On the subject of infants and respiratory failure....been through that myself.

As a matter of fact, we almost lost my son as an infant due to this. He had been crying a lot and very fussy, but wasn't spitting up or anyting. The pediatrician we saw (at the time) told us he had Acid Reflux and that we needed to have X rays to determine if he had a "soft tissue obstruction". So we had X rays--nothing of the sort. So then she says, yup, definitely reflux.

Little guy continued to cry all day, no sleeping, wouldn't eat, then got very lethargic. I was packing to leave for a training course when I noticed him turning blue and struggling. I grabbed him up and couldn't tell if he was breathing or not, so I started doing infant CPR and told my wife to call 911. I got him slowly "coming around" about the time the first Fire/Rescue truck arrived. Fire department EMT's recognized my address and didn't even slow down at the front door, nor fool with a stretcher.

They grabbed him, put him on Oxygen and whisked him out the door and took off for the helo take off point....Air asset was already enroute.

G man was airlifted to Wolfson's Children Hospital in Jacksonville where he spent the next three weeks in neonatal.

Lots of sleepless nights---and I was supposed to start a new job the next day---that didn't happen.

We eventually found out he had a sever respiratory infection, but we have had no real problems since, though we put him on Xopenex (sp?) at the first sign of trouble for a couple of years.

Now, he's just a normal rambunctious three (almost four) year old and shows no signs of asthma or anything...

We got a new pediatrician post haste....

Just got off the phone to member services and we are booked in a 1BR Ocean View room at Aluani. Cost a billion points but this is probably the only time I will make it to Hawaii. So should I pack now?

Need to now get on the phone with the Diving TA to see about an add on dive vacation to the trip.

Man, lots of scary stories here. My daughter and I both suffer from asthma due to allergies, so we do the albuterol thing as well. Breathing is underrated.

There we go - now, we're booking a vacation for our friends for a 4 night Bahamanian cruise on DCL and we have a question about transportation. We have a lot of family in the area and are probably going to drive to FL before our trip. That said, is there somewhere that we can do long term parking @ Port Canaveral or do we need to have someone drop us off?

Congrats on the upcoming cruise. You may already have everything figured out but… if you’re interested, you may be able to learn a good bit about DCL cruising from my current TR. You can get there via the link in my Sig and you don’t need to read the whole thing. Fed and everyone that had to deal with respiratory illnesses with the kids. Wow. Really glad I never had to go through that.

Not even going to try and catch up right now. Late breakfast with Lilo & Stich, then checked out the gingerbread house at the Grand Floridian. Back to the hotel for a bit of "rest" (aka building a fort out of pillows and ponchos) before heading to MK for the Christmas party. Brought the son back after Wishes, and DS was out and in the stroller, so DW kept her.

Tomorrow is AK in the morning, Epcot by noon, and then the adults in our group are hiring a Fairy Godmother and heading off to Jiko. (ANd probably coming back eventually.)

Rough day today. Felt the wrath of a 2 year old. MVMCP was awesome even though we did almost everything the opposite way it should be done. ToMorrow well let Landon decidr what were doing since he pretty much did that today anyway. Laid back day was planed and is needed. Good night from wilderness lodge!

Done. Finished with a few things in the Keys. Put away the pepper spray, mace, taser and riot gear until next year's shopping season. We still need to get stuff for DD's Aunt and Grandmother but that is up to her. I only play the bank in those.

Glad to hear you still were able to get in at the 7 month mark! And ocean view no less....better do it up right if it's the only time you're going to go there!

This is probably a once in a life time trip so I figured why not.

My DS16 is graduating this summer too (as a Junior)...wanna take him.

PS...I triple dog dare you to take all her friends and send them to look for Ice.

Good for your son. She already tried the "Can I bring a friend" thing. My response? "Sure they just need to pony up for the air fare and incidentals." So far no takers.

Very cool… I’ve herd the name, but haven’t had the opportunity to meet her directly. It’s all the teacher in the organization that got the kids up there, and as proud as we are of the young’ens… we’re honored to have such a great teaching corp.

Last Wednesday I mentioned that there was a mouse in the house. Here's the update. While I was at work last Weds, my mother-in-law took it upon herself to go around/under the house and seal up any possible entry points. Then my father-in-law placed a few poison cube things under and in the house (out of reach from children). I set up some traps (using the peanut butter and chocolate combo one of you suggested) for a few nights after that to see if we still had a problem. No dead mice so we thought that was the end of the story. After finding more mouse poop we got nervous so I set up the traps again Monday night. I was awoken at 6 am this morning by my screaming wife who had found a dead mouse in the trap. Brave Hero (me) got rid of it. All in all, an eventful morning. To reward me, she made pancakes- Mickey pancakes.
Not sure if they found another hole in our house or if we just sealed in the mice that were already here. I'll be setting up more traps tonight. I think the wife is this close to getting a cat.

I see that a lot of y’all have had some fairly severe problems with kids and asthma. Sorry to hear that, but I’m glad that all are doing well despite the complications.

We’ve been very lucky I guess. Our DS is pretty dang healthy and rarely even gets a cold much less something severe. His only “condition” is color blindness… but that’s really only an inconvenience (it will prevent him from being able to pilot a US military fighter jet, but his passion is music anyway so no worries there ).

We haven’t even started. If I had my way… we wouldn’t start either, but that’s unlikely. No one amongst my collection of kit and kin really, needs anything, but I’m the only one that has publically said that I don’t really want anything. I’ve said that for years now, but no one listens. To me the point of the winter holidays is getting all the family together and sharing time, memories and some good food. That’s plenty, but if I were to listen to Madison Ave… at’s also apparently Un-American.

Went to doc yesterday afternoon and he intially wanted to wait things out more...until I gave him one of these....then he decided that we needed to set me up to have it removed. It has been over three weeks now and I dont think it is going to go anywhere on its own free will and accord ...They have not called with a date yet but I am sure that he will set it up so he can make me wait longer and have the last laugh!

Are you still on drugs for the pain? I was introduced to the wonderful world of kidney stones a few months ago. I literally thought I was dying, but I'm sure I don't need to tell you that. I hope they go get it soon.

I feel bad for anyone suffering with one of those for that long!

Hope he gets it setup for you quickly. Tell him you need to get the procedure on this year's health insurance deductible. That usually works this time of year to get it done sooner!

yeah I am still taking pain meds from time to time. I am trying to only take them when I feel like it is going to get out of control. I don't even want to think about how bad it was last week when we went to the ER for the second time...Makes me shudder to just imagine!!

Wow - that's quite a scare.

I had asthma pretty bad as a kid - until about the age of 10.

Then it went away, and stayed away for many years. About 4 or 5 years ago it reared it's ugly head again. Not quite as bad as it used to be, but enough to get back on puffers.
