DDA's New Year's Weight Loss accountability Thread

Can I just jump aboard? With two months to go until WDW, I'm needing to lose weight and build some endurance (so my boys are not having to drag me around the park by the hair since I can't keep up  ). Started last week with my own combo: I count points per Weight Watchers and I also do my Richard Simmons Broadway tapes. I can't stand Richard's meal plans and don't like WW's workouts, so gotta combine. Last time I did the combo, I lost almost 50 pounds...but over the last couple years, a few of those have found their way back home :confused3 .

Best wishes to all on here! Hope we ALL get where we want to be! :woohoo:

:welcome:

GLYNIS--thats great news!! congrats to you....

I tried curves last year--i didnt get much from it at all, but i have met people who had great results..

ive been doing pretty bad with exercising, but good with eating..im planning on starting to work out again tomorrow--i am getting frustrated..in the past, i get frustrated, and then stop working on losing the weight, so im trying not to get to that point

I can so sympathize with the frustration thing. I've been unable to do much walking this week, and that frustrates me because the longer I go without doing it, the easier it is to stop altogether. I did get to walk for about 20 minutes this morning. Felt awfully good, too. Just keep it up Jen. You'll be glad you did!

Welcome to our group! Jump in and we'll all support you! Good luck with the combo program. I love the Richard Simmon's workout tapes.

Ok, everyone. I need some encouragement. I had a really bad day, yesterday! It doesn't help that I'm PMS'ing big time! I had fried chicken strips for lunch yesterday. At least I only ate one, but I'm supposed to avoid fried foods. Boy was I hurting last night. Guess I found out what "dumping syndrome" really is. I had stomach cramps from Hades!!!

Another discouraging thing is that because of the PMS, I plateau for almost one full week. It's discouraging that I've done so well with the food thing (except yesterday's lunch) and I haven't seen any results on the scale. I know it will come off once this week is over, but it is so discouraging!

Just needed to vent! Thanks for listening.

Glynis -- I am going to quote you from an earlier post on this one... I changed the stress points to match your feelings :goodvibes

"Don't be so hard on yourself! Get through your period, and just pick up where you left off. The important thing is just to do something, no matter how small. You have an entire family here behind you ready to cheer you on! Just tell yourself, I can do anything for 15 minutes, and you will be able to! I believe in you!"

YOU are an inspritation to all of us... :thumbsup2

Thanks! The reason I stick to Richard Simmon's tapes (and I'm on my 3rd set of the Broadway tapes since they keep breaking!) is that he always has some rather large ladies participating in his work outs. I figure if those big girls can keep up without a heartattack in the middle of the tape, I can too! He's so odd himself, but I think he has a good heart.

I bought a new Toning one of his a few weeks ago and did it yesterday, so now I'm a little sore all over...good stuff!

My son (10) has started working out w/me so hopefully we can keep eachother on track!

Glynis- I understand! My thoughts are w/ya...just survive this week and all will be better for about 3-4 weeks! ::yes::

Good luck all and thanks for the warm welcome!

Thanks. I needed that! Where's Princess Nancy with her kick in the rear when you need her? I'm bound and determined to do better eating wise today. Just wish me luck since I'm traveling this weekend, and that's always tough.

Glynis -- I am also traveling this weekend. When we both get back we will do some mutual rear kicking, OK? IF we need it! Travel safe.

I need some encouragement! I've been sick with a sinus infection for over two weeks now. I had almost kicked it, then got sick again. Just back from the doctor this morning, and starting a different antibiotic. I haven't felt like exercising at all, but am not beating myself up about that. I don't really feel like eating, so I'm not snacking between meals, which is something I struggle with. My problem is nothing tastes good, so I crave things I would never let myself eat. I'm not eating quanitity, I'm eating total FAT. CHEESE is what I'm craving, and I had nachos from Dairy Queen Saturday night (love that day-glow cheese) and an entire bowl of queso with chips (1/2 for lunch, 1/2 for dinner) yesterday.

Instead of treating this like an opportunity to kick-start the weight I want to lose, I'm wasting it.

Help!

