega all in one straight line as a protest. They changed some things but not enough.
Restrictor plate or not, it kind of gets old watching them tinker with the cars every year to make the racing better... and while I wasn't a fan of the 2 car tandem draft that made it more of a team race and took away from the packs, it really made for more lead changes and better racing at the end than this new set up.
I miss the cars from the late 90's/early 2000's. Those were actually good restrictor plate races.
Personally, I'd rather watch 20 Bristols, Darlingtons or Richmonds than one California.
You gotta' be a TV personality anymore to even get by...though some of these guys are good wheel man.
Or a team owner's Grandson.
Although I think Dillon does have some potential.
How did Danica get that much coverage? Still all over ESPN this morning. Not that she's not a good driver, she is...and none of her problems this week were her fault, but it's about personlities.
I'm on the fence about her. Everybody seems to either love her or hate her. The media attention she gets puts her in a tough situation though. There's definitely got to be a learning curve, but with a camera on her at all times and everyone analyzing every move she makes, she isn't going to be given as much room to learn and grow as other guys who've come up the ranks. I don't envy her position, but I look forward to seeing what she can do. I just wish they'd focus on the leaders instead of keeping a camera on the 39th place car with 20 to go.
How much play did Matt Kenseth get before he won?
Matt who?
