I saw a blind power-walker and her guide. Good to see that. Sad thing is that I didn't catch her until mile 10.

And she never saw it coming...

It was really inspiring to see all the people there that had overcome major obstacles to run this year. You could probably make a really interesting book based on many of the peoples journeys to get to that race. Reading Race reports and other posts on the wish subforum and seeing people there is one of the really great things about being a part of a race like that.

It was kind of fast for a little while this morning. I logged on and caught up with all the TR's I follow and caught up here before it slowed to a crawl. I must have bogged it down with my TR update. :lmao::rotfl:

What are you trying to say? We should all go read your TR? :confused3:confused3 :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

DDCXVI- Yuuuuuup! We are the ones responsible for slowing down the DIS

Just an FYI guys....

Today is National Peanut Butter Day....

Hope everyone has a great Peanut Butterin' Day!

I think, in talking with my DW, we're going to still try and surprise them. I've been torn though. I really would like to start showing her POV youtube videos of some of the attractions she'll be tall enough to ride this year.

I think it would be very beneficial to her because she's kind of the nervous type when it comes to rides. Once she's on them, she enjoys them. It's just getting her to agree to go on.

Atleast I hope she's 40 inches by the end of March. :wizard:

Hummm… does she “know”, or is it more like “she knows you’re going, because you always go” (from her perspective that is).

Maybe the question to her is: “why do you say that?” Her answer may tell you that she has indeed deciphered your code, or it may be that she feels like that’s just what you do and it’s about time to do it again. Even if she has figured it out, she doesn’t have to know exactly when you’re going.

Max would ask us “when are we going back to Disney again” and I’d answer: “As soon as I have the extra funds to pull it off”. The fact that this event had already occurred and we were just waiting for the scheduled date didn’t enter the conversation, because he didn’t think to ask the question specifically enough or follow up on it.

As for the POV videos… make a game out of it. Say something like:

“Since we can’t go to Disney this week, why don’t we pick a new ride and watch the video of it. Then… when you’re bigger and we do get to go back… we will know what new rides to go see.”

It’s the “when your bigger” bit of that that can throw her off. It’s not exactly being dishonest, because she’s “getting bigger” every day, so the non specific timeframe makes for good obfuscation.

Can't believe FED has more posts than I do in this thread. :surfweb: Even with all the fishing he is doing lately....

I meant to share this yesterday....

As most of you know, my next trip to WDW is in 67 days. And we are keeping it a secret from our girls and surprising them once we land at MCO and get on Magical Express.

Well, two nights ago, as I was putting DD4 to bed, my DD was asking where she was going in the morning. This is my daughter that has to always have a schedule and know what's going on when.

So I told her that she was going to her Grandma and Grandpa's house while we went to work. Then she says "And Tuesday and Thursday, I go to school"

"Yes, that's right"

"And Saturday is Baby Kate's Birthday party"

"Yes, that's right"

then she says...

"So, how many days until we go to Walt Disney World??"

:scared1:

so I responded....

"Um, who said we were going to Walt Disney World....we're not going, but we'll go someday again"

she says...

"Dad, I know we're going - you silly!"

:scared1:

Maybe it's all the hush hush talk my DW and I have been doing, the talking in code and abbreviations....maybe it's all of the disney characters she sees when I'm on the DIS at home...I don't know.

But now I don't know whether to keep on keeping her out of the loop and still try to surprise her or what!

Darn intuitive 4 year old Daughter!

Oh no.... :scared1:

As a nemesis, I'd like to say I am behind this, but unfortunately I am not.

Our kids don't know about our August trip yet either. I won't be able to get away with keeping it from them until we arrive, as once we leave to the airport, or drive (not sure yet) they will clue in instantly.

But I know what you mean about the sneaking around. I see my wife trying to do it waaay to much. Almost to the point where the inconspicuousness of it makes it very suspect. i.e she tiptoes around saying "Let's go to the Disney Store" as she is worried they will figure out that we want to go there, to get new t-shirts for next 6 months in the future. I disagree with the overly secret methods. Why wouldn't we buy Disney t-shirts, even if we weren't going?

I tned to talk to my wife about it in front of the kids by saying things like "If we ever go back to WDW, where would you want to eat?"

I even ask the kids "If we ever go back to WDW, what rides would you want to go on? What things would you want to do?" then I tell them, I will make notes of that for when they are 25 and have a chance to return. :rotfl2:

I guess I can work for Disney now... they are going to start allowing beards/goatees for CMs:

Disney to allow workers to grow beards

Interesting…
I wonder what actually prompted that. I’d be surprised if they were having trouble staffing the parks and saw that as an impediment to hiring.

But… it also means that I can work down there as part of my retirement plan.

:lmao:

I'm with your line of thinking here. Kids know something is up when the whispering/ tip-toeing goes on. :tiptoe:

:thumbsup2 <--- I like this approach. I've been doing something similar with Squeaker lately. He's been talking for months now about wanting to go on a Disney Cruise. It's the combination of two things that intrigue him - Disney, and "a boat with a basement." We recently found out that we're going to be on a short Disney Fantasy preview cruise at the end of March. (I should probably create a ticker for that). So in the car on the way to/from preschool I'll have a conversations with him like, "IF we get to go on a Disney cruise, what kinds of things do you think you would want to do?" or "You know, IF we go on a Disney Cruise, they have something called a kid's club that's only for kids to play in - no parents allowed. Do you think you'd like to do that?"

So I get to prep him a bit for the experience, without him knowing exactly if or when we'll be going. We told The Bug about the cruise, but she's in on keeping the secret from Squeaker, who we'll tell when we head out to a hotel near the airport for the night before leaving for Orlando.
