The latest from the police is that they are issuing a nationwide Missing Persons alert for him. He has a rental car, and I don't know what make or model it was, but the police do have that information. They've been talking to my MIL.

They checked his credit card. There was a charge of $20 in Raleigh last night at 10:50 p.m., and then another charge of $48 around 5:30 a.m today way out in Asheboro.

Unfortunately, this situation really has not changed.

Guys, if you could say a quick prayer for my FIL, I'd appreciate it.

He is in his 70's, and down in North Carolina on his own. He's supposed to be attending a weight-loss program at Duke University. He had previously attended this program 10-15 years ago.

Unfortunately, his ability to take care of himself has deteriorated in that time, and appears to be much worse than we knew. He was missing all of last night. The last we heard from him was around 7:00 p.m. or so. He got lost between the university and the hotel (about a 3 mile drive). He was stopping to ask for directions, but the directions he was given were too complicated and he couldn't remember them. We got a call from my MIL at 11:30 last night and she said my FIL wasn't answering his cell phone (he forgot the charger and may have a dead battery).

She called the hotel this morning. They checked his room and no one was there, and the sheets hadn't been pulled back. A call to local hospitals didn't turn up anyone by his name, and they said no John Does came in. So right now we're just waiting for word, calling the university, hotel, etc. Probably calling the cops soon.

Mark we are praying for you and your family. I hope your FIL is found safe and soon

I working on Day 6 of being down & out with this flu. The Bug is already feeling much better. She had a flu shot this year. I didn't. She was sick for about 24 hours. I'm looking at being pretty much wiped out for a week.

I'm getting my damn flu shot next year!! (I normally do get it - it's offered free at work. This year was just weird, as I happened to be out of the office for both the regular shot day and the make-up day).

I hope you feel better soon. I too didn't get the flu shot through my work. I opted to not get it this year. I had been getting it and decided I would go without it. Wife got hers and was sick after getting it. I heard they were adding vaccines and messing with it this year so i decided against it. Been good so far.

I was down and out all day Tuesday with a stomach bug, and last night DD and DW took turns calling Ralph at the toilet bowl, unfortunately. I got the flu shot this year, and was able to recover from that bout in a day (looks like they are recovering quickly too), so maybe there is something to it? I have always been skeptical but succumbed this year due to DW's pressure with the newborn worship.

My DW is anal when it comes to stuff like this. Somehow she hasn't busted my chops too much thus far.

No, my in-laws live here in Delaware. If he went that direction, he's disoriented completely. Or someone stole his credit card.

We have not been able to get much out of the credit card company. I asked my MIL to call them and have them flag his account and call the police if/when any new charges showed up. They said they can't because she's not the primary card-holder, blah blah blah. It's likely the police asked for the card number anyway.

All I know is that my wife went and got her flu shot about an hour after I was diagnosed, and she's managed to avoid it completely. Mikaela had her shot, and it's the equivalent of a cold. Jon got his shot, and has had no sickness at all. I didn't get a shot, I'm sick as a dog.

The flu shot is a slightly different vaccine every year - it's tuned to match the strain of flu that is suspected to get here from Asia. The goal is to match as closely as possible, so that it blunts the impact of the disease. As I recall, this past year's prediction was complicated - they had to make a decision, and a single strain wasn't able to be isolated as the clear candidate for North America. So they made a combined vaccine that included more than one strain.

I really don't understand the opposition to vaccines. They're scientifically well-established keys to public health. I just feel stupid for not just taking five minutes while I was at Target (after missing my shot at work) and getting my shot there - my wife discovered that it was covered 100% by our insurance.

Had it once and got sick. I'm still at the age and have reasonable health that a respiratory infection doesn't worry me too much. I just hate the stomach bugs.

On a personal note and imho I don't think it is entirely bad for our body's to get sick once in a while to build a natural defense.
