DDA's New Year's Weight Loss accountability Thread

Nancy. We have had illness in our house for over a week now. First the baby, then me and now my older son is coming down with a nasty cold. My glands are swollen and it hurts to swallow. I'm pretty sure it's just viral, but it sure likes to hang around. I finally gave up on the diet yesterday as all I wanted was chicken noodle soup. I have indulged in junk food and soup for 2 days now. I know that I need to get back on track, but I really need to get over this virus first. It has really worn me down. I hope that your family has a quick recovery and that you regain your weightloss momentum.

Nancy and Deb and anyone else who needs some encouragement:

Don't stress out over not being perfect! You guys are amazing! Nancy, to throw out all that food is just remarkable! I don't know if I would have had the willpower. What a great example to your family!

Deb, when you are sick, all bets are off! You need to take care of your body and help it fight the virus. Once you feel better, we'll be here to stand behind you and cheer you on! :cheer2: We all have those moments when we think, oh well, I tried and failed. I don't believe there's such a thing as failure in this venture. We just keep on keeping one. That's all we can do!

And if you need help, I can Jiminy Cricket for anyone who needs it, as long as you do the same for me!

By the way, I've found the best low carb snack! I found them at Target on the pickle aisle, Tillen Farms Pickled Crispy Dilly Beans! I'm in love, seriously! They are fat free, 15 calories per 1/4 cup, 3 grams of carbs per 1/4 cup. They are crunchy and very fulfilling! I'm in heaven!

Have a great week DDA'ers.

nancy-good for you for throwing out that food--out of sight, out of mind!

deb-hope you feel better! make sure you take care of yourself before you worry about getting back on track..

glynis--dont u love when u find "good" food?!

OK guys! I finally got my nutrisystems food in the mail yesterday. I'm trying to decide whether or not to strat today or on Monday. But I'm leaning towards Monday because I have no food in the house ( need veggies etc).

For anyone on Nutrisystems..... any hints on how to handle the first day??? I'm a little worried I'll be mentally starving- ya know... my body is fine, but my head is telling me I need somethign else?!??!

My weight is holding steady, but I am very afraid... Our fridge just died and the repairman won't be able to come until Friday! We'd been cutting back on eating out (once a week instead of almost twice a day), but I think we'll be going back to our old bad dining-out habits this week.

To further jeopardize my progress, I have a solo road trip to a baby shower in New Jersey this weekend.

The good news is I booked a hotel with an indoor pool for my halfway-there stop and I absolutely WILL swim while I'm there. It's rare that I get to go swimming without my kids, so I'm really looking forward to it. (How many laps will it take to counteract the inactivity of sitting in the car for 2 days and eating convenience foods????)

I'm not doing Nutrisystems, but here's my little trick for you. Stock up on sugarless gum. I'll pop one in my mouth for a mid-morning pick me up and to fool myself into thinking I'm eating something. It helps keep me from grazing (that and the fact that grazing makes me so full so fast that I throw up).

I know what you mean about the dangers of traveling. Used to be I couldn't go anywhere without a bag of chips or a box of crackers to "keep me awake." Since my surgery here's what I do: I fix baggies of some of the snacks that I CAN have; jerky, pickles, baby carrots with a low cal dip, etc. You could also pack some fruit; grapes, apples, orange slices, whatever kind of fruit you like.

Good luck! I know you'll do well. Just do the best you can! We're here to cheer you on, no matter what! :cheer2:

Karen -- I have been on the NutriSystems "Take the Weekends Off" for a little over a week now. I can tell you that I have never once felt deprived or craved anything. I will admit that with no kids left at home, it is probably easier for me since I do not have to prepare food for my DH. But I have felt filled and content with the foods and have liked everything that came in the HUGE box with the exception of the soy chips

I made it through the weekend using thie handy-dandy guide without a problem too. I, for one, am absolutely delighted with my decicion to give NutriSystem a try. It has been a positive experience for me so far! I am losing weight and not feeling like I am having to give up anything.

Wow, Glynis. You are doing great!!!!!!! :thumbsup2

Today was my weigh-in day. I lost 1lb this week. That's 18.5total. I hope I make it 20 next week.

I am trying Curves out tomorrow after work. Anyone have anything to offer about Curves????

Well - I decided to forego the weigh in this week - after being on the road this weekend I know that I did not eat well - so I decided that I would not discourage myself by doing an official weigh in - although I did check this morning and I only gained a pound! Considering how I ate this week - I am very happy with that and hope to get back on track now!!

Congratulations glynis!!!

Gllynis - that's fantastic - WTG you beautiful you!!! You have such a wonderful, postive spirit - I appreciate your motivation - THANK YOU!!

I also have fallen by the wayside - literally and figuratively - sprained my ankle, havent exercised, then ate on the trip - I hate this body, and like someone posted above, my mind is doing the most damage on me!!

per Curves - I tried it... be aware that you are signing a contract, and they automatically deduct from your checking account. I fell into "something is better than nothing" but for me, I didnt get anything out of it...

just was told to get to my station... gotta run!!

Don't be so hard on yourself! Heal your ankle, and just pick up where you left off. The important thing is just to do something, no matter how small. You have an entire family here behind you ready to cheer you on! :cheer2: Just tell yourself, I can do anything for 15 minutes, and you will be able to! I believe in you!

Can I just jump aboard? With two months to go until WDW, I'm needing to lose weight and build some endurance (so my boys are not having to drag me around the park by the hair since I can't keep up  ). Started last week with my own combo: I count points per Weight Watchers and I also do my Richard Simmons Broadway tapes. I can't stand Richard's meal plans and don't like WW's workouts, so gotta combine. Last time I did the combo, I lost almost 50 pounds...but over the last couple years, a few of those have found their way back home :confused3 .

Best wishes to all on here! Hope we ALL get where we want to be! :woohoo:

Hey everyone! I don't check in here often, but I really am working out! Not paying much attention to eating, so the weight is hardly coming off.... but working out 5 days/week consistently, so I'm happy enough!

Today was my light day for training. I was only supposed to walk 20:00 at a stroll (although, I must admit -- I have NEVER done the stroll part.... seems to take too long, although OBVIOUSLY the 20:00 mark comes at exactly 20:00 without fail  ). Well, I decided I was bored, so I thought 'I'll just run a mile and then walk the rest of the time. It won't take long but it will break things up a bit". Wouldn't you know, it took close to 14:30?! I was shocked. AND I needed my inhaler for the first time in ages. I freaked out for a little bit, mostly because I was comparing it to my high school time which, to speak in generalities, was less than half that time.

But I'm better now. My mom reminded me that I just started working out again 2 weeks ago, I've NEVER consistently walked/ran in the past, even when working out a lot, and that my time AND breathing will improve

So now I'm just looking forward to 6 months from now, when I either run farther in 14 minutes or run a mile in less time..... and I will be shocked at the improvement!

WE CAN DO THIS, ALL OF US! :grouphug:

GLYNIS--thats great news!! congrats to you....

I tried curves last year--i didnt get much from it at all, but i have met people who had great results..

ive been doing pretty bad with exercising, but good with eating..im planning on starting to work out again tomorrow--i am getting frustrated..in the past, i get frustrated, and then stop working on losing the weight, so im trying not to get to that point
