Tammi - I think your menu with the fruit addition looks just terrific!

I had a wonderful time with my niece and nephew this week-end. I'm looking forward to our Disney trip even more than I was (if that is possible). We played horse (basketball shooting contest). We watched Enchanted because I bought it for them. They chose 20 Disney pins each for trading. Of course, many of them they want to keep. I gave them their autograph books, autograph pens, and rain ponchos to put in their fanny packs. I gave them some Disney mugs (we had 12 POR mugs) to use while they are waiting for our Disney trip. We played tickle monster and did a lot of cuddling.

sounds like a near-perfect weekend, Vicki!

Jennifer - I am happy to read that your business has made it very easy for you to quit! ;)

Robyn - I hope things look brighter in the a.m.

Well, we had a nice weekend visiting with my parents. It always goes by way too quickly and tomorrow it's back to work for me.

I'm wondering if anyone of you have any advice for this situation. Karen, you probably would have the closest experience with what I need.

Remember back in October when my aunt (dad's sister) dies suddenly? Well, her husband, my uncle, died at the beginning of March. They have a daughter, Michele, 47 years old, who is mildly mentally retarded. She has lived all her life with them. Now she has no one and has been staying with my parents since January, when her dad was hospitalized. Unfortunately her parents had not made any arrangements for her care upon their deaths. It is taking quite a toll on my mom and dad. My cousin, who is in CA, and I are the executors of their estates and her Trust, so it is now up to us to find care for her. She is not dependent, but can only stay alone for short periods of time, and not overnight. She more or less needs someone to 'watch' her and prepare her meals. Ideally we would like to find someone to stay in her home with her, but that is very risky, with what goes on in today's world. Second option is finding a facility that will take her. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on where to start or have any of you had any experiences like this? My mom and dad have given me some places to start, and I will do that tomorrow.

Tammi - Alan's sister is mildly mentally retarded, as well. Alan is her state appointed payee, and we are trying to do right by her. We have found that the best thing for her is a state funded group home. She has tried to live in an apartment by herself, and it always works for a while, and then leeches find her and start to take advantage of her. It's safer for her to be in a group home. It sounds cold, but we just can't do anything else for her. There are several places around here that run group homes and they are all well run, clean and very nice. Hope this helps.

Time for a little reading and then bed. Have great nights, everyone!

Thanks for sharing Glynis.

I think I'm going to read a bit and then get some sleep. Have a good night everyone.

Sounds like a wonderful weekend! :goodvibes Iknow it was a different sort of Easter for you, but I think you were where you were needed the most.

Could you guys put the power of the DDA to work for my coworker Anne Marie? She is one of the nicest people I have ever met. She is 41. She, another coworker & I were all due the same week when I was pregnant with Lizzy. We all had girls. So her DD is nearly 9 and she has an 11 year old DS. She has just been diagnosed with colon cancer.:sad2: She is still consulting with surgeons. They have told her it isn't stage 4 but they aren't sure how bad it is yet.

Thanks for your prayers. Her poor parents. Anne Marie has a 2 year old neice with brain cancer-she is doing well right now.

How horrible! Lots of good wishes for her and her family! :wizard:

:grouphug: I'm sorry you're in a foul mood. Hopefully a good night's sleep will make you feel better in the morning.

Robyn, I hope you get out of your grumpy mood soon!

My bathroom is looking so bright :cool2:

I hope the smell goes away, Janet! How can you enjoy your new paint if the fumes are suffocating you?

YIPPEE!! :yay: Jen's going on the cruise! :yay:

Yay for a cruise! The Uncles are going on an Alaskan cruise, too. In June or July - I'll have to ask them when it is.

My mom goes tomorrow for the consult about her mammogram. I don't think she told me what time her appt. is.

Princess goes back to school tomorrow. I feel like she hasn't been to school in forever!

DH announced tonight that he wants to do DxDDP in August even if we have to pay for it. :scared: Depending on how that all shakes out it will cost us somewhere between $25 and $800. :scared1: I should look at it for the middle portion of the trip instead of just the last 7 nights in case we can't get free dining and can get an AP rate for one chunk but not the other.

We are watching Enchanted. I bought a copy for my family as well. Katrina really wanted to see it. I also got Nancy Drew.

Ah heck, I remember when gas was 50 cents a gallon.