I can totally understand. I have eaten nothing but cr@p myself since I got sick 9 days ago. I also had the sinus infection and while not being very hungry I craved bad/offlimit foods. I went off my diet which I had not cheated on for over 20 days. I am starting to feel better now and really need to get back on track. If you are still suffering from the sinus infection then remember that getting nourishment in even if not the best quality will give you the strength to get through the pain. Sinus infections are very unpleasant and the recovery takes a long time with lots of unpleasant sucretions that will definately kill an appetite. First and foremost get yourself well then worry about your diet and exercise. I know that a nap was definately on my list well above exercise.

Cheers & encouragement to all of us working so hard trying to loose weight & excercise.
Tomorrow is my weigh-in day & I haven't done that great this week so I might be up instead of down :sad2: (after hosting a dinner party) but I know I can do it!!!! Just got to stay on track.

Come on guys- we can do this. Take it easy on yourselves. When you're sick you need to pamper yoursleves- no biggie! Just get thorugh and get back on track when you are feeling better. It's not like you'll be eating this way eternally.

I have finally started on my Nutrisystems food today. So far, so good, but it is only day one! I'm hoping with all hopes that my blood sugar readings will come down quickly. Thye've been very high. I'll start walking pretty soon as well, but wan to meet with my Dr. and a personal trainer first. When that Happens- I'll let y'all know.

Karen -- are you doing the "Take the Weekends Off" NutriSystem plan or the regular one? I started week 3 today and am glad to say I have taken off 10.2 lbs. This includes a traveling weekend with every single meal eaten out. I actually lost weight while I was away, just by following the guidelines in the Meal Planner Guide that comes with my Plan. ope you find it to be as wonderful a fit for you as I have.

For you sickies... Eat what tastes good and keeps you healthy! Worry about the weight and the exercise after you are back to normal.

Good advice! I have been feeling down, as I haven't done as well this week (and last) as I have in the past. However, I stuck with my eating plan and with my exercise, and I feel wonderful about myself! I may not lose much weight this weigh in period, but I know I've done the best I can, and I can't do any more than that!

Good luck with your blood sugar! Let us know what your dr. says. I went to my doctor (GP) last week for the first time since the surgery, and he didn't even recognize me. He was so pleased with my blood pressure, heart rate, etc. He was thrilled with my exercise plan (thanks for that) and so encouraging about the half marathon! He is watching my diet, making sure I eat enough vegetables. He warned me against eating strictly protein as that can cause you to lose weight but to also destroy muscles. Since I'm eating about 50% protein and 50% veggies, he was happy with that!

I think I'm on track with my walking. I'm starting to feel really happy with the increase of pace that I am doing. I'm increasing slowly, and am now up to doing a mile in 21 minutes. I should be able to comfortably shave off the time I need to in the next 10 months. I'm also increasing the time I walk per day in order to maintain the pace that I've set.

Anyway, that's where I am today. I'll weigh in tomorrow and hopefully see a change. If not, that's ok, I'll just keep plugging on! Have a great day people!

Elin- 10.5 lbs is FANTASTIC!!! WOW! Good for you girlie! Have you found the food to be getting old? Or is there enough change up? What's been you're favorite food on the plan? I'm doing the weekend off Nutrisystems as well. Yesterday I did very well. I did have cravings to eat something- but did well sticking to the plan. The food is ok- not great, but edible. WHat makes it good is that you can add veggies, crackers etc. to whatever your entree is for the day. I had the beef and pasta- it was ok- too much sauce really for my taste, and then for dinner I had the chili- I liked the chili. I think I'm gonna list what I like and maybe order food individually next time. I don't know- I'll have to see. Taste buds change a lot in a month!! I lost 1.2 lbs. yesterday and my blood sugar this morning was 167- down from 187 the day before. While both of those numbers are too high for a fasting blood sugar- a 20 pt drop overnight is fantastic! I'm hoping to continue to see that happen.

