DDA Chapter 3

I know I have asked this before, but when you are going to a party or cookout and you are asked to bring a dish.
Do you get to pick the dish you want to bring or are you told what to bring?

Tomorrow is a cousin's 50th birthday party and I have been told as always to bring deviled eggs. Guess I should be happy that they are so popular.

Most of the time, you are able to bring whatever you want. However, if there is something that people really like, it isn't unusual for them to ask me to bring a specific thing.

I would definitely think they must like your devilled eggs. I know that is what my niece (from Chuck's side) always asks me to bring. She loves my devilled eggs.

Thanks for the Aiden update, Tia.

All the kiddos are growing up so fast...Aiden's almost a year-old, wow!

Happy 7-month-birthday to Lucy! :)

I was just thinking about Aidan the other day. Glad to hear he is doing well!

Lucy needs to just stop right where she is instead of picking up that nasty habit of growing like a weed that all the other kids have! ;)

Tia - Don't feel bad! The air is dry and her throat is probably just tickling. I agree that if she had enough energy to run around and wanted to make dessert she isn't feeling too horrible!
When DS had chicken pox DH took him outside to play ball the 3rd day he was home from school. He got overheated and ended up vomiting and feeling worse than he had the whole time he had been sick. I was NOT very happy with DH, but DS was fine a couple of days later.

Bernadette- His birthday is mid August, but it won't happen this year. He has no job right now. Hope your cranky one gets better soon. :wizard: Lucy is only cranky at night, the rest of the day she is her normal happy self. :confused3
My little one is just a bit cranky. It is my DH who is the crank and a half! Don't know if he's not feeling well or if he's just had enough of winter but it is getting old!

Speaking of recipes, I invented one of my own last night. I had potato chips in the house, and for me, that is bad. I can eat a bag in two sittings. I love chips! I've been known to crush party chip leftovers and dump the crumbs in the garage to avoid eating them! :rotfl:

Anyway, I crushed a half bag of chips, added a little pepper, and I used this mixture, instead of bread crumbs for baked chicken nuggets. I beat an egg and added a little milk to make a binding agent. Baked the nuggets for 20 minutes at 400 degrees, flipping once.

A little salty, but pretty tasty. The kids approved, too.

Robyn - We have tried to go to Gay Days twice and it just hasn't worked out. Last year I even had the room booked but the airfare was way too high so I canceled it. I can't remember if I have been to Lucky's for breakfast or not. I know I have been there for dinner. The lady in their corporate office who handles charitable donations was always so nice when I would call her about the AIDS walk that our whole committee went there one evening.
What does Joe do? Maybe I can scout around and help him with some networking!

ohhhh...I'll have to try that one....how long was it in the crock for???

Chanon, how much pork did you use? This sounds delicious, too!
Ummm....I used enough and for just about as long as it should cook.. ;) I really don't remember. It was on low for about...7-8 hours...and I bought a family pack of pork tenderloin and used a third of it.
I hope that helps some!
At least once, I would like to bring what I want.
Why don't you bring the deviled eggs AND what you want? If there is doubles of something...too bad! :teeth:

Amy love the new picture in your signature!

Thanks Janet. I ordered some Valentines during our recent visit to JCPenney. :goodvibes

Speaking of which, Glynis, what are your Valentine's Day foods again?

Ok, Glynis what is your pot roast recipe again. I want to get it written down so I don't forget it.

I think you need to patent your pot roast recipe...I've lost track of how many people I've shared it with! :thumbsup2

Janet, thanks for the oven version of the chicken recipe. I don't always have my act together for a crockpot meal! :rotfl:

I wish that I could take all the credit for that recipe. I found it in a magazine. I'll at least take credit for introducing it here.

Well now we want the recipe! :rotfl:

Ok. Here ya go:

Pizza Meatloaf Muffins

1 egg, beaten
1/2 C. pizza sauce
1/4 C. breadcrumbs
1/2 tsp. Italian seasoning
1 1/2 pounds ground beef
1 1/2 C. shredded Mozzarella cheese

In a bowl, combine egg, pizza sauce, bread crumbs and Italian seasoning. Crumble beef over mixture and mix well.

Divide between 12 greased muffin cups; press onto the bottom and up the sides. Fill center with cheese.

Bake at 375 degrees for 15 to 18 minutes or until meat is no longer pink.

Serve immediately with additional pizza sauce if desired.

I like to add some chopped pepperoni or olives to the indentation before filling it up with cheese.

Enjoy!

How totally cool! I bet it would be really good with barbecue potato chips!

Glynis, which should I try first...your Chinese pork ribs recipe or the sweet and savory ribs?

Can you all tell I didn't eat dinner tonight? I'm making myself very hungry with all this talk of food! :rotfl:

For breakfast I make pancakes with pureed strawberries in the batter, I pour them in heart shapes and serve them with strawberry syrup. I use strawberry Nestle quik in milk for pink milk or make berry smoothies.

For lunch I put valentine's day snack mix in their lunch boxes; chocolate teddy grahams, yogurt covered pretzels, honey roast nuts, m&m's, etc. all mixed together.

For dinner this year, I'm making heart shaped pizzas for the kids, and then after they go to bed, Alan and I will have stuffed artichokes with something chocolatey for dessert.

I like to put a heart shaped box of candy on the kid's plates at dinner. Alan will also bring flowers for the girls, and something boyish for Jacob. Gum or something like that.

The movie is over...bath time!

Elizabeth, good luck making your ADRs in the morning!

Karen, tell us about your new job some time soon! ;)

Hope everyone (especially cranky DH's) feel better soon!

Glynis, BBQ chips! You're a culinary genius! Seriously, you need to be the Food Network's next big star!

See you all soon! :)

Oh my gosh! This is so simple you don't even need to write it down!

Place chuck roast in slow cooker.

Mix together 1 envelope ranch salad dressing mix, 1 envelope italian salad dressing mix, and 1 envelope brown gravy mix. Add 1/2 cup water and pour over the roast.

Cook on low 6-8 hours or until meat is falling apart tender!

I like to add carrots, potatoes and onions to the crock pot, but I usually put them on the top so that they don't soak up too much salt.

I like the sweet and savory a little better. Alan likes the Chinese. It's all a matter of taste!