When I started driving, gas jumped up to 89 cents per gallon, and my parents told me I had to pay for my own gas! I was appalled that gas was so much! It's amazing what a little time does to your perspective, huh?

Sounds like a wonderful weekend! :goodvibes Iknow it was a different sort of Easter for you, but I think you were where you were needed the most.

It was definitely a different Easter. We had nachos for Easter Dinner. :lmao: The Easter Bunny was asked to make the eggs hard to find. I had fun helping the Easter Bunny with that request. It took them over an hour to find the eggs. They didn't find their baskets in the process of finding the eggs either.

Here is how my menu is shaping up for the cookout. Any further ideas?

burgers/dogs
baked beans
cold linguini salad
coleslaw
chips
veggie tray
deviled eggs
cake

I feel like it's not enough. Should I add anything?

That sounds really good to me! I guess you could add cookies if you felt like it.

Done! She will be in my prayers!

It is much better now, thank goodness! It was really strong at 1st, now I can faintly smell the freshener.

:wizard: for your mother!

My mom goes tomorrow for the consult about her mammogram. I don't think she told me what time her appt. is.

Well, it's nice to be back, and finally all caught up!

The twins birthday on Friday was a bunch of fun! We let them open presents early in the morning. Mary got 101 Dalmatians, with a stuffed Dalmatian, and a new scooter. Leslie got Barbie in the Magic of Pegasus, and a stuffed Giselle doll, and a new scooter! They were thrilled with everything. At school, they were given birthday crown, had their names announced over the intercom, and were invited to the principal's office where he presented them with new books, with a personal message written inside (have I mentioned how much I love our principal?). After school, Alan and I took them to lunch. They chose McDonald's, so that's where we went. After lunch, I baked a small cake for them, and ordered their pizza for dinner. They spent the rest of the day riding their scooters. We ate the pizza and blew out candles on their small cake.

Saturday morning, we got up early and dyed Easter eggs. We only did a dozen, so it wasn't too much of a mess. I also threw together a Dreamsicle salad for our family get together. At 10:00, we went to my SIL's house for the egg hunt. We spent about an hour getting lunch ready (sloppy jose's, salad, chips, and coleslaw), then let the kids eat. We knew if we let them hunt, we'd never get any good food into them. After lunch we went outside to "hide" the goodies. This consists of just tossing handfuls of candy onto the lawn. No real hiding here! Then we let the kids loose! My kids were more interested in finding real eggs, and came home with 36 of them. I couldn't believe they would pass up candy for hard boiled eggs, but there you are!

Saturday night, Alan and I actually went out on a date! We went to a local steak place, and it was really nice! We haven't done a real date since January, so this was long overdue! Once we got home, we got the kids bathed, and put to bed. At that point, I made some hot cross buns for breakfast, and boiled another half dozen eggs for the Easter bunny to bring. While this was going on, Alan got a call from one of our niece's. She was 10 weeks pregnant, and had started to miscarry. She was being rushed to a hospital near us, but her husband couldn't come with her, since he had to stay with the children (they live in another town about an hour and a half away). She needed someone to be with her, so Alan went. They are actually quite close in age, and grew up as best friends. She did miscarry, and it was pretty rough. At about 10:30, her husband got there, so Alan could come home. By that time, I had the baskets filled and hidden away.

Sunday morning, we got up and I warmed up the hot cross buns for the kids. Then they all got into their new Easter clothes and we headed out for church. It was a really nice service. Once home, the kids hunted for their baskets and were thrilled with all the movies, candy and small toys the big bunny brought. At about 4:00, we went to Alan's brother's house for Easter dinner. We had been planning this for a while. I was to bring a ham, whipped maple sweet potatoes, jello salad an deviled eggs. They were going to make roast chicken, rice, broccoli and green salad. We would have Costco birthday cake for dessert. Sounds good, right? Well, we got there, and found that they had made nothing!!! That's right, NOTHING!!! When we got there, they boiled some potatoes, and mashed them, and that was it! Not even gravy! I was so mad!!!!! I told Alan that we will not be doing holiday's with that family again! This happened at Thanksgiving, too! I refuse to feed their whole family! Grrrrrr.

Anyway, that's where we are, now! Life is getting back to normal. Whatever that is!
