DDA Chapter 26

Things are not so happy here today. Bob was laid off at work yesterday. It came out of the blue at the end of his completion of a huge project. It is also due to the company-wide loss of a national homebuilder's business. To say he is devastated is such an understatement. In the 39 years he has been in the workforce since college, he has never been laid off. He has lost his job before because of corporate takeovers, etc. But to be told he was the one they could "do without" more easily than any of the other designers that are left has been crushing to him.

Not sure where we go from here. He has to go into work later this morning to talk to corporate HR and they will discuss the package his boss insisted they put together for him.

My biggest concern at this point is the loss of all our insurance. My greatest happiness in all of this is that our daughters are not directly impacted by it.

Elin,:hug::hug:, I'm so sorry to hear this. You'll definitely be in my prayers.

Richie has been taking his cutback pretty hard, he was moved from management back to craft and the pay is significantly less. He's threatened to quit more than once, I finally told him that if he did he would find himself single again. The cutback was not his doing but quitting would be. I've been bugging him to find out about our insurance, he was under the impression that things would automatically move to the new coverage, well after taking matters in my own hands today I found that we had no coverage, thankfully I was able to get it straightened out but it's going to take up to four weeks before we get our new cards for prescriptions and doctor visits.

I hope that things work out even better for you in the end.

My husband is Disney crazy. My friends and family think that I am the Disneyaholic. Little do they know. Last night while I was driving home and talking with him, he said we need to review our budget while I'm home this week-end. Why, you want to know? Because he wants to see if we have enough for a vacation. When, you ask? December. And where would this vacation take place? Where else but Walt Disney World.

You just have to love a man like that! I don't know if we'll actually be able to make it in December. However, he says we have been getting a lot of Disney propoganda which has him thinking about how wonderful Disney when decorated for Christmas. Keep your fingers crossed for us.

Elin, I am so sorry to hear about this. We will keep you & Bob in our thoughts & prayers.

Thanks for all the good thoughts, everyone. They mean a lot to both of us. We were feeling a little better today after Bob went in and met with HR and got the details of all of this. They are being very generous and, although insurance will have to be COBRA, I think we will be OK for a while.

However, about 2 hours ago Kristin called me to tell me that her bank had been robbed. :faint: She is still with the police. I am so glad the stupid people who did this chose a Friday night since she is there alone M-Th. She just texted her Dad to say the police might have caught the two suspects. I hope that is true.

What a helluva a couple of days!

That's wonderful. I hope you can make it work. And I hope it coincides with when we are there!

O my goodness Elin--what a rough couple of days..Know that you guys are in my prayers

I'm glad you got things figured out on the insurance, Debbie. I'm sorry Richie is taking it hard. I have to agree with you on the quitting part though, that's pretty much what I tell Phil sometimes too.

My husband is Disney crazy. My friends and family think that I am the Disneyaholic. Little do they know. Last night while I was driving home and talking with him, he said we need to review our budget while I'm home this week-end. Why, you want to know? That propoganda really does it's job, doesn't it! I was watching the DVC webcast thing last night and it had me really wishing DVC was ever in the budget. Mostly, though, it just had me wanting to go even more.

I'm so happy that another family gets to enjoy something that is very special to our family.

And we do! We make it an average of once a month probably and all really love the recipe. :goodvibes:

I'm glad that the package is good. That always helps a little, at least. How scary for Kristin! I'm glad it was Friday too. :scared1:

Elin-it has been a craptastic two days for your family. I hope there is a light at the end of a very short tunnel.

OMG:hug::hug:I'm so very sorry for Bob and your family

I'm glad you jumped in and took care of the insurance.

That would be so nice for you.:wizard:

She must have been terrified. I'm glad no one was hurt

A little family pride from Phil's side on FaceBook today...

Week #10 is our nephew.

Amazing.:goodvibes

My day was a roller coaster today. I got my first paycheck. I had forgotten how many deductions are taken out and they haven't started deducting for insurance yet  I was pleasantly surprised to see that I already have a floating holiday and 9.2 hours of earned time accrued :cool1: The floating holiday has to be used by year end so I need to start thinking of when I can use that. Then, we had a company wide meeting this afternoon and found out that there was a big lay off. The entire San Diego operation has been closed which means loss of jobs for a dozen or more people. The White River Office took a huge hit, half the marketing staff, management, office help and one of the cofounders is taking an early retirement in an effort to cut costs and reconfigure the organization. No one had seen this coming so it was utter shock that resignated throughout the building. I'm so new, I really don't know anyone, but it is obviously a close knit family and watching the CEO announce that his cofounder and wife was stepping down as he totally broke down in tears was heart wrenching. I must say that I feel a bit of guilt being a new hire while people around me are being laid off. My department is safe as they need us to continue to generate sales. We are the first line of contact that potential customers have. I feel relieved to have a job, but now I wonder how secure it really is? We're giving up Chris' insurance starting Dec 1st and going on my plan because it is a much better plan for much less money. How long will that last :confused3 Then the day ended with news that one of the site visits I had set up has turned into my first sale. Apparently it is a record for new hires, it has taken well over a month for previous ISRs to get their first sale. It won't be official until the contract is signed, but it was a nice ending to my topsy turvy day.

Glad you had a good day today, Deb. Keep selling!!

Way to go on the sale, Deb! That's great. Sorry that it wasn't the best of days for the company as a whole, though.

Good morning, DDA! :sunny:

Jazz Festival today and seeing Kristin tonight. All that makes me very happy.

Hi all...

Elin, sending lots of good thoughts your way. I am so sorry about Bob being laid off. And I am so thankful that Kristin is safe after the robbery. What a scary situation. Lots of :wizard: for you all

Debbie, I am so sorry about Richie's job situation as well. Lots of :wizard: for you all, too.

Jennifer, so glad to hear your dad is doing so well.

Beth, I wish your SIL all the best as she faces this next challenge. :wizard:

Deb, Congrats on the new job!

Bernadette, I'll be thinking about you. I am sure you made the right decision in regards to the surgery. :wizard:

Jen, I've got my fingers crossed in your house hunting efforts!

To everyone else I've missed, :wizard: and 's

I know I've been AWOL for a long time, but I think of you all often and love to keep up with most of you on FB!! Life is busy with work, Girl Scouts and cheer (it has taken over our lives, it seems). I start back to college in January and am not quite sure how I'll manage but am excited about the challenge it brings.
