Exactly. One of my favorite sayings with my kids is "Life isn't fair. Get used to it."

Kind of goes along with the "Every kid is a winner" mentality and no kid should be singled out for awards. I do believe that all kids should get a chance to play when they are younger but there are still players that deserve awards when others don't. I have a hard time with that. They are raising kids that think everyone should expect the same thing no matter how hard they work. If someone puts in more time, effort and work toward something then I do, then they should expect more than me. They are setting them up for much disappointment in their adult years.
Last day of school!!I will officially have a high schooler as of this afternoon!

Very true. Also, some people have innate talents that others don't. Laura worked as hard, if not harder, at swimming than a couple of her friends who were much, much faster. At the same time, she needs to put in less effort to get the same or higher grades in school. That is just the way life works. It isn't only effort that counts, and everyone isn't going to always be the same. I'm not saying not to put in the time, effort and work, but don't say "it's not fair" if someone who puts in less sometimes comes out on top. There are other times that you'll come out on top of someone who is working harder, too.
I should try that. I always just say "life isn't fair" and Emma always says "I HATE when you say that." Maybe she'll like the beautiful part.I tell my kids that life is beautiful but not fair.

Welcome home! Hope you had fun at camp!Hi, everyone! I've been slowly catching up since our trip. Sounds like there are some fun things happening here!
We had a great trip, and came home still loving each other, so that was a plus! The Disneyland surprise was everything I hoped it would be. The kids were so excited, and for those 2 days, Alan and I were "the best parents in the world!" I'm trying to upload pictures so I can post some here and on facebook. Hopefully that will happen tomorrow.
Today I'm off to day camp with Jacob. Actually, it's afternoon/evening camp. The Webelos are doing all kinds of fun things today: archery, bb guns, rock climbing, rockets, and catapults. Jacob is so excited! Me, not so much, however, I'll go and smile!
It's nice to be back, and reading about you guys! Take care today!

YAY! I have to say I'm not surprised it went well! One down 3 to goIt was pouring this afternoon and I thought for sure that no one would show up, but I was wrong. We had a fabulous turnout and it even stopped raining. The kids had a good time, the parents had a good time and we had tons of food. I was pleasantly surprised. Overall I think my first season was a success and next year should be even better. Now onto 8th grade things.
