DDA Chapter 5

Not much going around here right now. Taking it easy and getting a little laundry done this morning. Making some taco soup for lunch (yum!) since Dad is gone and I don't have to worry about making him a separate no-bean batch. I'm thinking about just hanging out on the computer half the day to finish my disc burning and reorganizing my music since I added ALL of my music from my laptop the other day. Otherwise, it may just be a lounge and read kind of day before tackling the big projects starting again tomorrow.

Anything exciting planned for anyone else?

Just staying happily snowed in, for one day this weekend! :rotfl:

I'm at the mercy of photobucket again, and then I'll have pictures from our house and my parents' neighborhood (about 13 miles away)

(Somewhat) fortunately, the temps are going to rise a little slower this week than they had originally thought. The Ohio River is already at 50 feet (borderline flood stage), and with more than a foot of snow melting from everywhere around the river, Gov. Strickland has the National Guard "on call" in case of severe flooding. I'm glad we live north!

My sister out while it was still snowing (albeit a little lighter than earlier in the day)

I'm not sure how much snow they actually ended up with.

Out our front door (last night, bad lighting sorry ;))

This is the strange band I was telling you about.... right behind our house there is nothing. The rest of the backyard though, has about 17-18 inches.

07-kaufmanstrangebackyardpatch.jpg

This is the lot next door... the basement is full-size, and I swear it looks about one-third to one-half full! I'm thinking they won't be working there much this week :rolleyes1

08-halffullbasement.jpg

These are from the front yard, where the levels are a bit more true (no weird wind patterns).

09-shoveledoutpowerbox.jpg

Our porch is just about 3 feet high. The snow in the front yard is between 18 and 22 inches.

If only my ski clothes fit around my belly.... I'd so be out playing! :rotfl:

I think this picture shows it best, Jennifer. And I think you are doing exactly what I would be doing... looking at it from inside the house! :thumbsup2

And i could not be more thrilled! When I got home from work on Friday I got in my pajamas since my pants were snow covered.... all I could do that evening was lament about how much I wish we didn't have the wedding plans, so I could literally stay in them all weekend (except for maybe the occasional shower ;))! :rotfl:

Sounds good to me! I hope you enjoy it a LOT!

I am also having a lazy day at home today. If I can possibly stay in my PJs all day long I will!! :goodvibes

Jennifer great pictures! That is what it basically looks like around here too!

I am glad that it let up. I have to work tonight, and the thought of driving in it did not thrill me.

I am glad you won't have bad weather to drive in tonight too, Tom! :)

I am glad that it let up. I have to work tonight, and the thought of driving in it did not thrill me.

At least around here, the roads are crystal clear. The trouble (which we JUST saw, as I had to help Kyle dig out to go pick up something at the store that he needs) will likely be getting out of your driveway! Be safe! :goodvibes

The rain has ended here, but not the flooding. Chris has 8 inches of water on the floor of his shop. He has a sump pump running now to empty it out  I think I'll mosey out and check the camper and maybe into the attic to make sure the roof look dry inside.

So I gotta go I am probably gonna be late. I have a Girl Scout Sunday/Thinking Day event and then a SU meeting. I have already been warned the SU meeting is probably going to be a hctib session. I am just hoping that I have the strength to get through it without screaming and yelling back.  :rolleyes1

I am already frustrated today as my laptop touch pad has been acting wonky and my desktop mouse had stopped working, the plug was pulled out of the back of the computer, well in order to put that back in I ended up ripping out the keyboard cord. When I tried to put that back in two of the prongs smashed together. The desktop appears to be working fine now.  The laptop left touchpad button works when it wants to work.

My road was also partially shut down as the police and coroner were at a house up the road.

Gonna jet, have a great day!

Oh no! I hope everything dries up soon, and hasn't ruined anything in your camper or anywhere else!

Chris has a propane heater on in his shop trying to melt some of the ice. The sump pump is making progress on eliminating the water. The camper is completely dry inside :cool1: I'm glad I resealed the roof last summer. Our attic looks great no sign of leaks or mice :cool1: Overall we faired well. It is very cold out and windy too. The sap certainly isn't running today.

My grandmother did great in surgery. She came home today after the lumpectomy. They will not do any other treatment. The surgeon feels he got it all, but if not, then this is it. Everyone is very pleased with the decision. If he got it all, then he said it would be 5 to 10 years before it came back. She's 85, so that's not really an issue.

