DDA Chapter 6

Morning DDA!

Mom flew in last night for a funeral today. Thanks for all the suggestions on the menu! Mom was looking over the choices and doesn't like the shrimp scampi choice for some odd reason (maybe price? :) ) and keeps pushing the stredul. We'll try both and go from there. :thumbsup2

I kind of preferred the streudel too! The Coral Reef used to make an amazing vegetarian streudel that Kristin would order every time we went there. It appears it is no longer on their menu. :(

I hope that I am as successful as the two of you with my girls. It isn't looking good with Katrina. I'm hoping the counseling that she starts in a couple of weeks help her choose a career path. She is so much like me - I quit school for a few years until I could decide what I wanted to be. I met my goal and graduated by the time I was 30.

Brava for you, Vicki! You met your goal!

As for Katrina... my suggestion to all my students who approach their senior year in high school with no idea of what they want to do is to find an excellent small liberal arts college to attend. That way they are able to explore so many different things that eventually one that "fits" them is bound to pop up! :goodvibes Why, in our country, do we expect 16-17 year old children to know definitively what they want to do for the rest of their lives? :confused3

I have always told her (& others) that as well. I have never expected her to know what she wanted to do. I also told her to get a full-time job and quit school until she knew. She is so much like me that when she decides what she wants to do, she'll make it happen.

The DDA Appliance Curse has hit our house. My 27 year old washer no longer wants to play. So, we are faced with shopping for something that I really don't give a hoot in Hades about. Under $400 is my only criteria... :rotfl:

We also really need to look at purchasing another car. I hate car shopping. Yes, you read that right... ELIN HATES SHOPPING FOR SOMETHING! I want a convertible. But I hate the shopping part of it. I also know that we really need two newer vehicles so I hesitate to splurge on that coveted topless one. ;)

That may be the best advice you could give her right now, Vicki! I wish you all luck on this. :goodvibes

Ahhhh. I missed the great deal on the Owners Locker. It went over so well, that it was only available for a day. They are going to make a offer to all existing members for a 3-year free 2nd trip and that will be the new DIS deal. I'm so bummed. I should have jumped on it but I thought I'd have a couple of days to convince Chuck.

I think I'm off to buy my overland bag. I probably shouldn't but I really need a nice looking bag.

Pixie dust to all in need.:wizard:

I have had the most amazing week not spent at Disney. Dinner for 8 turned into dinner for a dozen, but what a wonderful day this has been.

Just what the doctor ordered for me. My friends (that I went to Disney with in December) came here for spring break. Thier son and my grandson are bestest buds. :goodvibes With two trips to Chuck E Cheese, one trip to Hands On House, a stop at Choo Choo barn and a few shared meals. What a week.!:dance3:

Then we just relaxed at my home. I hate leftovers. Well, I don't have to worry about that. There is not a drop of leftovers. I'm sipping the last of the cabernet sauvignon ( a wonderful John Shaw 2001) out of a Go Diego Go Dixie cup. Every glass is in the dishwasher...:woohoo:What a wonderful evening.

I think the boys are going to sleep until noon. My DGS did not have a nap. He was falling asleep standing up. Their DS was so tired, he had to be carried to the car.:goodvibes :goodvibes

I finally washed all the dishes and just turned on the dishwasher. I'm off to bed.

Sounds wonderful! I'm glad you had such a good week. :goodvibes

:rotfl2: Good for them! I don't care if I am ever "ripped" but I need to get back into a more regular exercise regimen. I can tell a difference in my body even though I have not gained any weight. (Of course, I have not lost any more either, but that is a completely different story and one upon which I have begun yet another chapter. )

I'm sure you will get to where you want to be. :thumbsup2

Yes, I am proud of what they're doing for their health. I certainly want them around for a long time, and I think the example my grandmother set (played golf 3 times a week until she was 90!) has convinced them that staying active is the way to go.

They like to call me and give me their blood pressure readings after exercise! :rotfl:

Well, no rain. I wish I could have a job where I was wrong 90% of the time and still get paid. We were supposed to have rain all afternoon and evening yesterday, into today, which we didn't. So that means we DO have our 8AM soccer game. Or they will cancel it at the last minute. Guess I better start getting ready. TTFN.

Good morning, Elin, and to the rest of you eventually.

Ain't that the truth?!

I hope that Nicholas' team won, to make getting up that early worthwhile!

Well it's been slow going but I have reached another mini goal, this one has extra meaning as I'm now at the weight I was in 1992, so I've taken off 16 years of weight gain. I had to go shopping for new under garments, I had a serious case of droopy drawers, :rotfl: . DH wants to know why when women lose weight they lose their breasts too, :confused3 , sorry. I also bought some jeans that fit as all my others were falling down, and I had to have something for work. I still didn't buy too many things as I've still got a long way to go. DH said I need to get rid of the bigger clothes, I use two closets so I think I will seperate them into one closet, getting rid of some but keeping some too. I've been down this road before and unfortunately I know how hard it is to maintain.

We're headed over to Mobile this afternoon to spend the evening and then attend a Banquet tomorrow, DD is being entered in the National Honor Society and they are having a Banquet in their honor.

