Just got a call from DW. Took the kid to the Dr. this morning because she saw that he was getting a rash. Turns out it's chicken pox. :headache:

Ok, so are you BBQing or grilling. BBQ usually involves more slow cooking, I prefer smoked, and then marinated and cooked in BBQ sauce. If you throw a piece of meat on the grill, cook it in 10 min and slap some sauce on it, that's grilling.

Don't know yet. May do chicken or ribs (BBQ) or steaks, hamburgers and hot dogs (grilling). Have a decent sized Webber so while it can't "smoke" it can do low and slow using the indirect method. Also have a chips holder thing that will provide some smoke. Not quite up to KY or Carolina BBQ standards but it will do in a pinch. Have to get me a smoker one of these days. Almost bought a "Big Green Egg" that can do both but didn't wan't to spend the $$$$$ for it. I like to think I am pretty good on the grill but am always looking for new techniques and recipes to play with. You are welcome anytime to show me your style.

OK, booking question:

We are making our grand return to WDW after 2 years without a trip this Christmas. Checking in on the 19th and out on the 26th.

I know the park itself is nuts on Christmas day but how is it the week leading up to the 25th?

Crowded, crowded crowded. That doesn't mean you can't enjoy it. Did a couple of Christmas/New Year stays and we had lots of fun. Got to the parks early, did what we wanted to do and then left. Plus they really do Christmas right. Lots of extras to see and do.

OOHHH that'll be a fun one. You have fun with that.:thumbsup2

Just don't let him scratch. I grew up in the day when if somebody got them they put all the kids together to get it over with. My 2 had the immunization and I hope it works. While the chicken pox are annoying I hear shingles are much worse if the virus reactivates later in life.

We will be there (at least such are the plans) from the 24th through the 30th at Kidani. We were there 2 years ago at Xmas and crowds were so-so early in day Xmas Eve day and Xmas day.

Do you want to meet somewhere on 24th or 25th? Maybe a spot of wassail for the holiday spirit?

I don't know. I use a chip tray with my gas (I know sacrilege) and have had some great smoked ribs. If I can find some good casings (collagen not pig) I might try smoking some lenguica or churico (good Portuguese sausage)

We really had fun. If DW didn't have to be back to work on the 2nd, we would stay a few extra days, but flying back on the 1st or 2nd is iffy.

Sorry to hear this Andy. I hope he is ok. Have you had them before? I never had them as a child and had to get vaccinated when we had kids. The adult version, shingles?, is pretty scary.

Oh man Andy. I feel bad for the kid.

Used gas for years but went back to my roots. Ribs came out better than OK but love my Webber now. Just can't be as spontaneous any more.

What will it be like Dec 1-11?

Not bad at all. Used to be one of the slower and cheaper times of the year. You will still get the full blast of Christmas decorations and festivities.

Dec 1-11

6, 2, 5, 1, 1, 2, 3, 6, 1, 5, 2

Plus you will have pop warner one of the two weekends so. I haven't looked to see if they even have it scheduled yet. That may adjust the numbers as it gets closer.

I wish you all the best.

Yeah, we can keep it here with the measles that somebody brought to the Super Bowl Village.:rolleyes1

Poor kid. Those are the worst. Hope you've had them.

Time to duck tape the oven mitts on...
He's been doing pretty good so far. DW asked me if I thought it was chicken pox this morning... I didn't really think so because he tends to get heat rashes if he gets too hot and he hadn't been acting sick and wasn't scratching. That's why I'm not a doctor.:thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

We were there Nov 28 - Dec 3 last year and I'd call the crowds moderate. The parade taping and some other special events might need to be worked around, but if you go to low crowd level parks and plan, it is great.

My mom wants to do a trip with the whole big family and is looking at either the week of 12/2 or 12/9 this year. Nothing is booked yet, but I'm afraid we might not get to go now. With time off for the baby, an already scheduled trip to Gatlinburg with her parents, and now taking time off while DS gets over the contagious stage of chicken pox, I'm afraid we might not get to go. DW was already going to be taking a lot of unpaid time off... I'm afraid the only way he'll allow her more is to take a permanent vacation.

Be careful then with the shingles vaccine. Originally, it was made for adults who had had chicken pox as a child and meant to prevent shingles. They may include you by the time you're old enough. Originally, it was only approved for 60 + and I think the age has been lowered.

I too have switched to gas for convenience. FIL has the mega smoker, and will smoke turkeys and hams for the holidays. At one point, I planned to build a BBQ PIT in my backyard, but as with most of my ideas, they ended with DW, effort, and money.
