Or maybe they just shouldn't take good farmland out of production by building a subdivision on it!!!!

I agree... but since it wasn't me that did, I decided to make lemonade from the lemons.

The worst part was the family of the deceased farmer stripped and sold off all of the good topsoil - so all we got was crappy clay. That's changed through the years thankfully, but man - those first few years it was hard to do anything in the yard.

I'm with you though... the house I live in is an old house with a lot of old trees around it. Some were dead or partially dead, and I'm not too crazy about a century old maple hanging over my house ready to come down on it during an ice storm. We ended up taking down 2 maples and an ash as well as trimming back a few others. We've put in 2 more maples and a couple of little decorative "trees" that DW wanted.

I've even taken some volunteer maples the past few years and transplanted them in the garden until they get about 4' tall, and then transplant them back into the woods. Just for the heck of it, I ordered a Giant Sequoia by mail a few years ago to put out in a clearing in the woods, but the deer destroyed it.

For our 10th anniversary (8 years ago) we put in a nice Christmas tree in the front yard. I put it near our light pole, so we'd always have our own little "Narnia" in the winter time. It was 5' tall when I put it in. It's about 15' tall now. EVERY spring we have a mama dove who comes and builds a nest in the lower branches, and the past 2 years we've had cardinals in the upper branches. We love the sounds of the birds that use our yard for their homes. One tree even gets a hummingbird nest each spring. :)

I'd change that "For Sale" sign to "For Rent." You'll want to get the Beverly out of Wisconsin by no later than Veteran's Day. :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

Good point Andy.

All this talk of trees. Next to the house is a huge oak that could be 100 years old. Used to have three huge pines but this storm called Andrew took them out. Luckily they fell perfectly and didn't damage anything. FIL had a tree farm and gave us assorted trees and things to make a hedge. That was many years ago and they are now mature. Tried to get Direct TV but they couldn't get a sight line through the trees.

That same thing called Andrew took out the Aviary at the zoo. For weeks afterward I had everything from macaws, parrots and other exotic birds happily resting on our trees. There is now a parrot colony that thrives near here. We also have a colony of peacocks wandering in the neighborhood.

Just dropped in to ask for a few prayers, as I know you all come through.

I need prayers for my family especially my Step-Mother as my step-brother passed away last night at the ripe old age of 39. I say step-brother but as I grew up with him brother is more what he is to me.

My step-mom has now had to witness the loss of her second child with one more with the same condition as my other 2 brothers. I really feel for her as I could not imagine withnessing the loss of even one child.

I know a few prayers would help. The best thing is that he is no longer in pain and in a much better place.

I see many other dads are going through tough times as well and as I pray today and tonight i will also include everyone else in those prayers.

Have Great Day to all Dads
Prayers and :grouphug: hugs to you and your family

Yes, we are known for taxes. But we are known for much better things than that.

Ever hear of PEZ?

I was looking for more, but that's all I got.
That's nice are you that wrong today the reason i say this is i was watching Pawn Stars and a guy wanted to sell his collection of Pez dispencers and he said they were origanally made in Austria ? so you really need to X that off the list lol :lmao:

A great return day. I see an job posting for the exact same position I currently have. It is an additional opening. But, I notice the high end of the pay range is 2K more than I make. So, I call my boss and HR and ask if I can apply for that job, use my experience to get the 2K raise. Their answer was that would be a lateral transfer and I would have to keep my same pay.:headache: So, instead of working today, I caught up on the 100 pages of the commando thread. Peanut butter, Beverly.....

I was late to your original post. Say nothing. Read above.

All hail Barry, King of the Wieners.
That stinks like bad Bacon sorry and good luck on another position :wizard:

Just talked to DW, she called to say she won $1000 today in some sort of online/radio contest today. Not the kind of windfall to get us to WDW, but enough to catch up on a few bills and breathe a lot easier.:thumbsup2
why can't my wife call with this news  Congradulations on the win :wizard:

Don't forget Yale.

Louis' Lunch - where the hamburger sandwich was invented: http://www.louislunch.com/

Ted's Steamed Cheeseburgers: http://www.tedsrestaurant.com/

and, of course, the UConn Huskies Men and Women's Basketball teams!

Just helping out Tim.

Chris

Teds is in my home town... I recommend it.. I would put our pizzas up against most anyone's! Don't forget espn, seeing Chris Berman and those guys at the local dunkin donuts wearing dress shirts and shorts is pretty amusing.

So, I was talking to my sister in law last nite, and she said "when you get back from San Diego, you and Phillip need to talk about the disney trip over Thanksgiving." :scared1:Now keep in mind, I have been asking (bothering) the wife for months about going this year. So, I call the wife up later and ask " Honey, have you and Phillip been talking about us all going to Disney over Thanksgiving?". Her reply: "Yeah, remember I told you about that". Now, I'm pretty sure I would remember someone telling me that we would be going to Disney over a holiday. So, I'm not quite ready to make a countdown banner but Im alot more excited about the rest of the year. :thumbsup2

No idea on what resort or anything, just that it will be the week of Thanksgiving.

Matt

You might be able to catch a MVMCP, depending on your time there. Plan that as well.

When you live on ground flat as a pancake, that used to be a farm... you do what you need to do. This former prairie land may have been great for farming when it was first settled 175 years ago - but not so much for residential subdivisions. .

Same for us. Farmland into residential property. I do wish it had been kept as farmland, but I do not have the ability (or money) to buy the land and work it.

FIRST POST FOM MY NEW KINDLE FIRE!!

DW really likes hers. I have posted a few times from it, but haven't had enough time to adjust to the keyboard.

All I ever win is the opportunity to assist in the transfer $4.7million from a Nigerian lawyer whose deceased client had no heirs.

I won that one too. I sent them a check about 3 months ago. Have you heard anything yet?

You said it so much nicer.

Methinks this is the title of our next thread.

:thumbsup2

:headache: You are indeed getting the short end of the stick. Sorry about that.

Thanks. Still steamed. But, I don't have a lot of other options.

That is horse..errrrr PIE!

So why don't you quit then apply for the other job. I would think you should be qualified... :confused3 ;):

That's where you get into retirement and years of service issues. I may call the retirement board and check into that.

That is great news. Congrats.

Well, if you notice the countdown ticker in my sig, you'll see that we are now inside 180 days. And I havn't made a single ADR. Mostly because up until I fixed it this morning, I was under the impression that I had 3 more days - I put the wrong date in when I made that countdown. Time to get cracking...

Made all mine yesterday by 6:20 am