John went to the ENT and saw the doctor (not the PA) today. He scoped his sinuses, really listened to him. He diagnosed him with Ageusia, but it's very hard to find the cause. He put him on steroids as it may be inflamed and irriatated nerve endings. If it is the cause, John should see results within 7 days. If it doesn't help, then they will have to explore other possibilities. Thanks for the prayers.
Denise-great news on your grandmother. Hope the steroids help John!:wizard:

DH got his flash for the Sony. Brand new, factory sealed, for $60. The same exact flash the Best Buy across the street tried to sell us for $300 for the display model! So HA! BB across the street! Guess we'll be doing business with the OTHER Best Buy near Princess's house from now on! The guy in their camera dept. told us they are a different district than the one by our house, and apparently that makes a difference.
Congrats!:woohoo:

Are you bored already?
Never!!! They are wonderful!

Hi! I'm Bernadette, mom to Lizzy(will be 9 in May), Joe(7), and Emma(5).

Feel better soon Bernadette :wizard: May is getting closer!
Thanks! I am so ready to go!

Bernadette I just read on another thread that the carousel will be closed May 4th - 24th for rehab. Hope this will not upset Emma!
:scared1: I will be dissapointed-I love taking photos of it. Emma will be a bit dissapointed but as long as Test Track is open we'll be OK.

Terra wants to know when we can start her countdown calendar. I told her we need to wait until a little closer than 275 days. :rotfl: I still have to answer the question daily though.
Not too early.;) I kept telling Emma we would go in the spring so I'm going to have a problem with Easter being so early. We are putting stickers on calendar pages I printed out so even though she knows its nearly 60 days she's still going to want to go right after Easter. Easter is in the spring isn't it?

Things have been rather crazy/unsettled here the last few days.

DH filled out the application for his promotion today, complete with essay questions! Then at dinner he said it might be good that we don't have his return airfare for August yet because he might have to change his schedule if he gets the job.:headache: I want him to have the job, but all of our plans are finished! I guess if he ends up not staying the full 16 nights I will go back to my original plan and move to Pop with DS after DH goes home.:confused3
:wizard:

Although we are not dealing with snow and ice, we are also having some nasty weather. I am glad we went to Boston last weekend and not this one!
Last weekends was much better than all the rain we had this weekend.

I had a nice time last night..needed some girlfriend time!!!
Sounds fun!

here is the reason i am in search for a job. the YMCA has been b***s***ing around at figuring out how to do a drug test since it would be difficult for me to pee in a cup. then i got a call saying that the hr person wanted to talk to me about service dog and attendant helping me to put things out 30 before kids would arrive. had the meeting then she said that she had to contact their lawyers to see if it was reasonable accommodation for me to have service dog their and attendant help me for 30 minutes. well hr called monday and said that they don't think i could perform the duties that are required so no job for me. HELLO I CAN ASK KIDS TO HELP SHOW HOW TO DO GAMES because i physically cant show. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. oh well i went to 2 interviews this week and hope i get the receptionist position. i just need 1 person to give me a chance. i am so frustrated at society and their views of disabled people.:furious:
I'm so sorry!:confused3

Hi everyone! Here's a bib I made for my girlfriends baby shower tomorrow:

Nice job!

Science Fair Board Completion Day is over and the Science Fair Board is NOT complete! The flippin' power kept going out this afternoon with all the wind we're having. I was halfway through typing the procedure and I lost it. My paperweight of a desktop computer takes forever to reboot. So I eventually got tired of fighting with it and gave up. The only thing left to do is type up the results and conclusion. I think I'm going to retype the procedure, AGAIN, and have Nicholas put it in more of his words. As it stands I think it sounds too 'adult'.

Then in the midst of all of that I burnt dinner. Really bad. I was making country fried steak in a skillet on the stove. All the water in the pan had evaporated and it was black and crispy on the bottom. So we all ended up going out.

I hope everyone had a good day.

Don't forget to spring forward!
How frustrating!

I did babysit 10 kids at Kristi's this afternoon. Luckily it was only about an hour and her friend is paying me well for that hour over the next six weeks. They are doing a Mom's group for their group counseling class and her friend offered to pay me to watch the kids downstairs. Yeah Disney money!

The best part of the day was the lovely hour+ I spent at Borders by myself. Just me, my favorite beverage and a stack of books to peruse. Ahhhh.... Some grocery shopping and then home to make pumpkin muffins with Terra. Now I'm chilling at the computer and waiting for the muffins to finish so that I can eat some dinner. :thumbsup2
Congrats on the Disney$$$ and having an hour for you!

Tia - Who knows? But woe to them, I looked up the office that sent me the letter and I found their PHONE NUMBER! :stir: I am SO calling them on Monday. And I will call our agent, just to let her know how really irritated I am with this and they are in grave danger of losing us as customers.
I think I would try calling but then go with Sally's suggestion of contacting the insurance commissioner. How maddening!

The drive ended up being fine.
Glad you made it there and home safely!

And the grand total is......
Picture090.jpg
YUCK!!!!!!

Amy -thanks for asking..I was up til midnight waiting for my dad--everyone is okay and there is damage but it was not too bad
Great news and I'm glad your brother is home safely too!

I am glad that it let up. I have to work tonight, and the thought of driving in it did not thrill me.
Drive carefully!!!

So I gotta go I am probably gonna be late. I have a Girl Scout Sunday/Thinking Day event and then a SU meeting. I have already been warned the SU meeting is probably going to be a hctib session. Good luck! Hope the SU meeting isn't too bad.

DH brought the kids up to his mom's. I stayed home to do laundry and at least load the tax software on my Mac. He is going to leave the kids there and come get me to go to a wake then we'll both go get the kids. My old boss's husband died this week. He had Alzheimer's and up until just around Christmas she had been caring for him at home. I'm sure he's in a better place now.

I dug out yesterday afternoon after the snow stopped. The worst part was the end of the driveway where the snow plows had gone through. It was at least 3 - 4 foot deep!

I did have to help my neighbor get out of his driveway. He thought that with his 4 wheel drive he wouldn't get stuck. Well, he did! The only shovel he had was a spade! Not very productive. I noticed that when he returned he had a regular snow shovel.

Chanon, that bib is really cute! Have fun at the shower and encourage your friend to make sure all bibs are secured when she does the laundry, because velcro sticks to everything in the dryer!

Karen, I hope you hear some good news on the job front soon.

Deb, :wizard: for high grade syrup, though the real stuff is way too sweet for me! ;)

Hope you got a good night's sleep, Elin.

Jen, what's the latest update on the tornado damage? I'm praying there were no casualties! Did you wait up until your dad got home?

Tia, yay for "me" time. You do so much for your family...you need to treat yourself more often.

Tammi, sorry about dinner and science fair frustrations. I hope today goes more according to plan.

Elizabeth, good luck resolving things with State Farm!

Neat pictures Becky and Chanon.

What an emotional week for you, Robyn. I hope you're resting up a bit this weekend!

Thinking of you, Theresa!

Thanks for the update, Denise. Sending lots of :wizard: your way!

Jen, we need a wedding update! I'm sure you're exhausted!

Good morning to all! :wave2: Hope you all have a nice Sunday!

What a great recap, Amy! Hope you don't mind, but I am going to "ditto"! :thumbsup2

Good Morning DDA,

I'm trying not to let my medical bills overwhelm me, but when I got the statement for one of the three labs for bloodwork and it was $796.00, it took my breath away. It shouldn't be nearly as much after the insurance, get's a hold of it though, but this is just the beginning. I had put off scheduling my Smash and Bash because of all this, but since my deductible starts over in July I guess it would be wiser to get it done before then.

So to take my mind off of that I have started making November plans, since DHS is our favorite we always make it our first full day, well I don't think it will be this year as our first full day is part of Super Soap Weekends, :scared1: , looks like we may start with AK. I signed up for TGM yesterday, has anyone used him before, if so what do you think? I also went ahead and booked our flights, they went up $5.00 from the first time I checked them, and then the returning flight was already filling up. We had talked about driving, but I REALLY don't want to, so I went ahead and booked it.

DH and I made a HUGE mistake last year, we were in Atlanta for our layover when they asked for volunteers to take the next flight, by the time we hashed it out it was too late. We would have been on the next flight, only an hour later and we would have received 2 free roundtrip flights in exchange. I won't make that mistake again!

Tia - Yeah for Disney money, and yeah for ME time!

Debbie - I certainly hope insurance takes a HUGE chunk out of that bill. I would have freaked out, too! :wizard: :wizard:

I'm with Tammi and Elin - I use TGM, mainly for his best days and updates. I also like his party touring plans (MNSSHP and MVMCP).

Have fun planning!

And the grand total is......

Your pics were pretty impressive, too, Jennifer. I just have no idea how to even handle that sort of winter. I really hope we won't have to move to Chicago at some point for Jonathan's job. :scared:

So I gotta go I am probably gonna be late. I have a Girl Scout Sunday/Thinking Day event and then a SU meeting. I have already been warned the SU meeting is probably going to be a hctib session. Sounds like you could use a  , Becky! Hope today is better than you're expecting!

Well, that is good news! I'll be intersted to hear what kind of syrup you guys end up with. :goodvibes

Welcome to Sally! I'm Lindsay, and my DH is Jonathan. No kids as of yet, but we do have a little fur baby that keeps us company. :goodvibes We are big Disney people (I'm just slightly more obsessed than Jonathan ;) ), and try to get there as often as possible.

I have the pleasure of living in Texas where 2 inches of snow is a huge event ;) (which we had twice this week)! I'm also fortunate to have been able to meet many of these ladies in RL, and two of them, Elizabeth and Marci, live in the same area I do, so we get together occasionally (but not as often as we'd like) for lunch.

Your creations are amazing! Your nieces are very lucky to have you. :goodvibes
