DDA Chapter 3

Sounds good to me, Thank you Elizabeth!

Jennifer, Janet, Bernadette & Tammi - We are booked for dinner at Cape May on 8/14/08 at 5:45 PM. Our only other choice was 8:55 or separate tables. Hopefully that works for everyone! :thumbsup2

i hated PE with a passion--luckily , i didnt have to do much! I had surgery twice in high school so my doctor wrote a note and i didnt really have to do anything..i could have, but told the doctor it hurt so i didnt have to:rotfl: i got grades for walking the track and keeping track of score in the games

PE is mandatory here every other day from K through 12. The real pain is that in high school you need to make up any PE days that you miss even for sickness or if you have to leave early to participate in a varsity sport. For the kids (like mine) that don't have a study hall, it is very difficult. They have to go in early before the buses run, which means they need someone to drive them there. Fortunately, my kids are rarely sick and have gym early enough in the day that they don't miss it the few days that they have to leave early. When they are in season with a sport, they practice way more than they have PE, so I think missing one here or there shouldn't really be a problem. Also, one of the required units in high school is swimming. It's a pain to get ready for, and what they do in the pool really isn't worth it.

Jennifer - I'm going to play "mom" here! You get off your feet NOW! Don't mess around. It's very important for you to take it easy right now. Nothing is as important as those babies you are carrying. Take it from me, the house will still be there after the babies are born, and you don't need to be worrying about it.

Now, young lady, you go lie down for a while and RELAX. Watch a chick flick, read a book, take a nap, just get off your feet for a while. Do it now before I jump on a plane and come out there for the next few months and make sure you are taking care of yourself!!!!!

It's too late now, but I'll ditto this.

Any advice?

Nicholas got his report card today. They don't get letter grades yet, just numbers, so he is at where he should be, although he did get a comment saying that he makes careless errors because he works too fast and rushes to complete things. I've noticed this in the in-class work that he brings home. Any suggestions on how to get him to take his time and make sure everything is complete and correct.?

Elizabeth - I'm sorry about the whole locker ordeal. :sad2:

Give him another year or so to grow and mature. It's fairly common in boys that age. Of course, you should encourage him to work carefully, but I wouldn't put too much pressure on him about it at this age.

Good morning!

It was"Kids Night on Broadway" last night. Katie & I went to see Hairspray. George Wendt (from Cheers) was Edna Turnblat (the mom). He made the show..he was great. The rest was o.k. not a blockbuster but Katie absolutely LOVED it!! Thought it was the best thing ever. We got home at midnight & surprisingly I am not that tired..I guess it will hit me later!;)
That sounds like a lot of fun. We saw Hairspray in the theater and my kids like it.

We washed flame resistant material different amounts of time to see if washing it made it burn differently. They gave awards in all 3 grade levels in several different categories (life science, physical science, chemistry, etc.) so it was a lengthy process! The awards started at 5th place, but not every category had 5 winners. I wish we would have had time to go look at the projects but the evening was so packed we didn't have a chance.
So did the washing affect it?

Thanks for making the ADR.

I hope you're right!

I spoke with my parents tonight. My dad had a stress test yesterday and evidently their is a concern. He is going in Monday for a heart catheterization on Monday. This isn't the first one either. He had a mild heart attack about 18 years ago and has had further blockages on an off throughout the years. Luckily they have been able to remove them with stents and angioplasty. If you could send good thoughts/wishes his way I would appreciate it.

Although the Hearts On Fire diamond company did not budge on the salary offering, they did promise Kathrin a salary review in June if she "knocks their socks off" at her new job. She called the other company and told them she had accepted another job. She is beyond tickled, to say the least. Oh, and she told me that when I meet her new co-workers they will all be sock-less. :rotfl:

The plan is to find an apartment and roommate already in an area she is interested in and be moved in no later than March 15!

Congratulations to her on the new job and the terrific attitude!

Beth

You're welcome! :goodvibes I'm looking forward to it!
The number they gave me for group dining didn't work. The first CM I got tried to transfer me and I got disconnected. The second CM was REALLY confused on the dates and chatted with me for a really LONG time before she 1) finally agreed I couldn't book beyond 8/14 and 2) transferred me to group dining. The girl at group dining was quite efficient and got us booked with no problem! :rotfl:

Debbie - I hope your Dr. appt. goes well! :wizard:

Tammi - The results were really weird. The fabric that burned the longest was the sample washed 5 times, but I think that was a fluke. When we averaged the burn times of 3 samples there wasn't much difference between 1, 5, 10, and 15 washes. :confused3

Beth - Those PE requirements are insane! :scared:

YEAH!!! What area is she looking in? I found a couple of really good sites when I was first looking for roommates in Boston. Let me know if she needs any ideas and I'll see if I can remember what they were.

Princess has school today. Not much else on the agenda! We're supposed to have play group with the "clique-y" moms at a McDonald's but we will probably skip it. That particular McDonald's has the most inaccessible parking lot in town so I have never been inside, but Princess is too small to climb in those play scapes. Not to mention that the way they have play group timed means we encounter all the elementary kids as they get out of school.:scared1: We really need a new play group!

Sounds like it! However, why couldn't I ever find a playgroup that had that problem (timing with elementary kids)?!?! I couldn't get anyone to schedule something past 10am so that we could make it. Even when they were 3 and 4yo 10:30 was as late as anyone would do something.

Our elementary kids have PE every day. Middle School has it every other day, with a few health days thrown in there as well. High school has to have 2 semesters. Sports can count for 1 of those, but I don't think that it can replace both. Band must have been able to count for one as I only remember taking one PE class. Sometime in there, there is a swimming unit. For that reason, a lot of girls opt to take it during summer school so that they don't have to get ready after swimming.

Good morning, DDA!

Well, yesterday accomplished nothing as I volunteered to go with Kristi to vote so that she didn't have to get the kids out of the car, through the rain and corral Chase while trying to vote (she had to deal with address changes, etc so it was going to be more of a process). She ended up treating us to Chick-Fil-A as well since I was watching her kids that evening. By the time we got done, Phil and I went to vote, and the kids were here for a little while, the day was gone. Terra and I did manage to pick up the playroom though. It's been getting so crazy in here that we may need to oust some mroe stuff. Terra is going to work really hard keeping it clean for the next two weeks in an effort to avoid that.

Guess that means that today I need to get busy on birthday plans and basement cleaning! We do have a list of party games now so that's done. Just have to get the stuff ready for it and design all of the elements needed. Maybe I'll download the PhotoShop trial and give it a go on that.

I tried to post a lengthy multi quote last night and the site must have gone down.

 For Kristine

Tammi both my boys have gotten the same comments from their teachers for 2 years now. I know that Hunter "has" to be first getting everything done which is his problem. Nick just wants to get stuff done as he "hates" school.

Elin congrats for your DD.

I know that I had much more to comment on, but it escapes me at the moment.

:wizard:  To all.

I've set some new goals for myself. I am back on my diet, cutting way back on soda and limiting my computer time.

I have found that I am gaining weight, having heart burn again and I spend so much time on the computer that I am neglecting my other responsibilities. I was very good yesterday and did not turn my computer on until after work last night. That is my goal. I wouldn't have logged on this morning had I been able to post last night.

Hopefully I'll be more productive and feel better.

ETA: 3000th post. It looks like we will need a new thread very soon.