Glynis- Sorry to hear you're feeling down. But you've done so well with your weight loss it'sbound to slow down some don't you think? Plus, because you are walking you're building muscle- muscle weighs more then fat, so your weight loss will be slower. But you'll look better because you're firming things up ! I have told myslef that I'm not concerned about the number so much as I am concerned about how I look. I think the more you train for the half, the more you'll believe that. You'll begin to feel so healthy... you're weight number won't really matter to you. I was at my GP yetserday and told her I was going to meet with the surgeon on the 13th. SHe really didn't say anything, but she does know I've had real problems with my blood sugar and that even my endcronologist suggested I ahve this surgery as it would be the only way this weight would come off. I guess once diabetes has set in, it's next to impossible to lose weight.
Your walking sounds like it's progressing really nicely- isn't it amazing how our bodies can adapt so quickly to a healthy change???

Disneygrl36- how did your weigh in go?? I just noticed you are a new DVC member! CONGRTAS!! Were did you buy?

Please let me know how the meeting with the surgeon goes. I've come to the conclusion that a lot of doctor's don't really understand the whole gastric bypass surgery. Most doctor's feel that ANYONE can lose weight if they just apply themselves. However, that's simply not the case. Don't let your GP make you feel badly for choosing this surgery! I feel that it was the best thing in the world I have done for myself!

Karen -- I have enjoyed all the entrees so far. Cannot think which might be a favorite, but I think there is plenty of variety to help out the monotony that could possibly set in. I figure I can handle it for a dew months, anyway. I love being able to supplement twith various fruits and veggies and salad greens too. That makes each meal more flavorsome.

Glynis -- When I was in PA this past weekend I thought of you! We had all gone out to dinner (more about that later) and my sister kept looking at a table of people who were sitting across from ours. Finally the gentleman at the table looked and her and said, "Alison?" Turns out it was a friend of my BIL whom they had known for probably 25 years. Ther reason that she was not certain that it was him was because she could not really recognize him. Turns out he had gastric bypass surgery two years ago and lost 168 pounds! And he has kept it off. I thought I woud pass that along to you since you said you had been feeling a little low and were being hard on yourself. He looked fantastic and so will you!

Speaking of dinner out... I knew that I would do OK since NutriSystem is pretty specific about what you can eat when you go out to eat. Lots of choices, but very specific about amounts. So, on Friday night we went to Red Lobster and I had Tilapia baked in a parchment bag on a bed of veggies. It was delicious. Add a salad to that and I was a happy camper! Saturday night was amazing though. We went to an Italian restaurant and I knew that I could have pasta as long as I was careful about the portions. so I was all prepared to order pasta with red sauce or marinara and a meatball and a to-go box. The menu included a mini menu for low fat, diet conscious eaters so I decided to be brave and try something on there. I had Shrimp Scampi Tuscany Style. This was 6 shrimp, quickly sauteed in olive oil with fresh garlic, set on a bed of shredded veggies (zucchini, yellow squash, carrots and sphagetti squash) and topped with a fresh marinara sauce. OMG -- this was AMAZING! I am telling you, I could not tell the difference between the veggies and pasta! I am planning to make this for my DH and I next weekend. He tried the veggies and agreed that they were delicious too. They were also flash pan fried, not blanced or boiled. The chef told us he uses less than a tablespoon of olive oil total to do the shrimp and the veggies. Anyway, I thought Iwould pass along that "recipe" because it is fast and easy to do and can be served with chicken, or beef or any other meat you might like to try. Yummy!

Elin, that recipe sounds so delicious! I'm tucking it away for future use. I am feeling a lot better about things tonight. I've done well all day long, and am looking forward to my meal of Tilapia and spinach tonight. Don't know if the kids will like it, but if they don't, they know where the peanut butter is
:lmao: . I told DH the other day that I'm tired of cooking 2 meals; one for us and one for the kids. They can either eat healthy like we are, or they can make their own PB&J's. Hopefully they'll soon get used to the fact that we are not going to be eating out much anymore. We'll see!

Well, I was up 1.5lbs at tonights weigh in. I was thinking I had probably gained, as I wasn't as good this week as I have been being. Nose back to the grind stone tomorrow though.
I can do it. I can do it. I can do it. :cool1:

Karebare1...we bought HHI pts. We had our first trip home in Januaray when my husband did the 1/2 marathon. We stayed at the Boardwalk & Vero Beach & it was great!!!! I looked at the DVC when it was first getting started & wasn't able to afford it then & have been dreaming of it since. It is nice to have that dream realized. :cheer2:
