DDA Chapter 3

The internet is so useful! I printed off the form to send in and get my OWN birth certificate!

Of course I had to call my mother back to ask her a question and she found my birth certificate, so she said she will send it to me. I might order one anyway, just so I have a nice fresh copy. ;) I must have given mine back to her after I got my marriage license. Which makes no sense since I had my own apartment back then.:confused3

Well, now if we decide to get passports I will have all the documents.

For you math wizards:

When you purchased your house you paid A$ for it. It is now worth more at B$. It has gone up in price at what percent? What would be the formala for figuring it out?

=(B-A)/A is the percentage it went up

For example, if I bought my house for 100,000 and it is now worth 150,000.

=(150,000-100,000)/100,000 = 50,000/100,000 = .50 = 50% more

Becky - I don't know. Did he have a SS#?

Probably, but I doubt that anyone has the slightest clue what it was. My Grandma was 17 when she had my Mom. The few details that are known I told you, my Mom really did not know until she started questioning my Grandma, and Grandma wanted to know why she wanted the info before she would divulge it. It is not really talked about much.

My Mom's Dad was never really involved in her life at all. The first two years of her life he was involved by popping in everyone once and awhile after that he was totally out of her life, except a random bit here and there. I am truly surprised that my Mom went to his funeral and one or two other relatives funerals related to him, because she did not really know them.

Up to my teens I was always told that he died on a boat, from a heart attack. Everyone failed to mention that it only happened in 1984, I always thought it was way before I was born. It has always been a hush, hush thing. So the fact that my Mom has mentioned all of this to me is quite unlike her.

Sorry for the way off topic with the family history.

Becky - Well, good luck getting the info you need! I am not good at tracking down that kind of thing. I am still basking in my success at finding the form to get a copy of my own birth certificate!:rotfl2:

Tia - I think the cake is starting to go bad. I have it in airtight containers, but not in the fridge or anything. It smells (and tastes) kind of weird now. It tastes like new plastic smells. At first I thought I was eating the section where the little plastic men had been, and maybe that was why it tasted that way, or maybe the container was making it taste funny. But another piece out of another container had that same taste. I think it needs to go in the trash. Besides, it is 4 days old.

Speaking of birth certificates...I can find everyones except MINE! Guess I have to go to the County Clerk tomorrow. I need to get this passport process going ASAP

BTW Tammi....I like your book! It looks great! For a brief moment I felt inspired to make one...the feeling has since passed!:rotfl2:

I'm throwing this out there to see what you all do...

Does salt go in the shaker with more or less holes?

It was a topic of conversation during our dinner last night with our friends. I've only done it one way my entire life. And they have it the opposite. Stupid I know, but now I'm curious!

Salt should go in the shaker with the most holes. That's the way my mommy taught me!

Hello, all! You have been very chatty since the last time I was on.

Last night I had another DDA dream, but this time I met Paul and Marti on a cruise. It was very weird, because I hadn't been thinking of any of those things before I went to bed. We'll never cruise, because I am sure that dh couldn't handle the motion.

It has been a rather uneventful weekend here. I'm in the mood to go to a movie today, but I'm sure that won't happen. Sometimes I don't enjoy being frugal (or having a frugal dh anyway). :rotfl:

No one here is all that interested in the Super Bowl (heresy, I know ;) ) Dh will probably watch some of it for the commercials.

I really, really don't feel like going to work tomorrow. Anyone have any good ideas for a part-time job for someone with little to no skills? I used to really love the preschool, but I think I'm burning out.

Enough of me! I'm going to go backwards and try to catch up with all of you a little. Then maybe I'll try a little of that digital scrapbooking that you are all doing so beautifully. You have me itching to sew again, too, but my machine needs a little work first.

Beth

Thanks, Kristine. Go for it! It really didn't take that long.

Well, I am DIS'ing from inside a huge snow cocoon! We got hit with a storm sometime last night. I woke up at 5:00 FREEZING!!! I checked the heat and found that one of my lovely children (or Alan and he's just not confessing) turned it completely off yesterday! I cranked it up, and went into the kitchen for a glass of water. Imagine my surprise/horror to find that our back door had blown open (after Alan swore to me he'd deadbolted it), and our floor was covered with 2 inches of snow. The snow was still coming down hard!!!

I decided to soak in a hot bubble bath to warm up, and by the time I got out, the kids were up, so we had breakfast and got ready for church. The snow was still coming down hard, and the wind was blowing terribly, too. Halfway through Sunday School, we were informed that the rest of church was being cancelled and we were to pick up our kids and go home before the storm got any worse (apparently, it's supposed to get twice as bad in about 3 hours). So, we got back in the mini van and headed for home. The snow was so deep that we got stuck trying to turn into our driveway. Thanks to Alan and a wonderful neighbor, we dug out our car enough that we could get onto the driveway. Alan is now snowblowing our driveway!

So, here we all sit, back in our snuggle jammies, with hot cocoa in hand, tomato soup and sandwiches cooking in the background! I cannot believe this weather. It's the worst winter we've had in close to 100 years. At last look, we have 12 new inches on top of the 8 inches that hadn't yet melted from the last storm.

COULD WE PLEASE HAVE SPRING NOW???????

Thanks, this is not the first time we had to figure something wacky like this out. Several years ago Grandma wanted to join us on a trip to Canada. She had no Birth certificate or proof of birth. We eventually figured it out so she could get proof of birth but it was not easy. She was one of 15 kids and was born at home, and they did not have much money, so her parents did not think it was not important that she have this information or documentation of these things.

She only got a gov. issued photo id like 4 years ago, and I took her to get it. We ended up at the DMV 3 times. She was missing information or did not have things she needed, like check or money order. We got that went right back to the DMV. She needed proof of residence and social security card or something. So I took her home and we went to a different DMV, with all the required things and we still could not get it. She needed it to fly. She has no credit cards, the bank she uses she has used for like 30-40 years, she has never driven, everything has been in a husband's name, she never went to college, didn't finish high school, etc. It was a total pain in the tush to secure these documents. I just do not see how she survived like 50 years without these things, but she did.

Glynis - That does NOT sound fun! :scared1:

Becky - I hope you are able to figure out the passport without too much strife!

Kristine - Good luck with your passport, too!

DH is home. He is cranky and doesn't feel well. His day is going to be a nightmare tomorrow, so he is already dreading that.:sad2:
