I booked my first cruise excursion today! We are doing the Royal Dolphin Swim at Dolphin Discovery in Cozumel. They threw in a free manatee encounter, as well as giving me 20% off their advertised rate!

Woo Hoo. Sounds great. Wish I could have a manatee encounter.

Joe & I had a very nice trip but WAY too short!!!!

I hate to say that BWI did not WOW me.

While I was gone my sister called to say that the AmVets are going to name the function hall in memory of my brother on Memorial Day.

home Bernadette. I'm sorry you didn't like BWI, but very glad you had a good trip. The villas at AKL are really nice. The one bedroom comfortably sleeps five and has two full bathrooms. Very nice. That is really wonderful that they are going to honor your brother.

We are staying at BWV in October. We intend to walk/boat over to EPCOT. I know the hallways are long. They are huge buildings. I'm excited to finally be near Jellyrolls. I've wanted to go there forever. I'm also excited to be near the ESPN club on Eagles/Redskins game day!

Elin, in the vein of "appalling public school news", DH said that DISD has decided to address the budget shortfall by closing the alternative schools (where they send the kids who are violent/vicious/etc.) and just incorporate them back into the mainstream school population. Can I say AGAIN how thankful we are to have DS going to a magnet? Scary and dangerous for the kids AND the staff.

Hmm. I Googled to try to find more information on closing the alternative campuses and I can't find anything. I know there are 4 public meetings coming up so citizens can voice their concerns/opinions. The first one is the night of DS's band concert, which will be his very last band concert ever (unless he picks up some percussion classes at some point in high school). The other 3 meetings are all during our WDW trip. So I guess we won't be going to those!

Hopefully there will be outcry and they won't close them.

Well I spent the day at the hospital. one of the Dr.s and his troop of residents and interns came in while we were their. HE said his chest x-ray looked worse today then yesterday. They are doing daily chest x-rays. He was running a temp. which is not uncommon for patients who have just had chemo. Before I left they were putting him on a cooling blanket his temp. was 102. The Dr that rounded was one of the lung drs. he said he is afraid we are dealing with pulmonary lymphoma and if that is the case he will not overcome it. His oxygen sats were 90 to 93% all morning. They gave him the second dose of steroids at 2pm. He gets 5 days of them when ever he gets chemo. After that his sats were 95 to 97 with getting up to 100% and that was while they were putting the cooling blanket under him. The Dr. today said its all in God's hands on weather he lives or not.

I survived the day from H E double hockey sticks. After tomorrow I will not agree to take a Kindergarten class again. This class has not been made to follow any rules and act like a bunch of animals. The para in the room thought I was crazy for trying to keep order. I actually had one kid stick the eraser end of his pencil so far into his mouth that he threw up during circle time. Another girl managed to pull her tights down and underwear to the side so all her privates were exposed. The Para said that it was not the first time and blew it off Never again. I swear I would rather teach all of the 7th AND 8th Graders alone then take this class again.

WOW! What a disservice to all those kids. And their future teachers.

Bernadette,,,Please check into a few Podiatrists and ask questions. The reason I say this is because when I had my bunion on my right foot taken care of in 1977, I was in the hospital, had surgery, had a cast on for six weeks and had to use crutches. Then in 1995 I had my left one done and decided to have it done in the Dr's office. I could have gone to another and be put under "twilight sleep" but I trusted this Dr and he was a good friend of ours for many years.

During the procedure, I was awake and could hear things, but it was kinda neat. He used a pin to secure the bone after he cut it and then wrapped my foot up and I left wearing a flat sandal with a velcro strap. I was given pain meds and was told to set the alarm to take them every four hours, which I faithfully did for the first four days. Best thing I did. He also had me doing exercises the next day flexing my foot and that was also the best thing because I do notice the difference between the two feet in flexing. I didn't need crutches and was able to get around. I did have to stay home for the six weeks but it was sure a lot better than with a cast.

I haven't done any research at all on it. Thanks so much for giving me hope that there may be methods that aren't quite as horrific as I fear.

What a nice way to honor your brother.

I'm sorry you weren't overly impressed with BWI. The kids and I are considering that for our December trip.

It is a huge honor for my brother. He wasn't even a vet-he was the head of the "Son of Vets".

BWI was really fine. I just really wanted to LOVE it and I didn't. I would stay there again but not sure I want to in July.

Welcome home, Bernadette! I am sorry about your feet, and that the hotel wasn't great. I hope you are able to sort things out for July. You do know the Kidani 1 bedrooms have 2 full bathrooms? That would be nice.

I'm leaning toward Kidani. 2 bathrooms would be great, full kitchen, and tons of activities if Gene doesn't want to go to the parks.

Welcome back...sorry the BWI was not that great for you...in 2008 we had that room (satelite dish outside, service road) & what a hike it was too! We asked to move asap & did right there & then...sorry they made you wait a day...I agree the staff at the desk was not the best but the CL are nice. I hope you get your feet taken care of soon too. Sounds painful & you must be in tip top condition for July! GF sounds wonderful but I like what Elizabeth said about the 2 bathrooms in Kindani.

That first room was a hike! The lounge was actually a bit of a hike from the elevators. It was actually very nice and I think Gene would like it but I think I'm leaning toward doing something different.

Not enough time for recovery before July and then I'll be coming up on my SUPER busy time at work so I may have to wait. Maybe I should make find a doctor and try some non surgical methods for now.

We have a newish spot in town. I think I will venture out there this morning and bring a couple home for Kristin and me to share with co-workers on a gloomy and humid Friday. I have heard they are pretty pricey, so we'll see if they are worth it!

I found some articles about the district cutting back on special ed teachers (maybe as many as 70!) by using a ratio structure as opposed to a "minutes per student" that they use now. But I can't find anything in print about alternative schools being on the chopping block. I wonder if DH misunderstood, or if this is something that they are trying to keep under the radar until it is finalized?

I will have to ask him if he remembers what channel it was on.

Tia - slow down, woman!

I am! Yesterday's meeting was me standing around! Gotta love those. The other leader did most of the leading and all of the planning. I helped teach the songs, we had a snack and were out of there! One more week and all extras are done for the most part. I did my last comp shop yesterday so that is out too. Just extra kids from there on out which I find is much easier without all of the other stuff going on.

The Dr that rounded was one of the lung drs. he said he is afraid we are dealing with pulmonary lymphoma and if that is the case he will not overcome it. His oxygen sats were 90 to 93% all morning. They gave him the second dose of steroids at 2pm. He gets 5 days of them when ever he gets chemo. After that his sats were 95 to 97 with getting up to 100% and that was while they were putting the cooling blanket under him. The Dr. today said its all in God's hands on weather he lives or not.

I wish the news was better. We're continuing to pray healing prayers.

I'm getting ready to go back into the war zone. It's raining today so that should be the icing on the cake

Just came back from seeing Daniel's class play about weather. He was "Lightening". All dressed in black & he got to throw lighting bolts at his classmates. LMAO!

DS got his course suggestions for next year. They have him in 3 pre-AP courses, which is what is offered for freshmen. Placement is determined by test scores and current course work. Actual AP classes give you college credit, so there aren't any with that designation until later.
He is not in Dance or Spanish, which surprised me. They put him in Health (semester 1) and Personal Fitness (semester 2), and some Principles of Technology thing that goes all year. Those are required, so I guess it doesn't really matter which year he does the required stuff as long as he gets it all out of the way eventually. I think his Theater classes are all one semester so he'll hit 6 different ones.

I hope Laura's exam went well today!

Thanks! I'm just glad the exams are over. We won't get scores until mid-end July. These are the ones for college credit, though colleges all differ about what they actually accept.

Just got a call from my gyno that my pap was abnormal. She has scheduled a colposcopy & endometrial biopsy for me....I am trying not to worry but easier said than done.

I hope that the other tests all come back normal!

Apparently when I had the first round, some of the crystals might not have been settled and I just need to have a few more sessions. It is very frustrating and very tiring!!! It is amazing what I have read about Vertigo. Sorta like who knew??

I hope that the therapy works soon.

After a two hour delay dad's procedure went well today, his only complaint when he got to his room was that he was hungry.

I stopped by to see Dad after work today, only to find out he didn't get to come home. Seems he had a complication and won't be coming home just yet, I'll be heading to the hospital in a bit to check on him myself.

I picked up the paper work for my surgery today, my MRI results were in there, I read them but I have no idea what they said.

I'm scheduled to have arthroscopy of the left shoulder with manipulation under anesthesai\ debridement\ and subacromial decompression

Good luck with your surgery! I hope that your dad's complications were minor and he's at home now.

I'm sorry that the class was so much trouble! Our preschoolers have been a bit spirited lately, but we aren't letting them get away with anything. The other day we had four of them sitting on the floor in time out watching the rest of the class play outside through the glass doors. It was the only way for both of us to be in visual contact of all the students, but I think it also helped drive the point home about listening to the teachers.

DH can't remember what channel had that story. But they are apparently closing 2 alternative schools, and the teachers will have to re-apply for other positions in the district. He swears he heard this, yet I can not find ANY mention of it online.

We are having some HUGE storms right now. Hope it clears up before tonight.

This kind of behavior and the lack of interest in many areas of public education is why I no longer teach in public schools, Jen. I am delighted that you have found a school system that expects more of its students and its staff but my heart really goes out to Deb. There is nothing that can be done as a substitute when a classroom teacher has allowed this kind of behavior to take place for the past 8 months. It is appalling!

I know what you mean-I have heard of that behavior in schools and i still am shocked everytime i hear about it. i am so lucky to have my school and district. I am complemented frequently on my class when people come in my classroom and they are all listening or working quietly in centers.... and on that note....

Yes there will be pictures! My friend Mary K had trouble with plantar fasciitis after doing the segway tour. She tried some thing she got on the internet that is supposed to help stretch it out-not the elastic thing you wear at night-I think it was like a ball on a platform and you did exercises on it. Do you want me to ask her about it?
