It's other motives. Since we are a small county, we can only field one select team at each age group. They brought in the select competitive team to beat up on the rec teams, but after 2 seasons, I was able to convince the board to not permit that. So, their new strategy is to build the 1 select, travel competitive team, and trick other parents into signing their kids to to play against them. Same at middle school. The teams were dissolved to force parents to sign up for competitive teams. Middle school teams had no cut, minimum playing time guarantees. Select does not. A few of the individuals running the program have their own children in it, which of course, what this is all about.
Same down here. Big fight over Girl's Lacrosse. The Club teams wanted to keep it out of the High Schools. Finally lost that fight this year and three new teams formed (my DD's HS was one) to add to the private schools that already had teams. Problem was that the other teams had girls that were part of club teams while DD's school did not. They got creamed every game because at the start of the season, none of them knew what a lacrosse stick was, let alone played. They learned a lot this year and stuck together as a team. Her coach told me that DD was the main reason they kept it together despite losing. They will be better next year but unfortunately she will be in college. Wish they had a team her Freshman year.
Today is BBQ day. Ribs are getting ready to be placed on the grill, will soon be putting the potatoes and eggs on for potato salad and the corn will be soaking is sugar water before they are grilled. Good timing because the chicken I made on Friday is gone.
We have some sports that have managed to have club seasons seperate from the school season and that has helped a bit.
Corn soaking in sugar water? Never heard of that before.
The Clubs have adapted. It didn't make sense, the more kids that play in school, the more kids will want to play on a club team. If the kid wasn't going to college she would probably play on a club team this summer.
Heard it from some BBQ book guy. You peal back the husks but don't remove and let them sit in water with sugar and salt. The kernels soak it up and makes the corn sweeter and tastier. Place the husks back and put them on the grill. Don't know if it really works but the corn always comes out pretty good so I do it. Plus with the husks soaked, less chance of singeing the corn.

We have some clubs that work very well with the school teams but we have others that think they are running pro teams and do everything they can to sabotage the schools. On the other hand our high school athletic association has been an old-boys club for a long time and hasn't been open to change. My job is with the provincial sport federation and I get stuck in the middle trying to get them all to see the bigger picture and operate in a way that will achieve everyone's objectives.
Back to the corn - I have soaked it in the water before but never in sugar water. How much sugar do you use?

Gotta love long weekend TV programming, usually marathons of good movies. Torn between Star Wars or Indy (going with Indy, even if I saw half of Temple last night already)
Doctah Jones!
Where have you been cooking? I learned that from my grandmother in Iowa back in the '60's. It makes the corn extremely sweet. I even use sugar when boiling frozen corn on the cob.
CJ- Do you grill your corn still in husks, or do you throw them straight on grill? Sorry, I see you answered already. I have done it both ways and when I use a lower heat I think they come out better straight on the grill no husks. Remind me if I ever get out to see you we need to do some serious BBQing.

Unfortunately that does happen in many places. What these people fail to realize is that it may be successful in the short term, the long term is going to suffer. It also has implications in other parts of society in terms of health and social costs.

Once it gets too complicated, is it really worth it? Just for fun, after two trips of non-dining plan, I added up how much we spent on meals. I forget th exact numbers, but we spent the same amount minus some snack credits. So, I guess if you consider $2.50 a water bottle, then we could have saved $50 on the DP. But, our meals also included where and what we wanted - share appetizer, main course, sharre dessert (or dessert in park later), and a beer or wine at dinner. And, I didn't have to keep up with DP restaurants or credits or anything like that.
As for th AP, we have considered it, but we really enjoy having a day at the parks and a day at the resort. Plus, we just buy the MNSSHP ticket in October without a theme park ticket that day.
Hey Brian! (middlepat)

I think as long as you have one post in the DDC, you've been around long enough to say stuff like that about me.Yeah, but, nobody likes you.
(here's hoping i've been around long enough to jest, and have it taken as such.)
Good to see you around Mike! Continued prayers for you and DW!I start my staycation today so I figured it's time to get a post in on this thread. Not much going on here. My DW is still trying to recover from her tumor surgery and radiation; it's not going real well. I had the opportunity to see my son perform with the Blue Angels last weekend at Joint Base Andrews in MD (my older son went with me). I reach 25 years of service with my company on June 1st; no extra vacation week with that one.
The grandkids are great, which is a real blessing!
That's about it. I hope everyone here is doing well and getting ready for a great summer!
Egads! It looks like I have staycation ownage! Hard to believe!
Dis Dad Meet! Whoo!We got to meet up with my nemesis, David, aka theduck, and his family. I would say that he's the ugly one, but that wouldn't help clarify anything.
I have a better way to get back at them. Transfer your reservation and airfare to someone else. Probably someone with a newborn that will cry and scream all the time. That will show them. I'll see if I can find anyone that fits that description for you.Thinking about canceling our Aluani trip. Called today to reserve an excursion, spa treatments for the kid and a private cabana. Guess what? The cabanas are sold out for the whole trip. They suggested I keep calling back. That was the one perk I was looking forward to. To spite them, I might not even go.

Nope. That's the Tomorrowland Indy Speedway. It says so right on the sign when you leave.Nah, Indy is the greatest spectacle in racing. Charlotte is a great race and I always look forward to that one too, but today is all about the Indy cars.
