There in lays the problem. This IS what they think, and… their sales and ratings prove them right. For every fan of “driving” they loose, they gain 5 to 10 novice fans that don’t care about the race near as much as how cool the memorabilia looks when displayed down in their den.

It’s a little like the continued existence of tabloid journalism or the celebrity gossip mill… I may decry its existence, but someone’s out there buying the stuff in mass quantities.

Madison Avenue has “America” pegged. They actually do think we are stupid, they purposely treat us with contempt, and as a society we repeatedly prove them to be correct.
:sad2:

Sad fact is, I live an hour and a half from Kentucky, so I went to that one, even though the racing was crap. Not sure if I'll go back or not though.

Needless to say, I also go to Indy. That's a little different, I appreciate the speedway and what it stands for, but the quality of racing on that track with stock cars leaves something to be desired. I'm really disappointed that they're dropping the Nationwide race at Lucas Oil Raceway Park (or whatever it's name is this year). That was an awesome short track to see a race on.

Hey now:rotfl2:

I've only done that a half dozen times or so...:lmao::lmao:

DW reminded me the other day I need to renew my license and get out more often. Not sure how to take that?:confused3 But who am I to argue, I think I'll head out at lunch and take care of that since it will be in the 70's on Saturday.

So, does G get to drive the boat this year?

I know how I'd take that.....I'd have been out the door a nanosecond after she made the comment:lmao:

All you'd see would be a vapor trail out the door:rotfl2:

G man gets to steer, but that's about it....he can't quite reach the hotfoot yet;):lmao:

On a side note, my fishing buddy died yesterday of his cancer. 10 days from diagnosis to final resolution..:sad1::sad1:

Really kind of tearing a bunch of us up...

We're towing our boats and leaving one rod on the deck for the funeral procession.

I am sorry for your loss, and I think that is a wonderful tribute for your friend.

You guys have any doubles? If so we can set up a seperate thread and do some trading by mail. We ordered a bunch off ebay just for trading so we have a bunch of doubles.

Don't know. I haven't opened the folder since I got home from Florida in December. I got some pins in Hawaii that I need to add to it anyway, so I'll take a look and let you know.

And by the way, Indiana has it's share of dirt tracks. Where do you think Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart honed their skills? :confused3 :rotfl2:

Not only my state, but by city is home to one of the greatest drivers in NASCAR history - Daryl Waltrip. I remember him when he drove the Tide car and did the icky woods shuffle after a race win. We also get to claim Michael, the Greens, and Jeremy Mayfield (although not sure I want to on all of them).

:sad2:

Did you say Madison Avenue or all our elected officials and government?

I was glad we finally got a Cup race, but agree that the track there is nothing unique. By the time I convinced DW to get tickets, it was sold out.

Keep it up Norm. And please do not mention the name Greg Minor again. Was at his rookie debut and he scored a ton of points. Then he faded into oblivion..

I actually checked him at times. The times before he blew past me. But, he was shorter his freshman year. My lone claim to fame athletic career.

I know what you mean with the drink it was 99.9% water or i would mix in those 0-5 calorie drink mix in it for a spice up ! I have the same 12 years married and it was not bad up till this year with wife not working for over 7 month's and this was my stress eating and i really have to start putting in the time to drop it Because i lost my father young 49 he was over weight and was a big time smoker too . and being 44 it is starting to make me nervous every day it gets closer to him !

I drink water as well. Sorry about your dad at a young age. Unfortunately, smoking is a huge risk factor. I was able to quit that for 12 years. DW has had some positive effects on me as well.

Prayers for him, you, and all who knew him. Sounds like a great guy.

That's really good. You're doing very well. .

Thanks.

.;)

What is this trading you speak of?

Keep it up. After a few weeks that exercise becomes routine, and almost second nature. :thumbsup2

Thanks. And, I hope your right.

I got the email I was waiting on this morning...or so I thought. I was waiting on confirmation of our reservation for AKL villa from the co. we are renting dvc points from, but instead the email stated they didn't have the points to fulfill our request:eek:. That was about as bad as the Fedex truck being at my house when I got home the other AM,(thought I had won the OMDD contest).:lmao: No worries they expect to have points soon.

