Going to be 66 degrees today?!? I'm not trying to rub it in... but I don't ever remember temps like this in January before... let alone the END of January. Now where did I put those clubs again....:rolleyes1

I’d be findin’ a way to dig those clubs out if I could. It might be a while before you see another opportunity. :rolleyes1

Hey guys. Hope everyone's off to a good Thursday.

Weather's been all over the place up here, but hoping to get some ice fishing in this weekend, we'll see...

Aaron, was listening to the WDW Today podcast yesterday and heard them answer a question you sent it. You hear it? :confused3

feeling a bit better today. my cough is settling into my chest and giving me a nice burning sensation... but I prefer that to running to the bathroom. DS was miserable yesterday afternoon and last night. He's finally taking a nap right now. I feel bad that I'll have to wake him in 15 minutes to go an pick up DD.

Tivoed "Touch" last night, but fell asleep trying to watch it. I'll have to try again later, or tonight. I've also been watching Alcatraz. With my track record, that means one or both of these shows will get canceled.

My new boss is going back to DC tonight, which means from here on out, I'm in charge at work. :cool1:

Hmmm... never been to one, so I didn't really know. I just thought it was a wholesale place like a Sam's Club or something. :confused3

I like Cosco (in general). It’s basically Sam’s (but the profits don’t go to “The-Evil-Market”, which suits me). It’s like every other warehouse club… you have to be picky about what you get; sometimes it’s a deal; sometimes it’s just a whole lot of something at the same unit price.

By the way, just read this story, I'm sure you've already seen it...

Thanks for the link!.
I knew it was going to be happening, but didn’t know exactly when. There was a long delay after the ship left dry-dock. They were waiting for enough funds to be raised to finish the area where they were planning to berth her. At times there was even talk of it not happening and for the Laffey to ultimately be moved somewhere else. I’m glad it didn’t come to that. I now need to get back down there and see preservation work that was done for myself.

Awesome report. Pearl Harbor is definitely on my bucket list. I know how moving it must be. I've been to the Peace Museums in both Nagasaki and Hiroshima, very humbling experience. It would be interesting to see it from our perspective. I'd also be interested in seeing if my Great-Uncle's name is there. He survived the attack. Wasn't until 10-15 years or so ago that he passed away.

In the Shrine Room of the Arizona Memorial there is a marble wall with all of the names of those who died that morning. Then a smaller wall with all of the names of those survivors from the Arizona who chose to have their remains added to the site.

Over at the Visitor's Center there is a large circle, with all of the names of the dead from the attacks, of all of the other ships, military bases and civilians who were killed. There is also a listing of the survivors of that morning's attacks. Your Great-Uncle could very well be listed.

Pearl harbour is a place I would love to go. I always look for historival locations and I think this would be a tremendous placve to visit.

The hot tub sounds pretty cool as well. Where do I find your blog to see the rest of the pictures?

Pearl Harbor was incredibly fascinating. I could have spent the entire day there seeing the 4 different memorials & the visitor center, but didn't have enough time. But that's cool - it's a must do again when I'm next here.

You can find it here.

That is why I keep mine in the cab of my truck. I still never use them, been to driving range twice in last year and can't remember when I actually walked a course. I think last time was in 1996 or 97. I need to get out more.

You forgot to rub it in that you had a Dole Whip.

Let's just say that I chose to leave that out. But since you mentioned it...

The Dole Plantation is only about 30 mins from Aulani. It is a nice experience, though like any other tourist destination, a money pit. Pay for this, and this, and this, and oh yeah, this too. But at least parking is free. The Plantation Grille has a nice menu too. And the options for your Dole Whip are plentiful. Dish, cone, sundae, float, toppings, souvenir pineapple cup... wow.

I rode the train through the pineapple fields, and had a nice view of the central Oahu valley. I looked at the Koi pond, skipped the Garden tour, skipped the world's largest Maze, and endured the gift shop, but didn't buy anything.

After that, I headed north for 10 minutes to the North Shore. That was, beautiful, what I saw of it. I was headed back south to Pearl Harbor, and didn't want to stay too long at the shore, since I was supposed to meet my brother after I was done at Pearl Harbor. Unfortunately that changed due to his work situation, I later found out, so I could have lingered longer. Oh well, next time...

Stopher...man, that place looks NICE!!

It is man, it IS!

Wow, great pictures, Stopher! I'll have to go check out your blog.

