Tammi,
I am reading along. Would you do Universal again? I'd like to try it for my gang some day but the cost would be $500 for us 5 to get in & thats alot of Mickey money.

Tks everyone.

Anne Marie - no I would not go back to Universal. All three of us had the "been there done that" feeling, and we all three decided that we would stick with WDW. It was expensive for us, 3 tickets and one night hotel, but it was the kids Christmas present from me. We opted for staying onsite for the Express Pass, since we were only there for day and a half, which seemed to save us a lot of time. But going at a slower time, I'm not sure we NEEDED it.

Day 2 - Islands of Adventure

We were up and out early for the 8AM opening of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I think we were out of the room at 7:15, loaded up the car, drove to our secret pathway and walked the short walk to IOA, where we had to wait for maybe 10 minutes or so before they let us in. I think we actually were through the turnstiles before 8 and then it is a long walk through and around the park to were the HP section is. Only the WWOHP is open at 8, and only to resort guests. The rest of the park opened at 9.

We finally made it to HP world. The theming is truly amazing.

I read a lot in the US forums of the DIS so I would know how to tour, and knew that we needed to be in line for Ollivander's Wand Shop first. This was a HUGE disappointment. The premise is that a group is herded into the shop, the shopkeeper comes out, picks someone out of the crowd, and a wand chooses that person. The boy that got picked was absolutely boring. I read a lot of threads on the boards that say the person picked makes or breaks the show. If the person is a true HP fan, knows spells, and really gets into it, it is a good "show". Let me just say that I'm glad we only wasted 10-15 minutes on this. I would not stand in line for hours for this.

From there we made our way to the castle and rode The Forbidden Journey. After reading about how many people got motion sickness on this ride, I was worried, but it turned out to be fine.

After that we rode Flight of the Hippogriff, which is where Hagrid's Hut is.

I was surprised to find out that Alyssa was tall enough to ride Dragon Challenge, so she and Nicholas went on that. I needed to take it easy after FJ so I wimped out.

We even enjoyed a Butterbeer.

Day 2 Cont.....

It was now close to 9AM, and we beat feet out of Potter world. The masses were just arriving. I had made ressies for Breakfast with the Grinch for 10:15 I think, but they were able to seat us earlier so we went there next. It doesn't compare AT ALL to Chef Mickey's or Crystal Palace. Paltry.

After breakfast we went to The Amazing Adventures of Spiderman. Little did I know it was ANOTHER motion simulator. Alyssa was the only one brave enough to ride Dr. Doom's Fearfall. Both of the kids went to ride the Incredible Hulk Coaster, but Alyssa wasn't tall enough for this one. Strange, because this is the same height requirement as Dragon Challenge. She was annoyed.

We then walked through the superhero area, getting a few pictures. Alyssa wasn't thrilled with this but after a little bribing, as you will read about later, she got her picture with some hereos.

The next section of the park were the water rides, which we skipped, and headed to the Jurassic section.

IMG_1426.jpg

IMG_1427.jpg

We caught an afternoon showing of How the Grinch Stole Christmas, which was cute, and then decided we had had enough. It was time to head to Our Happy Place!!!

Thanks for all the cards everyone! We really enjoyed opening them. So many of you have sent pm's, messages on fb, get well or thinking of you cards, gifts etc. and I can't tell you how much it has mean to me. I have some nerve damage in my right arm so writing notes isn't easy as it's hard to read my writing. I apologize for not getting notes out or always responding and my typing isn't too great either.

For those of you who I had addresses for I did get cards out. Be sure and read the writing on the boys shirts. Randy had them wear them the day I came home from the hospital. The boys (all three) are being great.

I had day surgery today for my port for chemotherapy. It wasn't too bad. I was home by 12:30 or so and took a nap. Now up answering a few emails.

I hope you all had a great holiday, whichever one you celebrate, and that people who are getting snow are staying safe.

Hugs to you all!

Forgot to say -- we had a nice trip to WDW but I made a huge tactical mistake. We kept the same schedule I made 6 months ago and by dinner I was miserable. If I hadn't been so stubborn I would have sent the boys to dinner/illuminations/the carriage ride etc. and either had room service or had them bring me something back.

Our CM friends had me a hotel wheelchair so I had no cost with that, and most people were pretty nice and didn't look at me too funny. Of course, when they say how hard it was for me to move around they knew there was an issue and I wasn't just being lazy. For those of you who were there at the same time, I'm so sorry we couldn't meet up. Everything took twice as long since I'm still moving slower. I've decided I need a do-over for WDW and Christmas. I knew they would both be different but wasn't prepared for how I would feel physically or mentally with either one. I am in much better spirits today (maybe it's the vicodin!) and looking forward to my visit with my oncologist on Thursday. I am a lucky girl -- life could be so much worse so I'm going to suck it up, put a smile on my face and keep running over the speed bumps I need to get over!

What a positive attitude you are keeping! Prayers are with you through all of this.

We had a really nice Christmas. The kids loved the presents that we chose for them. Colby couldn't believe that he actually got a minibike :rotfl2: I was blown away by the fact that Chris went out shopping which is against everything he believes in :lmao: He bought me some really beautiful and thoughtful gifts. I got a coffee mug for work (he wanted tinkerbell, but couldn't find one). He bought me purple: earrings, scarf, heated throw, bathrobe, pjs, slippers, socks, turtleneck and purse. Tinkerbell: throw, christmas decoration and animated statue. I was so surprised to find things under the tree that I didn't know about. Colby also made me some nice things at school ;)

Yeah Chris! I also got some surprises under my tree. Chuck bought me some purple pj's and a purple leather purse. The girls bought me earrings, bracelet and a necklace with purple stones. We are saving for our Disney trip and flooring & paint for the house so we bought very little for each other. I bought him the Wagner Paint system he wanted and some Uncle John Bathroom Readers. The girls got cash and IOU's for a shopping trip and dinner & a movie.

I am enjoying the trip report Tammi. I love to read about new places but I'm especially looking forward to living vicariously through Our Happy Place portion of your trip. :lmao:

Everybody-Jennifer could use our prayers...I was at dinner when she texted that she was headed to the ER. Girls are fine, she however, has spiked a fever of 101-102 3 times since coming home yesterday afternoon.

Jennifer is being readmitted. They believe she might have endomitritis

We enjoyed Universal. 2 days was enough though. It is a trip we will probably do once a decade. We did everything that we wanted to while we were there. I find it much like SeaWorld, nice to visit on occasion, but not Disney at all.

I was hoping that you'd be feeling better by now. I'm sure Chemo will come with it's own set of side effects. Are you still working?

Jennifer is being readmitted. They believe she might have endomitritis

Oh no. That is not good. Please keep us posted.

Tammi - I am enjoying your TR! Thanks for taking the time to write it.

Marci - I was sorry we couldn't get together while we were all at WDW but completely understand. I also admire your outlook. It is hard to look adversity in the face and say "GO TO H E L L!" But you are doing it. You ROCK!

I have been thinking about Jennifer all night. I hope things have improved for her by this morning.
