DDA Chapter 22

So I decided to look it up...and have gotten somewhat cold feet...not because I think my marriage is salvageable more because I hate admitting defeat or that I made a mistake. :guilty:

Whatever you decide to do, we will be here for you. You need to do what is right for you and the girls. Take things one step at a time. The option to go through with it will be there tomorrow, or a week from now, or a month from now.

Please do not feel you are admitting defeat or like you made a mistake.

It was most likely the right thing to do at the time. People change, grow and evolve all the time. This process sometimes brings people together other times it pulls them apart.

:wizard: to help you through this whatever you decide.

Thanks to everyone for the hugs and well wishes! :goodvibes

Matthew seems to be doing great up there! I messaged with him a little on Skype last night. We didn't talk, just IM'd. Laura has texted with him a few times today. Today is move-in for almost everyone else. He met his roommate briefly and said that he seems nice. Then he left the room to give the roommate and parents a little space and privacy. His girlfriend also arrived today, but he felt that she and her parents needed space and privacy, too. The only concern left is getting his classes/schedule straightened out (which can't happen until tomorrow) and then getting books. This school is a little weird about doing schedules. They have a "default" first semester schedule in each major for freshman. After pulling all of Matthew's AP courses out, he is left with a writing course, a mandatory seminar from his department, and honors seminar for a total of 5 credits. Now he needs to fill that out to at least 15 credits. He was given credit for Chem I and II, but he may take Chem II anyway instead of going straight into Organic Chemistry. He was given credit for Calc I, and I think he decided not to retake that but to go into Calc II. I think he also needs Physics. He took the AP in that, but it wasn't for calculus based physics. My biggest concern is books. Classes start Monday. I don't know if we'll have time to order books online. I didn't want to leave him with enough cash to go to the book store. He couldn't get a credit card without a schedule that showed he is a full-time student. The credit union lady advised against a ATM or debit card, since he is getting a credit card so soon. The credit card will become the ATM card. We definitely should have pushed for the ATM card, but hindsight is 20/20. It will all work out. He is close enough that I can drive up there for a few hours to give him the cash or put the books on my credit card. We just have to wait to see what tomorrow afternoon brings in the way of a schedule.

I never bought books before my classes started. In my experience, we never needed all the books on the list at the bookstore. Some were optional. We also had the first week to add and drop classes so some students, might not have even registered until the end of the first week, so they would not even attend class until the second week.

But this was my experience. It varies from school to school.

If we're going to meet before dinner I'm going to pass on Yachtsman,
the menu doesn't really appeal to us and the prices are a bit extreme, that being said, if this is the get together then count us in and we'll find something that will do on the menu.

As much as I would love to, I won't be eating at Yachtsman either, Debbie. After we all get together I will head back over to AKL to meet up with my "other" friends.

Tammi - I am glad your Mom willl be with you to celebrate your birthday!

Anne Marie-Sleep is for whimps! Hope you get a good night's sleep tonight! OH....and I keep forgetting to tell you I got 7 $25 gift cards in the mail this week from Disney for the AP's! I'll have to buy you a Dole Whip the next time I see you. I'm wondering if I have enough um.....balls to call and demand to know why I didn't 8.:rotfl: I wonder if they didn't send me a card for the purchase of my AP or if they didn't send me one for the AP I purchased seperately for Lizzy. I'm thinking they messed up Lizzy's at Epcot because they didn't seem to know what they were doing and they tried to tell me I couldn't use it.

Congrats on getting the gift cards!! We had a rather long experience getting the discount on our upgrade tp AP's. Seems like not all CM's are trained to use that discount. Thankfully we got a CM finally that knew what he was doing.

Good luck with the car!

Tammi,
:woohoo: for your mom joining you!

Theresa,
:hug::hug::hug:

Beth,
:thumbsup2 for Matthew settling in.

Janet,
How are you & Riley feeling?

Jen,
:thumbsup2for getting your classroom ready. Have fun skydiving!

Glynis,
:wizard:for the training & new work at home opportunity.

Tom,
Hope Leighanna's first day went well. Thanks for posting her picture.

Kristine,
:wizard::wizard: for Jackie.

Elizabeth,
Hope DS is enjoying his first week of school & you can get him out of ROTC.

Good morning, DDA!

Bernadette - I am glad the car process is moving along!

Tammi - Yay for your mom going to WDW with you!

Jen - Yay for having your classroom ready!

I need to decide if I am going to e-mail the guidance counselor or go tot he school inperson. I guess I will e-mail her now and go to the school tomorrow if things still aren't resolved.

Anne Marie we are both doing better. I must have slept wrong last night, when I stepped down this morning my toe was tender. Riley is healing well & all his wounds have scabbed over. Hopefully his scars will not be bad.

