Hey fellas - sorry to go off topic, I have an actual Disney question. During the first few days of our August vacation, we'll need to rent a car. Previously, we either drove, relied on Magical Express, or had DW's parents pick us up if we were going to their place before or after our WDW vacation. Well, with the addition of Ryder, we no longer fit in their Explorer. (Ok, technically we didn't really fit before, but there's no way two of us will fit in the cargo area with all of our stuff while the kids enjoy the "seatbelts") So, we fly in late on Friday, Aug 17th and will be heading to the in-law's place in Lakeland for the weekend. We'll do Legoland on Monday, then head over to the Boardwalk to get checked in for the WDW portion of the stay. So I'll need to get a car (with room for 2 adults, 2 booster seats and a car seat) on Friday at the airport and ideally return it somewhere on or near Disney property on Monday evening. Any ideas or suggestions that won't break the bank?

We did something similar last summer. We picked up a convertible from National that I got a great rate on by using the Emerald Club and a discount code I got from another site (something to do with mouse savers). We used it for 3 days and returned to the Car Care Center near the entrance to MK.

CRUD!

That is all...

I thought there was more.

I am staring at our fireplace... scheming to reface it. I was in lowe's the other day and I saw they had faux stone material that I think would look nice. There appears to be two layers of brick, wondering how difficult it will be to remove the outer layer of bricks.

but that's for another day... for now, it appears time to put up the pool, dig out the air conditioners, rinse out all the filters, and repair some screen windows.

I'm tired just reading all that.

He scheduled a conference call for 9 am this morning between 2 of us from this office, 2 people from the corporate office and someone with the company who is selling us the system we're installing. We called the individuals from our corporate office at around 9:30 and asked them if they were initiating this call or what. They told us they had forgotten about it, but he never gave them any phone numbers or told them what this conference call was even supposed to be about (sounds vaguely familiar)... so long story short, no conference call. Nobody even knows what we were supposed to discuss with whom. And he spent most of the week last week organizing this call.:lmao::rotfl2:
:

Are you in the next office?

Looks like I picked the right day to dress up for work. Had a photo op with the Premier and a senior Cabinet Minister this morning so I thought I should look pretty. No sooner had I got to the office that a reporter called wanting to do a piece on the terrible physical activity report card that was released for Canada's youth this morning.

I hope I sounded as good as I look! :rotfl:

Impressive.

Working at work sucks!!!!

If only we knew someone who controlled the universe and could get us some lotto winnings.

)

I read that. Didn't they blame bath salts?

So my DW pulls out a movie for us to watch the other night. Warrior. Okay movie, better if you enjoy MMA fighting. But got us talking about an AWESOME movie, Warriors (1982, about the gang trying to fight their way back to Coney Island). Anyone else remember it? Seems like more of a NY area movie, since only NY/NJ/CT people commented on my FB post on it. How about out of area guys? Anyone else remember this movie as fondly?

Never heard of it.

Inconceivable! How could anyone from "our generation" not have seen this movie? (OK, so it was a cult classic, but I digress).

I was 9. Free Speech isn't alive in KY. In my adult lifetime, my city blocked the movies at the theatre from showing Showgirls for too much nudity and Golden Compass because it promoted atheism. I did see Showgirls, and while it was a terrible movie, I did not think there was too much nudity. I never saw the other so I don't know if that is true.

I've got plenty of ideas, but I just can't seem to find anything that meets that "won't break the bank" criteria. Sorry.

Good luck! :thumbsup2

I've got nothing significant to offer, but from watching the Bourne movies, it looks fairly simple to walk through a parking garage, use your elbow to bash in a window and then hotwire an appropriate sized vehicle.

Typically that is frowned upon by DWs and the authorities, however.

I second using National. They also have a drop-off right at the Swan hotel. We were checking into BWV at the time, so I drove DW over to BWV and dropped off the luggage... drove the car over to the Swan, then walked back with DD. She loved walking through the lobby of the Swan :)

Make sure you join the Emerald Club if you use them! This allows you to bypass the check in counter :thumbsup2

Well, I guess technically I was 9 as well when it was released to theaters. My memories were from a few years later (circa 1990) when I was working at the video store.

I'm not familiar with Golden Compass either.

I'm in the process of reviewing this shooting and I keep having the Walking Dead trailer playing in the back of my mind:lmao:

I am sure you have to go through it Fed but what is to review? I admit I am a lily livered liberal but the guy was naked biting some guys face off. I imagine it goes something like this, "The suspect was naked chewing on the second person's face. I told him to stop. He didn't so I fired. He still didn't stop so I emptied my clip." Case closed.

I thought it already had? :confused3

Guess it is out now. We tried to keep it quiet for a while so not to scare off the tourists.

Never heard of it.

Haven't either.

Barry, I think your best bet is National and drop it off at the Swan. Never rented a car in Orlando but use Enterprise when I need one. I assume they will pick you up at the hotel to take the car back.

Going to run to get something to eat. Must have Brains! Actually I think it will be burritos.

Can there be too much nudity? I guess that's the question Game of Thrones is trying to answer...

I thought the issue with Golden Compass was it was Anti-Catholic church? Plus it promoted gnosticism (that there is secret knowledge that the church is keeping from us). But clearly, I spent too much time with the Jesuits!

You are correct, but it has atheism in it as well. Its more Anti-Christian as a whole rather than anti-Catholic. We were just the only ones who complained LOUDLY about it :thumbsup2

Thanks for clarifying! :thumbsup2

For all of you Tech gods here on the DIS, how do I get two seperate tickers side by side? When I added my cruise one it "kicked out" the September trip ticker.

Thanks!!

A lot of rental car companies will have good deals closer to your travel dates as they try and get rid of inventory. I think I read somewhere that you can get good deals from 2 months in.

They'll also try and up-sell you at the counter, but you should resist that. Then many of them will allow you to pick any car in the row anyway, even if it's a bigger size than what you paid for. Can't always count on that, though.

I've got nothing significant to offer, but from watching the Bourne movies, it looks fairly simple to walk through a parking garage, use your elbow to bash in a window and then hotwire an appropriate sized vehicle.

I had trouble with that too, so I went with the rotating banner.

Genius. Will I still have to get my own insurance? I guess I could call safe auto with the other hand while I break the window.

There can never be too much nudity. Well, yes there can if it involves men. Than, any nudity is too much. I never saw Golden Compass but I know our town protested it. We are 100% Christian town - no other religions allowed.

No problem, just have way too much worthless information stored in the memory banks :lmao:

And that is what makes you such a great nemesis.

Not a tech guru, but I remember that there is a limit to how much you can include in your signature, including names, smilies, hyperlinks, etc.

Pouring outside but decided to go to the mailbox anyway. Was rewarded when in the mail was this...

Our 4 day park hoppers for Disneyland. Bought them the day before the price increase. The calendar is not spinning fast enough.
