NOt going to bother trying to catch up on the last 20 pages or whatever I have missed. Had a moderately busy weekend, between date night, gaming, a Cub Scout hike and two trip to launch model rockets for DS science fair.

The good news is that the date was fun (first time in several months that we have gone out and had a dinner and conversation sans kids, although she spent some time talking to a coworker who happened to be in the same restuarant), the hike was in good weather (and we picked up a fair amount of litter), and, of our 10 launches, we recovered the rocket every time, and had useful data from eight of the launches. (Not sure the rocket would launch again though - cardboard tubes don't fare very well with repeated crashes into snowdrifts.)

I'm not looking forward to having to take vacations around daughter's school schedule. Really limits your options.

Yeah. We originally went in September, and while the weather was hot, there were no lines at WDW. It was the best. Fortunately, our school system does a Fall Break over Columbus Day weekend, and outside of 1 day last year, we have not had crowds at the theme parks during that week. Now, Spring Break always falls the first week in April, which from time to time, will overlap with Easter week and super crowds.

Louisville is about to lose to Syracuse. Looks like they get a last second shot. And, Pitino even had on the white suit.

She loved the cold and snow when she visited me in NY. Living in it may be another matter. We will be going up soon to check out SH and St. John's. She may change her opinion then.

Found the camera and I-Pod buried underneath a suitcase on the couch. My mood is much improved. Will post a couple of pics tomorrow. That is if this thread is still alive.

Well, she better. It is really cold. Maybe it's easier when you are younger, but i think it just gets worse each year when it is cold. Glad you found your camera. It's not like a new thread won't be around if this one closes.

And miss all our intelligent comments? Glad to hear anout the rocket.

I'd like to do a road trip one of these years, but DW wants no part of a 22 hour drive with 2 young kids in the back... So I'll probably just go it alone. :rotfl2:

Our first two trips to WDW, 2004 and 2005, were road trips from NJ. The first was a convoy with family, four vehicles, left late in the afternoon on friday, stopped at Rocky Mount for the night and finished up the next day. Drove straight through on the way home. Was quite the adventure. We lost the alternator on the Suburban on the way home, had to pull off about 70 miles south of Richmond on I 95, Sunday night before Columbus day. Pulled into the lot of a small convenience store. All four vehicles, my hood up, elderly gent comes out and says, "you folks need a mechanic?" we said no, we have three of those here but we need a new alternator. He says, "no problem, i know an Autozone that's open until 10. Let me run this milk home and I'll be back." I went with him, drove about 10 miles back I-95. My cousins had taken off the blown alt while we waited for him to return. We had called ahead to confirm they were open and had the part. Sure enough, new alternator, and he took me back on Rt 1, the scenic route, showed me where he owned property. Turns out he was a baggage handler at Ronald Reagan airport, retired, and had a job now running auto parts for several garages in the area. We got back, my cousins threw on the alternator and we were good to go. I gave the guy a twenty for gas money and my wife later UPS'd a large batch of homemade chocolate chip cookies to them. We lost a total of one and a half hours total. Must have been some left over Disney magic. I didn't find out until a few years later that when i drove away with the guy that my cousins said, "I don't think we are ever going to see terry again." The Second trip was much less eventful. We did most of the drive solo, made it to Savannah for a stop over in twelve hours. But we decided that flying was the better way to go. Take the 6 am flight out of newark and have practically a whole day still ahead of us. A word about my cousins, while i was perfectly capable of doing the alt swap, i had the tools in the truck, they just took right over and did the work, bickering with each other the whole time. I call them the Terror twins, they are brothers. We have a saying about these two. They'll give you the shirts off their backs, but they'll tell you how to wear them.:rotfl:

Great Story!!!:thumbsup2

I've been sitting back and reading posts so far. It was overwhelming to keep up with at first. Most conversations I was lost in but I'm picking it up now.

What part of the great state are you in?

Dang what a fast moving thread. Miss a week, miss 100 pages.

So, welcome to all of the new dads. Hope that you enjoy this place as much as I do, although I've been so dang busy at work checking in regularly has been rather rough. A couple of weeks ago was my son's birthday and I mentioned a rumored gift; well, the rumors were true. His grandmother (my mother) got him:

http://uncrate.com/p/2008/06/lego-death-star.jpg

3,803 pieces, built it in a week. Really cool stuff. I'll attach some pictures of his final product when I manage to download the pictures.

They're calling for a slushy mix of snow, sleet, rain tonight and tomorrow morning. The way things go here with snow, this event could cause us to be out of school for a couple of days :lmao:

Can't wait!!!! That is too cool :cool1:

Very kewl. I had the chance to pick one up at the Lego store at WDW a few years back - the box was destroyed, but everything inside was still bagged and guaranteed to be intact, but they had a nice discount on it. And I had one of my (rare) responsible adult moments, and talked myself out of getting it. :headache:

And miss all our intelligent comments? Glad to hear anout the rocket.

What intelligent comments? ;)

I wasn't too concerned about the rocket, but the altimeter that we had tucked inside it was something that I did not want to lose. Still, he had fun with it, and we enjoy building the rockets and launching them together. Trying to talk the wife into either coming with us, or just letting us guys go for a day trip to an annual meet later this year. I figure that is our best chance of launching something that will go up half a mile - and with a lot of people watching, we might even manage to find it when it comes down! :rotfl:

There's a chain of convenience stores over here that has a certain chime that plays when customers walk through the door. I just went there about a half hour ago and can't get the song out of my head.

You guessed it. "It's a Small World". :headache:

But really it's just cheese.

Not just cheese, squeaky cheese!

I am in Toronto - we have one of the highest airport taxes in the world.

Flying from here to Orlando is around double the price it would be from Buffalo (or even more then 2x). Buffalo is about 2 hours to drive, so we try to fly out of there.

But we also drive occasionally.

With me as the only driver though, it becomes looooong, and monotonous.

Well I'm pretty much at the exact half way point with a pullout couch and an open guest room. The only thing we require from any Canadian guests is a tin of Tim's coffee........and a box of Shreddies.

It's not the same unless it malfunctions and you are stuck in there listening to it for 45 minutes.

That is a sweet offer! :thumbsup2

No kidding. A few years back, we went without the kids, and yet still somehow found ourselves riding IASW. Naturally, the ride got stuck. And we sat. And sat. And sat. And I started to think about just getting out of the boat and wading for the exit. And then, finally, gloriously, we began to move. . . .backward. And I swear, I was actually getting up to climb out of the boat at thatpoint - it wasn't bad enough that we had been in the ride for an eternity and a half, but now they were sending us through it backward? :scared1:

IIRC, we left the Magic Kingdom and headed for Epcot. Specifically, for the World Showcase section, with all of it's lovely, mind-numbing alcohol. ;)

Great day today! Arrived at the Animal Kingdom around 10:00 am hit almost every atraction except everest. We ate at Yak and Yeti. Left Ak and went to kona cafe for dinner and then took old Band-aid over to the MK. Almost everything was walk on.:thumbsup2 Banner day! Everyone is very tired.

For the customers, at least. Imagine having to work there and every time a customer walks in or out you hear the tune for the first line. EVERY TIME. For a full shift.
