DDA Chapter 7

We'll take some of your temperature off your hands. It is freezing here! There was a frost warning last night, and it's currently 34 degrees. THIS IS MAY, MOTHER NATURE!!! So, if we take about 30 degrees from you, we'll both be around 60. That's pretty pleasant.

It's a deal! Actually, we're getting a storm tonight that will make tomorrow's temperatures plummet to the 60's. That actually sounds pretty good to me! Right now, at 11:41 a.m., our temp. is hovering at 92 degrees. Icky! Luckily, my air conditioner is working!

Ooh, the 5K the day before the Princess half can include daddies and strollers! How cute would it be to have princess-decorated jogger strollers and also do the 5K as a family?! :teeth:

You have to do it!!! That would be so awesome!!!

Thank you.
does it say where we can register?

Not specifically, but I am thinking this is a "tweaked" version of the one they offer every day. I would assume you would register in the lower level of The Land just like the regular Behind the Seeds tour.

Jennifer - here's hoping all goes well with the appointment, and you get to stay home another week. Although, it sounds like the girls want OUT! Good luck with everything! I'll be thinking about you all day long!

No problem! Those are my "go to" desserts, when I just don't have time or energy!

If I lived closer I'd make you my famous lemon bars!

do I live close enough?? :lmao:

Lemon bars are my favorite!! Is that one of the recipes on your site??

Happy Birthday Kyle.

Scraplifting, thanks Deb.

:wizard:
Bernadette how soon do you place your order with Minimus & how did you do the address for PC?
I placed my order on 4/21. It arrived on 4/28. I have had it take longer than 5 business days in the past. I shipped it to:
Name: my name
Company: Disneys Pop Century Resort
Address1: 1050 Century Drive
Address2: Guest arrives 5/04/08
City: Lake Buena Vista State: FL Zip: 32830

I have a biophysical profile and OB appt today too, and it's Kyle's birthday. We aren't doing much, but maybe dinner after or something... it should be a good day (assuming I don't go to the hospital! ;)). :goodvibes
:wizard: Good luck at today's appointment!

Happy Birthday Kyle!:bday: party:

I decided not to buy tickets for the party. We are going to leave the next day. I may change my mind as it gets closer. Hopefully, we'll be able to buy discounted tickets closer if we chose not to now.
Last August I was able to buy my P&PP tickets the day before the party at the AP rate. I tried to do it at the hotel concierge but he couldn't do it for me but he did call the AP line for me and they took my order over the phone and I just picked the tickets up at Guest Relations outside of the MK. I figured I really didn't want to go to a sold out party (I had been to a MVCMP that was sold out and it was CRAZY) and I wanted to make sure we all made it to WDW and the weather was going to be good before I paid for 5 tickets.

This one is posted on the disney site under family but it did not give details about where to sign up or how much. I know their is one that is behind the seeds. I think this one is a little different but could be wrong. It starts on the 26th. We will be their the 26th to the 28th for park days. Do you think we should avoid Epcot on the 27th and 28th as those are Sat. and Sun.? I some how did not realize it would start while we were their
I would avoid the world showcase on any weekend night-wall to wall people and lots of them are drinking heavily.

DH & Lizzy did the Behind the Seeds and DH said it was too long for Lizzy who was 6 at the time.

However... as of right this minute we are to have very seasonal SUNNY weather Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday! I can hope the rest of you are that lucky too.

Our forcast is showers for Wed/Thu/Fri with temps of 64/60/67 Mostly Sunny Sat and Sun 66/73 and partly cloudy 76 on Monday.

Both Lizzy & Joe will be marching in the parade Monday. I hope to finish Lizzy's skirt and make Emma a top. The patches for the skirt are all cut out and pinned together. I better get sewing!

You have the opposite extreme from what I have. I really wanted to take my niece & nephew to Disney. I know that things are tight for my sister (with the lawyers fees for the trial) so was willing to use our points for the trip. No, she has to pay her way. So I got the cost of a AAA room at Pop Century so she could pay that (which is where we would have stayed if we weren't staying on points).

I love her and the kids dearly and wish that she would let us help with this. She doesn't understand how much we are looking forward to this trip with her & the kids. It isn't like she has her hand out asking. We offered. Sometimes my family is too proud. I was the same way when I was younger I guess. I learned that sometimes you have to let others do for you so that they get the pleasure out of it. When your situation changes, you can pass it back or pass it on to someone else in a similar situation.

I think it's wonderful what you are looking to do for your family, and that was our exact intent when we treated our families to accomodations last December. We really wanted to be there to see my nieces experience it for the first time, and knew that offering a place to stay was really the only way to make sure everyone could go on the trip. It was one of the main reasons we bought DVC, and cleaned out 3 years' of points to do the trip.

