DDA Chapter 9

Just got back from the doctor. The baby's heartbeat sounds perfect, and the doctor said everything looks good. I go in on the 22nd for an ultrasound, unless the blood test comes back positive for something. If that's the case, they'll send me to the high risk ultrasound doctor. I honestly don't think anything will be wrong, though. I just feel really good about this pregnancy lately!

We are planning on taking all the kids with us to the ultrasound. They are so excited about it.

Bernadette-:wizard: that the transition at work isn't as bad as you fear. I love Lizzy's dress.

This is adorable!

I am sorry to hear about your supervisor changing. Yuck. Can you take up golf? ;) I am not good with change, so I know how you feel.

Lizzy's dress is adorable! You are just a terror with that sewing machine these days! Good for you! :thumbsup2

Bernadette cute dress & I love the card holder! :wizard: that to much does no change at work.

I hope you managed to get some sleep. I'm sorry about the change at work, and hopefully it won't be as bad as you think it may be. :wizard:

Sorry, Bernadette. Maybe it won't be as bad as you fear. :wizard:

I'm so sorry. Sending PD to you!

Im sorry to hear that!

love the dress and the card holder

Bernadette - I'm so sorry that your job is feeling icky right now. Here's hoping things smooth out some for you!
Thanks everyone! They still didn't make the announcement formal yet. The VP of Finance "welcomed" me into the department today. I tried to be civil.

Cute story though. Remember the WDW commercial with the baby's first steps. Terra's first trip to WDW was at 13 months. My mom joked that maybe she'd walk to Mickey for the first time. A couple of months later Mom and Rachel came to visit and we went to DL. Terra had actually walked once the day before, but when we got to DL she took off to Tigger.
How cute! Lizzy didn't walk til she was 18 months and she was 19 months when Joe was born. She wouldn't walk holding our hand so I finally got her a stand behind walker and she was walking in 2 weeks. Emma was at least 15 months old-I think she was afraid to walk with Joe always buzzing around her.

I did it once and really enjoyed it.
I did it once in college.

Up for some fun for the kids and free food? It's almost Cow Appreciation Day!

The kids made costumes last year by putting spots on adult size t-shirts and masks with paper plates. They loved it!

CUTE!!!

LOVING your TR!!!!!! Poor Katie!

Princess and I found some good books at the liberry (much to my dismay she actually pronounces it properly) and then we found some fabulous things at the mall! Chico's is having an awesome sale. Talbot's is having a sort-of sale, and their sizes are picked over, but I found 2 shirts. Macy's is having a sort-of sale, but the stuff I bought wasn't coupon eligible (story of my life) so I may not keep the stuff I bought there. Nordstrom isn't carrying Lauren anymore :headache: so there's another one of my brands that will be harder and harder to find.

I also bought some sandals I have been eying at Nordstrom. I needed something other than Crocs and flip flops for WDW. My Teva sandals blister my baby toe if I am not careful, and my Easy Spirit sneakers made a hot spot on the bottom of my foot last year that took almost the whole week to heal. I didn't even think about how doubling the length of our trip will mean we are all much more likely to have blister issues. :scared:
Sounds like a fun day!

Hi all! I have not heard anything from the Dr. yet, I take that as a good sign that it is nothing serious. I have a feeling I will not hear anything till tomorrow. So for now I am sleeping & just laying around. the pain is not as bad if I do not move around much. Thanks for all the :wizard: As soon as I hear something I will let you all know.

Glynis great start to your trip report. Sorry to hear Katie got sick though
:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: Hope you start feeling better soon!!!!

I'm off to wake up the kids from their naps, so we can head to Kings Island. I probably should have napped too, but hopefully the Coke I just drank will give me a caffeine boost. I know I'll be wide-awake, chasing after Matty, as soon as we get there! :)

Have a great night, DDA! :wave2:
Have fun!

Amy - I bribe her with snacks, and I try not to dilly-dally! :rotfl2: She used to be a really good shopper, but now she's not so tolerant. We were in and out today in under 2 hours.
I was very impressed that she used the big potty at Nordstrom. She's doing GREAT staying dry for me, and she is making progress staying dry for her parents.
WOW!!!! She's doing great!!!!

That's wonderful news, Glynis! :goodvibes I am sure you know this, but those AFP tests aren't terribly accurate. If it comes back funny I certainly wouldn't worry too much!

Yup! Joe's came back high-risk for spina bifida but put his risk for downs very low. The genetic dr wanted me to have an amnio but I wouldn't do it. The ultrasound of Joe's spine looked great. That high AFP can be the result of the cord not planted in the center of the placenta so they started doing weekly non stress tests at 30 weeks to keep an eye on Joe and after he was born it was confirmed that was indeed the case.

Here's what I made last night. Glad we're going to CP twice! DH says it looks like PJs. Lizzy loves it. I'm sure this is the last time I'll get her to wear anything like this so I'm going to enjoy her still being/acting young enough!

Day 2 -

I woke up at 8:30 this morning, and really wanted to turn over and go back to sleep. However, remembering my duty, I forced myself to get up and take a shower. Dorcas woke up while I was in, and I got the girls up and going while she was in the shower. By 9:45 a.m. we were all ready to go.

It was our first chance to see Shelley's house, and boy were we impressed. It is a 4 story house. You come in on the main floor and to the left is a large parlor/family room. To the left is the dining room connected to the kitchen and a half bath. If you go upstairs there is the Master Bedroom and bath, a bedroom for their daughter Katie, and an extra bedroom Shelley uses for quilting, and for her son Adam when he visits (he is attending college here in the states). Up another floor is a bathroom and 2 bedrooms; one for their daughter Madelyn, and one for their son McKay. If you go to the basement there is a laundry room (tiny), a storage room (even tinier), a bedroom for their son Alex (he gave it up for Dorcas and me), a bathroom, a family room (they set up 2 air mattresses here for the girls) and an office for Shelley's husband, Paul. They have a huge backyard that is gorgeous! It is an amazing house!!! They are really lucky that Paul's company is paying for the house rental while they are living there. The company also pays for their car, and gas. Sweet deal considering gas was 15 dollars a litre!!!!!

We had some breakfast at Shelley's and then we were ready to get going. Shelley and Adam were going to spend at least the first part of the day with us. So off we went! First stop was at the tube station to buy a 7 day "oyster" card. It would give us unlimited tube and bus travel for the entire time we would need it. Luckily, the tube stop was a block and a half from their house, and the bus stop was half a block away. Talk about convenient! Luckily, for me, Katie is still considered a child, so she is free with a paying adult. That was a savings of about 45 dollars! We got on the tube and rode to Picadilly circus. We poked around there, found Lillywhite's sporting goods store (My mother's family started the store!), and meandered into Leicester Square. There are a ton of movie theaters there, and it is here where movies premier in London. Shelley's kids have come down quite often and gotten autographs from Toby McGuire, Matt Damon, Cate Blanchett and others. Very cool!!! From there we wandered to Trafalgar Square. It is a beautiful place. It's quite close to the National Gallery. That was our first stop of the day.

Shelley comes here with her kids quite often, as there is no admission fee. It is a great way to see some of the world's greatest paintings. She took us on a quick tour of her favorite paintings. Katie especially loved the Impressionist section. Monet is her absolute favorite artist! As we left, Katie got her first look at Big Ben. She was thrilled, and even more thrilled to know that we are actually going to see it close up on Sunday.

Next stop: Covent Gardens. If you've ever seen "My Fair Lady" you have heard of Covent Gardens. Now, it's not so much a theater, as a marketplace. There are lots of permanent shops, and in the center people set up stalls and sell antiques, homemade items, etc. It's really neat. We stopped in at Thornton's toffee and bought a bunch of stuff there to bring home! I love Thornton's toffee, and was happy to see flavors that I can't get here. We bought blueberry/cranberry toffee, banana toffee, and treacle toffee. For my diabetic mother I bought diabetic vanilla toffee. While we were at Covent Gardens, we decided to get some lunch. There is a Cornish pasty shop there, and the girls were interested to try one. I had a chicken and vegetable pasty, Katie had a traditional (like a beef stew) pasty. Both Dorcas and Marina got a tomato and cheese and onion pasty. We all agreed they were delicious, and the girls declared them the new favorite food. I totally forgot to get any pictures of these, so I'm hopeful that Dorcas did! We were glad to have these warm pasty's, since it was a cool, rainy day.

After lunch, Shelley needed to get home to pick up her two youngest from school. I wanted to get a Paddington Bear for our new Peanut, so Shelley suggested we go to Hamley's toy store. Adam helped Shelley get to the tube stop with all her purchases, then met us at the store. It was AMAZING!!! 6 stories tall with lots of toy demos going on all the time. I found the Paddington Bear I liked most, and Katie found a teddy bear to cuddle at night since her bear, Taffy, needed to be washed after the episode on the plane. Then we explored all 6 floors! It would be easy to spend thousands of dollars here! They make everything look so fun! I did find a boomerang that I think Jacob will love.

We were beginning to wind down, at that point, and decided to head home for a rest before going to see "Gone With the Wind". We made it home, and Shelley had dinner cooking. Smelled wonderful. She let us nap for about an hour and a half, and then we began to get ready for the show. We ate dinner at her house, and then headed for the tube stop and off we went to the play.