Thanks for asking!

Janet, when the cat scratched DS's face we used Neosporin on it and it has healed with just a tiny, hairline scar. I didn't even know there was a scar until I was looking at him in full sunlight one day. Mederma is also really good for scars. One of my former charges had skin grafts on his fingers and we used the Mederma for that.
Glad you guys are on the mend!

Good morning, everyone!

Elizabeth - I don't know if I would rely on an email. At this point, things are probably still pretty hectic around the school, and the counselors may just ignore their email until things settle down. I'd go and be the squeaky wheel, until they get the change done. Even one more day could be really bad for C! Good luck!

I know I had more to say, but I can't think of it. Early morning brain!

The family and I are heading to my dad's house tonight and won't be back until Saturday afternoon. A play that my dad has written is being "read" by the theater company. It's a chance for dad to get his work semi-performed in front of an audience so he can see what works and what doesn't. After the performance tomorrow, there is a "talk back" between the actors, the audience and dad so he can take notes on the whole thing. He is really proud of this play, and is looking forward to this as the next step to getting it published and produced. I'm so glad he's found this, as it is really helping him not miss mom as much.

Anyway, I wanted y'all to know why I'm dropping off the face of the internet again. Although it's only for a day and a half.

I wonder if they are going to extend the free birthday stuff into Jan.? Prob. not. Maybe a bigger, better promotion will be out there.

it seems to me that the last few promotions have lasted 18+ months...so you might get lucky.

(WDW turns 40 in 2011...I am guessing that will be the next big promotion)

I forgot to mention that I tried to book our DVC ressie for next July. We want to do the week in the tree house villas. Unfortunately only the first 2 days are available so we are wait listed for the other nights. I was thinking that it was 11 months from the last day of the ressie rather than 11 month + 7 days :headache: I'll give it 4 months for the waitlist then I'll change to OKW if it hasn't come through.

pixiedust: that it all comes through! I remember when the Treehouse Villas were new and how badly I wanted to stay there. They still hold a lot of appeal for me.

That explains it. I was remembering a SUNY, but also remembering Syracuse. A former friend went to Syracuse so I spent some time there several times a year for a few years. That's nice that they have the benefit of sharing with another college since I'm guessing that SUNY isn't very big? (Could be wrong though!) I like the Syracuse campus and that area. Though, I could do without some of those hills in the middle of winter! I had never seen a town that had handrails on the sidewalks before. Once I saw those sidewalks coated in ice, I got it!
You are very right about that. They will tell you, though, that they actually have the largest SUNY campus and one of the largest in the world. ;) That is because they own many, many acres in the Adirondacks for the Ranger school. Matthew loved the mix of the very small school with the benefits of the bigger school right next door. SUNY has a similar set-up with their Ag school at Cornell. I can tell you that the price is much better.

My classroom is officially done!!! Now i can stay away from the classroom til Tuesday, wehn teacher meetings start.
Tomorrow i have nothing but renewing my license, which could take forever anyway! I got some bad news about a friend so trying tod eal with that right now.
Other than that, just hoping that the weather stays good for saturday and skydiving~!!!
YAY for a finished classroom! :woohoo: I have to go in and do some work today starting the classroom. I hope the license renewal goes more quickly than you are expecting. :wizard: for good skydiving weather.

No. We were talking on the phone the other night and she asked when our next trip was going to be. I told her January, and that just the kids and I were going. The kids mentioned something to her about having space for one more person in our room. I emailed them all the info today...flight price, where we were staying, the Sunrise Safari info, ticket prices. My dad called tonight to tell me to go ahead and make her arrangements. This was the least amount of arm twisting I've ever had to do with them!
That is great news! I am sure that your trip will be magical!

Thanks for the information! That is what he was thinking originally, but we're still a little nervous about the whole thing. His RA has offered up her calc book if they are still using the same one. I think they have a two week add/drop period. I guess I'll know more today after he meets with his advisor and sees what he can get into.

Good morning, everyone!

I told DS I would see if I get a reply today. If I don't, then tomorrow I will go in person. The district rep told me to give the counselor until Friday, so this way I am sort of giving her until Friday. But not exactly. ;)
DS got his "creed" that he has to memorize. I see they have amended it from the creed the high school ROTC classes use. The wording of the middle school creed is just about leadership, personal responsibility, patriotism, that sort of thing. Nothing controversial. If he has to finish out the week in ROTC I can't imagine it would hurt anything.
He did say they had to fill out some sort of medical form yesterday. I kind of think medical forms are better left to the PARENTS, but whatever. Hopefully we can get a new schedule implemented by Monday.

Sounds like you have a fun weekend coming up! Kudos to your dad! :thumbsup2
