Yes, there are a few trees here...

We are lucky. We get to do this in autumn.

Don't you mean to get to do this in the autumn?

I think that's a little more accurate. :rotfl:

Methinks this is the title of our next thread.

Of course now that a lot of members are only posting on the new site, it might take us a while to get to a new thread.:)

It is kind of nice to be able to go to lunch for an hour and not have to read through 15 pages to catch up though.:surfweb:

FIRST POST FOM MY NEW KINDLE FIRE!!

I suppose, but I didn't really want to post like 100 of those little pics! :rotfl:

That would take 4 posts with the 25 images per post rule... :rolleyes1

Sorry, I just finally have a few minutes so I figured I'd better work on some post padding since I've been lagging way behind the past couple of threads.

Don't be so hard on CT, Tim. When I reach CT, I know I'm halfway to my brother's house. :thumbsup2
So CT is a trip marker. I see.

Calm down, Tim. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
:lmao::lmao:

Just talked to DW, she called to say she won $1000 today in some sort of online/radio contest today. Not the kind of windfall to get us to WDW, but enough to catch up on a few bills and breathe a lot easier.:thumbsup2
Sweet! Congrats!!! :yay:

All I ever win is the opportunity to assist in the transfer $4.7million from a Nigerian lawyer whose deceased client had no heirs.

Congrats on the win. Too bad its in Canadian Dollars, but at least its tax-free. :lmao:

Yes, yes you do.

I get that myself here. NOT because there were trees here when the house was built - nope. Because I put in about 25-30 trees on my property (I'm not sure how many there are now, as I've had to take a couple of them out). And in 10 years, they've grown, quite a bit - some more than others, but yeah, we have raking & leaf fun around here too. Just not quite as much as you.

What? You planted your own trees???? :scared1::scared1:

You just wanted an October workout huh? :lmao:

A lot of the local church festivals do something similar up here, except it's outside and they use a cow. Parade organizers will also set up a grid and sell squares to see where any of the horses in the parade will "stop to rest"

Those are all fine and good, but go re-read what I just typed above this. Now what do you think?:confused3

Thinking about it now.

CJ, good point. I'm still trying to convince my 3 DDs that its romantic to elope to Vegas.

Whenever I get cold sweats and wake up whimpering in my pillow I thank god for the fact that I only have one. I feel for you man.

As much as I hate to say it, Tim is right on this one. When they first drop and they're nice and fresh, they're cow pies - thus Cow Pie Bingo.

After they sit out in the sun for a few days and get all dried out, hard and crusty, they're called cow chips - and thus where the Cow Chip Tossing competitions get their name. Yes, there are competitions to see who can throw dried cow poop the farthest. There are many philosophies as to the best throwing motion, but the most popular seems to be a modified overhand frisbie type of toss.

CJ - NOW do you want to come to Wisconsin? :thumbsup2

You are the overlord of cow pie knowledge.

Called the Real Estate agent and a "For Sale" sign is now in front of the house. Cow Pies and Cow Chips, how can I not move up there.

A great return day. I see an job posting for the exact same position I currently have. It is an additional opening. But, I notice the high end of the pay range is 2K more than I make. So, I call my boss and HR and ask if I can apply for that job, use my experience to get the 2K raise. Their answer was that would be a lateral transfer and I would have to keep my same pay.:headache: So, instead of working today, I caught up on the 100 pages of the commando thread. Peanut butter, Beverly.....

That stinks Norm.

Good luck with that. DW keeps watching all those bridal dress /wedding shows. The girls ALREADY play "bride" etc, :headache:

In all likelihood the Pirate Princess will have a modest Disney wedding. Not sure you could use the words modest and Disney wedding in the same sentence. I have a headache in my eye now.

Just dropped in to ask for a few prayers, as I know you all come through.

I need prayers for my family especially my Step-Mother as my step-brother passed away last night at the ripe old age of 39. I say step-brother but as I grew up with him brother is more what he is to me.

Very sorry to hear that. Thoughts to you and your family.

What? You planted your own trees???? :scared1::scared1:

I did.

When you live on ground flat as a pancake, that used to be a farm... you do what you need to do. This former prairie land may have been great for farming when it was first settled 175 years ago - but not so much for residential subdivisions. The house was brand new, and came with one twig of a tree out at the street, since the city requires there to be a "street tree" on every lot. The developer did not do anything else. So I did. We wanted a windbreak, so I put one in in the back yard. That was 10 trees alone. Then we wanted to eventually have a shaded patio, so another 3. Defining the boundaries of the backyard put in several more. A few in the front, and on the sides, and voila. Now we are a critter sanctuary - we LOVE hearing those birds - while many of the neighbors still only have the one required by the city. Most put at least one more in the front yard, but way too many backyards around here are just B-O-R-I-N-G.

I don't mind the raking so much. I usually mulch 'em as long as possible with the mower, and then just rake when I have to. Growing up, the house was built in the very early 1900's, and the trees were put in then. So 70+ year old trees filled our front and back-yards - with an awesome tire swing in one, and a huge treehouse in the other. My dad & grandpa built it - it had a ladder with trap door, functional windows, carpeting, & electricity. My brother & I loved to stay up there on summer nights. I had to rake as a kid, and I rake as an adult. My kids all help, too, so it's not really that big of a deal.

Thanks! It'll be nice to be able to catch up on some payments. DW and I talked about it, and the best thing is to pay stuff off. She is going to order a few things from the Disney Store that she wants since we won't make it to the parks this year, and a dinner out next week.

To be honest though, I'd rather see some good news spread out to the other Dads here who needs it.:confused3

I'd change that "For Sale" sign to "For Rent." You'll want to get the Beverly out of Wisconsin by no later than Veteran's Day. :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

Oh I am sure somewhere along the way DW will put that idea in their heads too. Does Aloha Isle do receptions?:lmao:

Or maybe they just shouldn't take good farmland out of production by building a subdivision on it!!!!

I'm with you though... the house I live in is an old house with a lot of old trees around it. Some were dead or partially dead, and I'm not too crazy about a century old maple hanging over my house ready to come down on it during an ice storm. We ended up taking down 2 maples and an ash as well as trimming back a few others. We've put in 2 more maples and a couple of little decorative "trees" that DW wanted.

I've even taken some volunteer maples the past few years and transplanted them in the garden until they get about 4' tall, and then transplant them back into the woods. Just for the heck of it, I ordered a Giant Sequoia by mail a few years ago to put out in a clearing in the woods, but the deer destroyed it.