Hopefully, you can still book it. Good luck.

Because of my general smart-assery attitude :rolleyes1 My first response to my wife woiuld be: "Boy, you sure seem awfully eager to get me out of the house" (then I'd duck) :lmao:

It's a cheese & sausage shop / bar / restaurant on I-94 in Wisconsin, just north of Kenosha. Check out their website here: http://www.marscheese.com/

Thanks. The food and drink changes are easy, but am not sure if sustainable. Hopwfully, i can find sime long-term balance. As for the exercise, I played in high school and was in good shape in college. I went to UL and even played with Greg Minor in some pick up games when he was freshman. (He went pro for a few years but was most recognized for not paying child support.) Now, 12 years of marriage have just sucked the life out of me. It has been 8 consecutive days of 30 min exercise. That is a behavior I hope I can continue. I actually feel good, but still don't look forward to work out time.

I resemble this remark.

I was doing pretty well on the exercise thing for a while - I'd gotten up to an hour on the treadmill and 1/2 hour of light free weight work (equal to two episodes of hour long TV shows without commercials). Then, I injured my foot and couldn't use the treadmill for a while. And then on top of that, DW decided to clean out the kids' rooms, and a bunch of the cleaned out stuff ended up in the basement encroaching on my workout area.

And then it just became an easy excuse not to get back up on the treadmill.

I'm about 70 pounds heavier now than I was in college, when I used to play pickup basketball with some of the guys from the 1988 NCAA Tournament championship Jayhawks.

(For the record, big guys who look slow and lumbering on TV in NCAA basketball games are often MUCH quicker when played against up close).

Man... sorry for your loss, Fed. That was really quick. Praying for you guys.

So.... tomorrow's LEAP DAY. Anyone have any "big" plans for your extra day this year?

I've MC'ing a dual Eagle Court of Honor for two young men within our Troop tomorrow evening. Should be a lot of fun. I got to do this last August for another young man. It's such fun to be a part of their lives, and be a mentor to them.

I'm also scheduled to meet with a potential client, and who knows what else. Would rather have been at Disneyland or Walt Disney World for the One More Disney Day 24 hour deal... but I didn't pursue it and so it is what it is. Oh yeah, and taking DS16 to driving school. DW did it last night and is doing it tonight. Tomorrow is my turn. Oh the joy of it all.

Hey SwissDog....

I have a few lizards downhere if you care to come check them out:lmao::lmao:

Mornin' guys.

I just received a call from my dad telling me that my grandfather passed away last night. Last Thursday he took a fall and broke his clavicle. Saturday he was sent to the hospital because he had uncontrolled vomiting due to the meds he was on. They also found he had a touch of pneumonia.

Is it wrong that I am not overly sad? My grandfather was 96 years old. He lost my grandmother to alzheimer's about 12 years ago. It was so hard watching her decline. She had to go into a nursing home and he was there everyday from morning to night. He was heartbroken when she passed. He has been living with my dad for about 6 years. He was really slowing down, he has fallen a few times over the last year and wasn't steady on his feet anymore. He had glaucoma, had to do breathing treatments 4 times day, and had to take numerous pills every day.

He was a WWII vet. He was the captain on oyster boat in Long Island Sound for a number of years. He was a recovered alcoholic and hadn't touched a drink in over 50 years. He cared for his 3 sons, his 8 grandchildren, and his 7 great grandchildren.

He will be missed but I know he is in a better place with my grandmother.

Here is a picture of 4 generations taken this summer after Christopher's baptism.

"Is it wrong that I am not overly sad?" ... Let me put on my "collar" for a moment and say ... Not at all. It sounds like he had a great life and left all of you as a great heritage. After a long well-lived life death can come as a relief ... honor him and remember him and make your life a well-lived life too! (Okay, collar off. Disclaimer ... I don't wear a collar since as my denomination doesn't require it ... but "hat" didn't seem to work there.)

So.... tomorrow's LEAP DAY. Anyone have any "big" plans for your extra day this year?

No special plans here, gotta work as usual. I'm running shift, so cannot book it off, although right now I wish for some extra sleep time, still feeling cruddy. You've got a big day planned though.