I wouldn't change the time we had with our families, or the use of our points, for those that went on the trip. We did, unfortuantely, have a bit of an unpleasant experience with this one BIL/SIL. My SIL had lost her job a year ago January, but wasn't actively seeking a good paying job to get them back on their feet - in the interim, she kept shopping like there was no tomorrow, and signing up for all sorts of "home based businesses", where she'd spend all the $$ to get established up front, and then never follow through. They really dug themselves into quite a financial hole (which anyone could have predicted, and some tried not so subtly to point out to them), but they had to learn the lesson the hard way. We had just enough time to cancel the reservation before it would have gone into a Holding Acct., and that was really only due to me having to hound them - even though we had been up front with them from the beginning about all the DVC rules.

I do feel badly that they're going to have to postpone their trip for some unknown date in the future (when their family of 5 might not likely fit in a DVC studio), but I think we've done all we comfortably care to for them. Putting a band-aid on that gaping wound certainly won't help them in the long run.

I hope your experience continues to be the total opposite!!!!

Glynis, I wished you lived closer and not for the lemon bars.

I'm heading to bed, too. Tonight was the school carnival, and I'm wiped out! It was 94 degrees, and no wind. Cn we say HOT? Anyway, it's done, and that is the last of my room mother duties. I'll be grateful when school is out! Only a week and a half left!

Yikes, glad it's over and you can rest up.

Chris talked me into sending an email to the casting call. I'm sure we won't hear anything, but we couldn't resist trying. :goodvibes

:wizard: that they call!!

Hi Ya'll,,

Hal and I had a good time. I probably more than Hal, but Bruce gave him a few happy pills, so he did better each day.

We finally left at noon and drove straight thru except for a stop for sandwiches and two stops for me for the bathroom.

I think Hal thought Friday night was the night for the guys to save the world, but Bruce wasn't ready for it. So, by about 11:30pm, Hal was a little loopy, in pain, and definately ready for bed. I had to help him get down the hallway to the bedroom. :lmao:

Saturday morning, Carol and I drove to the co-op they belong to and I bought a really pretty pair of earrings. I will take a picture later and post it. Then we drove an hour away to Elkins for lunch and then to Buckhanon to pick up a table saw. We had a fun day but I must admit that I love being close to where I need to go when I have to shop.
The guys spent the day looking at videos about wood carving. I think Hal took a nap too.

Sunday it rained. so Carol and I put together a lot of floral arrangements for the wood vases Bruce had made.

Today we drove home and made it back in about 5 and a half hours.

I always enjoy our time down there, because it is so very easy and laid back. The company is great, food delicious, and lots of great stories.

Sounds like a wonderful weekend. Glad Hal is feeling better.

Unfortunately at this level, it is often not about the kids. :sad2: So many parents are living their lives through their children but are often unwilling to be involved in any way other than the "yelling" you see. Thankfully the kids don't know what is going on now. But, then will. And that is saddest of all. I hope this year ends very quickly for you and Eric and the kids, both at school and on the field.

Thanks.

I heard this quote awhile ago about raising kids & it is the truest thing I have ever heard....

"The days are long, but the years are short".

Everytime I loose my patience with the kids, I try to remember that their time with us as a family is only a small portion of their whole lives. You love them & raise them right & one day you will have grown men who you are so proud of. (like Elin, only with DD's!!!) We can't stop them from growing & it sure does hurt sometimes but we just have to love them & hope everything we taught them sinks in.

I can't believe my baby will be 13 this fall. :sad1:

I'll try to remember that when the girl's drive me bonkers.

Robyn, what a mess! I hope the soccer season comes to a rapid close!

They grow fast, don't they?
Speaking of high school, Newsweek (or somebody like that) came out with the top 1300 public high schools in the nation. DS's high school is #537. The #2 high school is the Talented and Gifted Magnet, but I don't consider that exactly public. It's public in the sense that it is free, but you have to apply and be accepted, same as the Performing Arts high school and the Science & Math Magnet (which is #4 on the list).

Thanks. I was surprised to see a good number of schools from my county on there. Of course the one Emma is supposed to go to isn't on there.

No good deed goes unpunished, huh?

Thanks.

Yesterday was practically frigid here, and it's barely breaking 60 today. I hate the hot summers with a passion so I'm glad they aren't here yet.... but goodness! It wouldn't hurt to hit 70!

I just got an email that Kyle got his first requests for vacation next (work) year, so we/he will be off the second half of October 2008, and the first half of March 2009! He also got a really wonderful elective for July, when we have new babies... which was really important to us at one point (and will be then).... but right now I am just glad I finally get to start planning our trip! :teeth: We had picked the first half of March as a request to go as soon as possible, but now we're realizing we won't be able to get a third (at least) trip out of APs that start then (he can never take off earlier than March). We're trying to get around that by booking the second week (we're doing a "shorter" trip the first time anyway, just about a week)... then in 2010 hopefully we can get the same block and go the first week. Easter is late next year, so I'm thrilled that the crowds should be decent!

Let the planning begin. I hope the Dr. appointment goes well and you can remain home for a bit longer.

Happy Birthday to Kyle!!
:cake:

:headache: Unbelievable!

Thanks! I looked online-even ebay and can only find it in black or tan denim not blue denim. It has a little 'belt' around the outside but no labels or anything on the outside. It has a small Nine West label on the inside. I paid about $15 for it.
.

Thanks. I'll keep an eye out for it.

:grouphug: That's really sad that it's a learning league and parents/coaches are yelling at their kids.

It got up to 99/100 here yesterday. I was glad that Jake didn't have to be out at the baseball park until 7 last night. The boys have swimming after school, then Jake has another late baseball game. Have a great day everyone! :)

Thanks Marci.

Stay cool. Good luck to Jake tonight!

I look out the window to beautiful blue skies and think warm summer day, then I remember that it is currently 55 degrees with a predicted high of 62. Jeans and a turtleneck sweater for me today :sad2: My family thought I was nuts for packing already, but with temperatures like this we won't need summer clothes here before our trip:rolleyes1

Enjoy the concert tonight. It's rained all day here. Yuck, yuck and more yuck.

Wow - that sounds great! :cool1: Hey - 3 weeks away would have to beat 3 weeks at home any day of the week! You'll have to tell us all about it when you get back! popcorn::

I'm so sorry to hear this, Robyn. My BIL coaches my DN6's t-ball team, and my SIL was telling me that they had to end a game early the other night and call the police due to the parents of the other team, harassing the kids and vandalizing the field! :scared1: What is wrong with people?!?!?!

Continued  for Emma, too.

Thanks. I am glad that we didn't get that escalated :scared1:

Well, I need to get back to work. I have very little motivation this week, and am so tired! Plus my eyes are being weird and sensitive this morning - I almost want to put on sunglasses here at my desk, but I'm sure I would get a few weird looks! :cool2:

It's going to be a warm one in Dallas again today (I think summer is here :sad2: ) - I'd gladly ship each of you about 30 degrees!

Have great days, DDA!

Hope your eyes are feeling a bit better.

sorry I've been MIA in posting...I have read along but it seems to be going in one eye and quickly leaving the other:rotfl: .

We are in the last week of school and it's 90+ weather all week...I hate turning on the AC in May!!

Jennifer-hope that the peanuts are staying in for a smidge longer!!

Robyn-

for everybody else

Thanks. I agree on the AC- thankfully we've had it on only a few days. Last year it ran from April to October constantly.

Robyn-I should have mentioned that Emma's hat was a woman's hat not a childs.

Got it :thumbsup2

Hi, Robyn! :) High school is a long way off for Emma. You might move, they might build a new high school, her high school could improve, you never know! No telling where our high school will fall in 2 years when DS is ready to go there.

I have been looking at our "budget" for the August trip. Basically that means determining how much money we need of each format. Gift cards, cash, Travelers checks, Disney Rewards card, and money in the bank account to pay the pet sitter and the fee for 17 days of airport parking. I decided to put some money in travelers checks because I don't know exactly how much we need, and I don't want to carry a lot of cash. If I load all the money on Disney gift cards then it's stuck there, but with travelers checks I can deposit any leftovers when we come home. And our bank doesn't charge a fee for them, which is even better! I used to get them at the AAA office, but they don't offer them anymore. The bank is closer than AAA, so all the better for me!

I decided take a peek at the rankings...2 of our 3 HS's are in there...with the girl's HS being one of them.

The one I found the most ironic (there were a couple ironic ones in there) is the top one for the state is the one having trouble for teachers (yes plural) having inappropriate relationships with students. :sad2:

There was a teacher at my high school that I would have liked very much to have an inappropriate relationship with! ;) But he was married and apparently that was working out pretty well for him so he didn't find it necessary to go after any students. He wasn't one of my teachers - he was the intern for the teacher I was an assistant for. Talk about an elective that was an easy "A"! All I did was enter grades into the computer now and then. :confused3

Nope. It's not on my site. I'll dig it out and post it. It's one of the first recipes I learned how to make on my own, and it's been a family favorite ever since then.

Stay tuned and I'll post it.

By the way, whenever you decide to do your tour of states, let me know and I'll cook for you while you're here!
