I need help deciding how to work this.

We are waitlisted for the night of 8/14 at AKV. If we don't get that I might be able to add the night of 8/10 to our SSR ressie using points. The nights in between are a room-only ressie, so I can modify off whichever night we get using points. How long should I wait for that AKV room before I try to use the points at SSR? The AKV room isn't available for cash.

I'm off to run Colby to school then run a few errands. Concert tonight. Hunter's band director had surgery in the fall so we had no winter concert. This will be the first time we see him perform Tomorrow I will chaperone Nick's ecology field trip while Colby is a school. Mom will pick him up so that I can go Hopefully the sun will be out. The kids will be working in a stream and it is too cold for that IMO.

Your trip isn't until August. I would think you could wait until beginning of July before reallocating the points. SSR seems to be a less popular resort even though we loved it. It seems that most people have had luck being wait listed. I've never wait listed myself, but I think that is how I would approach it.

We are in the last week of school and it's 90+ weather all week...I hate turning on the AC in May!!

I agree with Deb, Elizabeth. I'd hang on to that waitlist for a little while longer. It seems like MS should be able to tell you how much inventory they have at SSR for your time frame, too - I swear I've been told before when I've called for more popular dates that "we've only got 3 more studios available for that particular night, etc." If they can tell you that, and you can call every day or so, you could move on a studio at SSR if it looks like the date is going to fill there (assuming your AKV waitlist doesn't come through).

I had never waitlisted before until Saturday. We are likely changing our AKL CL reservation in Dec. to staying at AKV on points we weren't anticipating having, and they only had 2 of my nights at the 7 mo. window. Lo and behold, my wailist came through the very next day for the last 2 nights - I was shocked! I hope you have similar success!

I was wondering the same thing. We already have to borrow from next year for our March trip. We have enough points for a October or December trip but that is it. We may just have to buy more points! We haven't been DVC members for even a year and I already have Addonitis.

I kind of figure it isn't a horrible thing if we can't add the night on points at SSR - we'll just bank those leftover points to next year. On the other hand, if we have the points and SSR has the room then might as well use the points.
I'm definitely not ready to give up on the waitlist yet. I did the waitlist to keep watching for a room until 7 days before, and I figure once that 31-day mark approaches where the points will go into holding if people don't cancel that we might see a room open up at AKV.

Oh, trust me - this is the first of this phenomenon (and I'm sure the last!).

We had promised 55 pts. each (enough for 5 weeknights in an SSR studio during the value season) for Jonathan's brothers as a Xmas gift last year. Since one of his brother's and his family weren't able to make the trip with us last Dec. due to financial reasons, we canceled their ressie before the 30-day mark, and had the points banked into our '08 UY (we have Oct.) for them to use this Dec. Well, they told us a couple of months ago that they weren't going to be able to use those points this year, either.

We initially thought we'd keep our regular cash reservations for Dec. that we already had "as is" and just use those pts. for a DVC stay sometime next spring. But, we're likely going to use those points in Dec. for AKV (plus borrowing a few from '09), and just do AKL CL another time. The cost for those nights is equal to the balance due on our Labor Day Wonder cruise, and Jonathan wants to cancel one or the other to save some $$ (why he all of a sudden cares about vacation costs is beyond me). I'd much rather "give up" 4 days CL level (and still get to go - just staying in a studio instead!) than give up a separate cruise!

It will be nice in '09 when we do finally get use of our points back, although we'll have to be wary of J's brother coming calling for those points whenever they're ready. (I almost felt like they were fishing for us to help them out further financially so they could go but we're not taking that bait! They made that bed - not my problem that they now have to lie in it! )

You have the opposite extreme from what I have. I really wanted to take my niece & nephew to Disney. I know that things are tight for my sister (with the lawyers fees for the trial) so was willing to use our points for the trip. No, she has to pay her way. So I got the cost of a AAA room at Pop Century so she could pay that (which is where we would have stayed if we weren't staying on points).

I love her and the kids dearly and wish that she would let us help with this. She doesn't understand how much we are looking forward to this trip with her & the kids. It isn't like she has her hand out asking. We offered. Sometimes my family is too proud. I was the same way when I was younger I guess. I learned that sometimes you have to let others do for you so that they get the pleasure out of it. When your situation changes, you can pass it back or pass it on to someone else in a similar situation.

I would not have thought of that, and it saves me from having to make something. Though I love to cook and bake, I will probably make everthing my self, so something easy for dessert is good.