I've been to the Pearl Harbor memorial twice in my life--it is absolutely deserving of a place on your bucket lists. Standing over the USS Arizona is very eerie, and very moving. People still maintain silence and respect as they wander through the memorial.

Oh yes. It was amazing to watch so many people who were chatty on the boat across become nearly silent on the memorial. Watching the oil seepage, and seeing the ship just under the feet... wow. Very moving indeed.

Christopher Great pictures and updates!:thumbsup2

Thanks.

Stopher!
Thanks for the update. You know we’re all looking forward to these on a daily bases now. I’d say I was jealous, but it would just be a pointless exercise in utter futility. I’ll have to go read you blog this evening.

I really need to get to Pearl Harbor at a minimum. It just figuring out how that’s got me bum-fuzzled.

I've wanted to get back here for years. Came as a kid with my parents a few times, never as an adult, til now. We bought points here to make sure we included it in our rotation - more for the long term of "couple" time, though we will bring the kids once or twice. I'm glad we did. It will provide an awesome alternative vacation destination in the years to come.

Ok, Christopher you have to stop this. I know you are only doing your job, but those of us who can't afford to go are going to have to mortgage our houses to visit. :rotfl2:

Seriously though it sounds like a blast. We visited DC this summer, and saw a bunch of memorials, including the 911 memorial and the tomb of the unknown soldier at Arlington cemetery. Very moving, and even as a Canadian you can't help but feel the national pride.

Oh yeah, it was fascinating to see so many other nationalities all have similar reactions to the pre-film and the horrors of that morning's attacks. And then to stand on the deck of the memorial. Wow.

Nice update Stopher. Pearl Harbor is definitely high on the list of places I want to visit. One of these days...

Costco sells boats!?!?

Keep it on the Bucket List Andy - it's been on mine for 30 years. Keep dreaming and pursue the dreams, and they'll eventually come. When researching the flights, I was prepared to pay through the nose, but honestly found a very reasonable deal. Not so bad for 2 either... it's when I add in the kids that the whole squeezing a turnip thing comes to mind.

Yes, Costco sells LOTS of different things.

So what you're saying is, always use the higher level, this way noone else's fluids come pouring down on to you in the lower?? :lmao::rotfl2:

Hadn't thought of it that way, but I suppose so. Though what goes down does go back up again - to the top level, that is. The waterfall does help to churn it all up, so it's always moving. You never quite know what is there. :rotfl:

Going to be 88 today... :rolleyes1

Hmmm... never been to one, so I didn't really know. I just thought it was a wholesale place like a Sam's Club or something. :confused3

There's one in Castleton - perhaps one day after I'm back we can meet there and I can take you in to see what it's like. We've been die-hard Costco people since 1994. Love it. We've purchased all kinds of things there, though never a car, boat or travel - I have looked at car purchases through their program.

Guys, so I'll be in Orlando next week for my company conference and the plan is to have a "meeting" Friday at one of the parks...maybe and to definitively hit HS on Saturday. My dilemma is, I can't decide between going to MK or EP on Friday. EP has EMH for the evening that day too. Or save some $$ and just hang out at DTD and Boardwalk.

Any thoughts?

I would be hard pressed not to go to Epcot, it is my favorite.

Great pics Stopher. I am looking forward to getting together when you get back and hearing more :thumbsup2

We were originally supposed to record it last Thursday. First, I was running late because kid activities ran late. I got online, we tried to find a third panelist who could help us out with Wilderness Lodge and struck out. We finally started recording about a 1/2 hour late . . . or so I thought. As I was congratulating David and Eric for doing such a great job, I go to upload the file for editing, and discover that I had missed when I went to click the "record" button on the recording software. So we'd chatted for an hour about Animal Kingdom Lodge and Wilderness Lodge, but had nothing recorded.

So we rescheduled for tonight. But David was having difficulty maintaining his Skype connection, and with only three people on the call, it was difficult to work through. With a larger panel, we've been able to cover such situations in the past pretty seamlessly. But we couldn't cover it with just two people, so we gave up. We're going to try again next week - hopefully with at least one more panel member with experience at Wilderness Lodge.

"Difficulty maintaining your Skype connection" sounds like it should be the next euphemism in popular use. "Well, doctor, overall I'm feeling okay, I'm just, you know, having trouble maintaining my Skype connection..."

Also, curse you, curse of Episode 24!

For the record I am maintaining my Skype connection just fine :lmao:

I am sorry about it not working out last night.

Not yet. Do you remember which episode? I've been bad about synching my iPad lately (which is usually how I listen to podcasts).
