DDA Chapter 26

Bernadette - I ended up ordering that same Disney Attention to Detail book for Nicholas. I'm going to give it to him as an early Christmas present before our trip. I hope it's fun!

DH & I went to an IEP meeting for Joe today. We were both very happy with all they've done/continue to do for him. They all really care about him and are helping him make a lot of progress socially. His teacher is absolutely perfect for him this year!!! All of his teachers have been very good but this one is really special. She really likes Joe and seems to enjoy the "challenge" of bringing out the best in him.

There was a thread on maybe the family board about when kids stop believing in Santa and one poster who was a teacher said she would think a 10year old who still believes must special needs. It made me wonder if I was doing Joe a disservice by "letting" him still believe. So I asked today about it and they all said they would let him believe for as long as he "wants" to. They said they tell the kids who bring it up in school that families believe/celebrate different things and that is a discussion to have at home with your family. His teacher said she thought about 1/2 of the kids in her class still believe. I know I was 6 so I have to say I'm surprised my kids still believe. Lizzy hasn't really said boo about Santa or what she wants for Christmas or anything so I think she must know or at least suspect.

Glad your IEP went well! A good teacher makes all the difference!!!

As to Santa, only my 2 oldest know the facts. We had to tell Katie when she was 10, but she told me she already knew, just didn't want to say anything in case she didn't get any more stocking stuff. We just told Jacob a couple of months ago. He, too, wasn't really surprised, just glad that he would still get stocking and Santa presents. Mostly, both of them were excited to be "in" on the magic, and get to help continue it for their younger siblings.

Heaven's no!
:scared1::laughing:

Good morning. :)

While my parents were down here we had our "Christmas" since I we won't be together for the holiday. I got a Kitchenaid Artisan Stand Mixer, which I asked for, so I guess I need to figure out what I'm going to do with it! They also gave me some money, so I think I'm going to get myself a 22" LCD tv for my bedroom. Nicholas got a Kodak Playsport underwater video/picture camera, which he will get to take with us on our trip! Alyssa got bunk beds for her American Girl dolls. But the hit was their Snuggies that they got!
Sounds like a nice Christmas! I love my Kitchenaid mixer but I haven't used it too much lately.

Hunter and Nick were both 12 when they stopped believing. Colby still totally believes.

I did not sleep well at all. I need to call my doctor as I'm out of the meds that they prescribed to help me sleep. I was hoping that I could sleep without it, but I swear I saw every minute of every hour pass by. It is going to be a loooong day today.
Thanks for the reassurance that Joe isn't the only nearly 10 year old who still believes!

:wizard:Hope your day isn't too bad and you can sleep well tonight.

Good morning!

I know its not THAT cold out but its cold enough to make me wish for summer! I hate going outside on cold days!
It is too cold! Feels like 22 here but I feel really bad for my friend Terry in Jacksonville. Feels like 24 there. Her house just isn't set up to take that kind of cold nor is her office-she's a profeesor and their office doors open to an outdoor walkway. It feels like 26 in Orlando but it will hit the 50s there today while it won't get out of the 30s here.

Bernadette,
Yes we did get a new room at POFQ. We had a corner room on the 3rd floor in building 7. The new decor in the room was really nice. This was my first time there & it was just beautiful & very easy to get around.

I still tell all my kids to make out a letter for Santa & will never "admit" anything .:lmao: My 2 older ones don't believe but Sophie still does (she will be 10 in 3 weeks). Let them be kids as long as you can. :goodvibes
Room sounds great.

I will let the magic live!:santa:

I'm 43 and I still believe! :santa:
:thumbsup2

Bernadette,
Hope your foot is getting better.
Thanks! It is so itchy! I thought the summer was bad with the heat but this dry skin in the winter is not fun!

Hope you have fun with it!

Looks fun! Who was the guy in your photo? Should I know him.

This is something that all my kids have asked for! So, Timothy is giving them to his siblings. They will be very surprised!

Not much going on here, today. Katie has her orchestra Christmas concert tonight, and Mary and I will go to that. Other than that, nada!

I'm going to start making cookie dough and freeze it, so that I can make plates of cookies quickly in the next couple of weeks. Up today are root beer float cookies, and chocolate chocolate chip.

Here's some pictures from our trip. If anyone wants to see them all let me know & I will email them the album.

Love the Osborne Lights picture. Can't wait to see them in person!

I am all for keeping my kids kids as long as I can. Lizzy complains (not too loudly....) that all the kids in school have cell phones and ipod touches and TVs and computers in thier rooms...I just don't see how those are needed for an 11 year old.

I think my kids believe in Santa because Santa brings them gifts I would NEVER buy them.

That sounds great too! I was thinking it would be easier to copy the images I am thinking of using onto something lighter than canvas. I'll have to try out different fabrics with my light box. I should work on it so I can make something to use as a momento of my 50th bday trip.

My kids were not allowed to have tv's in their rooms until they graduated from high school. They had stereos in there. They got their own computers in college. We did get them cell phones in high school so that they could call us when they were at parties & after school events.

My kids also believe in Santa because of the gifts. I told them one year that anyone that doesn't believe doesn't get a Santa gift. I still haven't heard they don't believe and they are 22 & 25 now. :rotfl2:

Have you guys heard Terry & Stephanie's story about walking the plank? I don't remember seeing them post it here. You all really need to hear that story if you haven't. I'm going to see if it was in a trip report.

Especially on the Dis! I am still shocked at what folks will say on the boards. I think sometimes they do it just for fun.

All 5 of the educators in Joe's meeting were 100% behind letting the kids believe as long as they want.

How old was Abi?

to be honest I am not sure.....but probably 11... That is when I blew all of them out of the water, tooth fairy, Easter bunny, Santa Claus. Cassidy was about the same. But they both could have known before then.

Though Abi did put she was Santa's biggest fan on facebook last week. :rotfl:

For those of you with 4 year old boys, do you have them in any kind of program? A friend of mine is trying to find something for her grandson to join. I have no idea what is available for that age or for boys.

I thinks that's the age that Nicholas started soccer. Maybe it was 5.

Anne Marie - I'd love to have the link to your pictures, please.