I realized this week that one of my life goals will be met next month when DD receives her degreee, I've preached to my girls since they wre little that they would have a college education. I've always told them that if they were to get married and decide to be a stay at home Mom that that would be great, but they needed something to fall back on if they ever needed it. I'm very proud to say that they listened, :yay: .

Have a Great weekend friends!

Good for you, Debbie, all the way around! :woohoo: :woohoo:

Good morning, DDA!

I am just popping in for a minute. We had a good flight (after an hour delay for weather) and yesterday was fine. Had dinner with my aunt & 3 cousins (and of course DS and Mom). Not sure what's on the agenda today. I am exhausted. I couldn't sleep last night.

Mom has dial-up and no coffee :scared1: so things aren't moving too quickly this morning!

:wizard: and  to all!

Glad to hear you guys made it safely. Good luck with the dial-up! :scared:

Today is opening day here for little league. Dana took Daniel to the parade & pictures. I wanted to go my my tummy says "no".

I did get the kids packed yesterday & today I am working on the rest. This time 2 weeks from now we will be at the Kennedy Space center.:thumbsup2

Sorr your tummy is still giving you issues. Good luck with the further packing!

Hi and Bye! I gotta finish an assignment by noon and frankly I do not care anymore. Is this semester over already??:confused3 :confused3 I have two assignments due Tuesday as well.

Talk to you all later. Sorry to be so negative, again.

Sorry that you're not feeling motivated today, Becky. I'm having the same problem!

The DDA Appliance Curse has hit our house. My 27 year old washer no longer wants to play. So, we are faced with shopping for something that I really don't give a hoot in Hades about. Under $400 is my only criteria... :rotfl:

Yuck - all the way around. I don't think there are 2 worse things to have to shop for - and to have to do it simultaneously isn't fun! Good luck! :wizard: :wizard:

Wow - I can't believe they already removed the deal!

Where did you hear the info. on what they're going to give to existing members?

I think I'm off to buy my overland bag. I probably shouldn't but I really need a nice looking bag.

:thumbsup2

I am sorry you missed it too, Vicki. The new deal they are going to offer sounds promising, though.

Well, I just booked a big chunk of our trip to New England this summer. After looking at gasoline prices and the fact that we will be returning home on July 4th weekend, we opted to fly Southwest from Baltimore to Hartford, CT for a grand total of $419 RT for all three of us. I got a deal on a car rental for 9 days from National at $265 so that is done too.

Now, to find hotels that won't break the bank!

The other one was a 2nd trip free for life. This is much less of a deal than the one that was only available for a day.

We have at least 3 of our camping trips booked for this summer. The first one is the end of this month. I sure hope the snow is gone by then! We are totally contained so it doesn't matter if it is still chilly but I'd like to be able to get out and explore the area a little.

I hope your snow is gone too! How awful would that be to be stuck in the camper unable to enjoy the area you chose to vacation in. :upsidedow

It would be our own fault for going so early in the season. The parks are open on the condition that the snow is basically gone.

Sorry this got way longer then I intended it to be.:3dglasses

I went to college with an undeclared major, with the intent of getting a biology degree, with a minor in music.:rolleyes1 The school I went to was the only one that flat out accepted me, I had an acceptance letter by December or January. The others screwed around and kept playing games, about being on a waiting list ow we will accept you if this changes. Honestly though looking back there is no way that I would have enjoyed myself at the other schools I applied to. I truly feel where I ended up was the best choice for me, whether I knew it at the time or not. Who else can say the college they ended up at came out of a AAA state tour book.

Honestly it did though. I was looking through the AAA book as we were planning a trip to Florida/WDW and happened to look at the colleges and universities in the state. Now I really wanted to go to Hawaii and so did my Mom, but my Dad wanted to go to Florida and since it was through a rewards program at work that we were going to obviously we went where he wanted to go.

So as part of the Florida trip planning I picked two schools that interested me, that we chose to visit while on this trip Jacksonville University and the University of Central Florida. Well let me just say after the visit I did not think about attending Jacksonville University. I put UCF on my list of possibilities after the visit. It was a relatively new school, large diverse student population, gorgeous but large campus, had a good but underfunded science and music department. I did not even see most of the campus on the short tour of the campus. I definitely had spent more time touring the other campuses I visited, then the school I ended up at.

I applied to UCF on a total whim, it was only $15 to apply versus $50 - $100 like at some of the other schools.

So I get to school for orientation, since I was out of state I attended the last orientation before classes started. I was also doing marching band camp at the same time as orientation. When I went to register for classes just about every class I wanted to take was already full. So I took whatever classes I could get into. No math or science which was essential to the major I wanted to get into. I never ended up being a biology major.

I did mentally go through many majors that I wanted to do and am still interested in. I took classes in sciences, criminal justice, sociology, non-profit management, psychology, education, music, arts, humanities, public administration, computers and technology. The only two majors I ever declared despite mentally thinking about completing many, was elementary education and liberal studies degree. I graduated with the liberal studies degree with focus areas in education, public administration and a sociology minor. 4 years and about 160 credit hours later I graduated with a widely diverse array of focus areas but a totally different idea of what I wanted to do with my life. But I have not forgotten the science and music that I love.

So, Miss Becky... you are now working on your graduate degree, right? And is it in a field that you love?

Chanon, I just noticed that it is only 182 days until your wedding.... are you ready to make your ADRs?? ;)