The play was ok, but nothing wonderful. It just kind of fell flat! It tried too hard to be the movie, but you could really tell that the Brit's didn't really understand the Civil War. There were way too many songs in the show, and it needed to be trimmed down some. Scarlett was wonderful, as was Rhett, but the rest of the cast didn't live up to them. After the show was over, we got on the tube and came home. We all crashed by 11:30 p.m. feeling very happy with our first day in London.

For some reason, I can't post pictures right now. I'm going to shut everything down, and reboot. Stay tuned for pictures.

CUTE! Kyle and I were just talking last night, wondering where someone would get a cow costume ... especially since "partial cow attire" is only awarded an entree! :teeth:

Erin had a couple of people in actual costumes. Other adults had white trashbags with spots colored on in Sharpie plus a paper plate mask. One guy had medical glove udders blown up and attached. I'd post pics if the faces weren't showing.

That's wonderful news, Glynis! :goodvibes I am sure you know this, but those AFP tests aren't terribly accurate. If it comes back funny I certainly wouldn't worry too much!

I know they aren't too accurate, but I've had them done with all the other kids. Where Alan's sister had a Down's child, and my cousin has one, they really wanted to do it. I've had them done with all my pregnancies, and no positives with any of them. I'm really not worried. Even if we do get a positive, we'll go to the high risk ultrasound doctor and have a 3D ultrasound done that can detect facial anomalies that point to Down's and other problems. I'm not worried about it, though.

:scared:

Get Bodyglide and use it daily on your feet with any of your shoes. Maybe even reapply on your long days. It really does help with prevention of blisters and sore spots.

Glynis great pictures

Thanks, Jen. It's really weird, but I didn't take too many pictures the first day. I'm just not used to being the one who takes the pictures. I did get much better. So, there will be a lot more pictures of the upcoming days.

So I forgot to tell you guys this, So yesterday at the Kutztown Folk Festival I was actually at the tent with Radio Disney. They played songs, did games, trivia and had giveaways for the kids. They had fun and so did I.
Our Girl Scout council has partnered with them for a few different things coming up. We will be having premiere parties with them and the Disney Channel for the Cheetah Girls TV Movie coming out in August. I will be be away for this event, but they will probably have something special on my trip for the movie.

I have to figure out what I need to take with for my training next week. I have very little information about what I need to take or anything. So it may be interesting. Do they not realize I want to know the who, what, when, where, how and why before I go. I guess I will just wing it and hope I have what I need.

Hi everyone! Quick question for ya'll! (I think I know the answer but I gotta make sure...then I'll tell you all the details...)
Who did I book at Disneyland last year??

Bernadette - That toile is precious! I want an outfit like that! :rotfl2:

Glynis - My former employer who had a boy with Down's had a very high AFP result, and they STRONGLY recommended an amnio. She didn't want one. At her ultrasound they didn't see anything wrong, but it wasn't a high level ultrasound. All of his organs are normal - no heart defects so they just assumed he was fine. She went into pre-term labor at 29 weeks, and it was then that they said the baby's leg bones were measuring short and there might be something wrong. When he was born at 33 or 34 weeks the nurses in the delivery room told her he had Down's, but she didn't believe them. They ordered all of the genetic testing, and he really does have Down's.
They told my mom that there was an area of Diva's spine that looked "wide" on the ultrasound but Mom refused an amnio. Diva's spine is completely normal.

Speaking of genetic testing, Mom said the lab doing the genetic testing on her tumor has a program for low-income women to have the costs covered at 100%. But she doesn't trust them. She wants the application sent so she can review it. Want to guess what that means? It means she will sit on that application and NEVER get the results, so the oncologist won't know what the risk of recurrance is. The lady from the genetics lab told Mom IF her recurrence risk was low enough that she might be able to skip chemo. That sounds kind of odd to me. Her node involvement is significant - chemo is DEFINITELY indicated. In fact, her insurance won't cover the test BECAUSE she is node positive. Node positive cancers require chemo. It's all rather confusing. :headache:

Nearby Neversink mountain is on fire and there are 20 firetrucks there. It is so dry here, so I hope they can get it out. We really need rain or this is going to become more and more common.

Very nice! I love the print!
Thanks!

Bernadette I love it. I need to get over my fear and try to make the girls outfits. I am just afraid I will mess up
Did you make the pre-shirred dresses yet? I think a great thing to try would be the Easy Fit Pants on www.youcanmakethis.com I know the $10 seems pricey for a simple pant pattern but the instructions are so super clear and the results so great. It includes size 1 to 10 and doll sizes and you can use if for pants, shorts, capris. I have used it at least 10 times already. It gives you a really good introduction to clothing construction.
