DDA Chapter 22

OK, HONESTLY, do I look old enough to have a 3 year old GRANDDAUGHTER? :scared1: Considering that Momboss is only about 5 years younger than I am, I wouldn't think her co-worker would assume I am Princess's GRANDMOTHER. We saw this lady at the mall, and she recognized Princess. Fine. Then she asked me if I am the GRANDMOTHER! Um, NO, but thank you so much for thinking that!

I suppose if I had Momboss when I was 18, and she had Princess when she was 18, and now Momboss is 21, then yes, I COULD be Princess's grandmother. But really? :sad2:

It sounds like Momboss's co-worker is one of those with business smarts, but no common sense... I have several like that in my office...

I just got a call, the aunt that was diagnosed with lung caner - hospice has been brought in.

I'm so sorry.

You know if i saw Emmitt, I would be following :goodvibes:

Im sorry Heidi

Im home and unpacking now :)

I posted that for you and Denise! I knew you could appreciate it. And for the record, the only one I run in to is his lovely wife. So I would probably be following him as well...

Debbie, I need to borrow your "beating head on the wall" smilie. :headache:

DS's schedule is a bit of a mess.

He is to have math as early in the day as possible, per the neuropsych. He has mth 5th period.

They put him in PE AGAIN. The SAME, IDENTICAL, 1st semester PE he took last year. Idiots. He signed up for 2nd semester Boys' Spring Athletics.

They are not doing Language Arts and Reading as separate classes this year, which left him with an open elective slot. So they put him in ROTC! That is NOT an appropriate place for him.

I called the guidance counselor, who of course is so stressed that her head is about to pop off. I told her 1) He WILL be moved to an earlier math class (like 3rd period) 2) He will NOT repeat the same PE he has already done and 3) He will NOT be in ROTC. We never requested that and we were not given ANY other options. They WILL move him to Spanish, or Art, or Office Assistant or some other elective that I deem acceptable. She told me to call back Thursday or Friday. I think I will go in person. With the written report from the Dr. And I will situate myself in her office until she FIXES his schedule. The math thing is absolutely critical. I might be willing to let the PE slide, but they HAVE TO move him to the 3rd period math.

Apparently LOTS of kids were dumped into ROTC because that's where there was room. And of course that teacher sent NO info home today, so I can't really determine what will take place in that class. It IS a year long elective though, so I would prefer to get him out now.

Oh no... not good, not good. What a pain!

Hi, everyone. Sorry, I didn't check in again yesterday! I missed all of Lindsay's posts!

Lindsay - I'm so thrilled that Austin has stayed put for you! Congratulations, you are almost there! Don't worry overly about the surgery. It really isn't that bad. Just listen to the nurses as they tell you how to get out of bed, and all that good stuff. Also, as soon as they will let you, walk, walk, walk! It really speeds up the healing! As soon as the numbness in my legs wore off, I was pestering them to let me walk.

Theresa - Any news on the dr.'s office??? I'm so sorry that things are yucky for you, right now! You are in my prayers!

Kristine - Sorry about the missed bus! How did Jackie like her first day of High School?

Tammi - Enjoy your last 2 weeks of summer! They will fly by so quickly!

Jennifer (tink) - I'm with you! Alan and I never let having a baby affect the way we did things. In fact, we took Katie to her first movie at 6 days old. She slept through it all, and it really took a lot of the fear out of parenthood for me. I realized that it's relatively easy to deal with an infant, as long as you are prepared. Taking Timothy to DL this summer was not as bad as I feared it would be. Of course, he wasn't mobile, so he really didn't mind being in his stroller for long stretches of time. It would be a bit harder, now.

Jennifer (blue eyes) - Welcome back from Texas! It sounds like you had a great trip! Good luck on your school starting up again. I'm assuming you'll be heading back to the classroom to start preparing soon, right?

Heidi - I'm so sorry about your aunt! Lung cancer is so cruel! By the way, thanks for the pierogi casserole recipe! My kids loved it so much! It is definitely a keeper for us!

Well, today was Katie's first taste of all the homework she is going to have over the next year (and into the future). She was a bit overwhelmed until we sat down and broke it up into manageable portions. I'm pleased to say she had all the science, math, English and keyboarding homework finished in under 2 hours! She still has some chapters in her English novel to read, but wants to do that at bedtime! I'm not worried about that girl reading!

The other kids came home with their first homework of the year, too. We managed to get it all done, without too much fuss, but I can see that Jacob is going to fight me to put it off. Our rule is to get it done right after school, and then you can play. Of course, he wants to play first and do homework later. Not a chance, bub!

I take Timothy for his 9 month checkup tomorrow. I'm anxious to see how much he weighs, etc. I can't believe that he's almost 9 months old! Crazy! That means it's been almost a year since my mom passed. That really seems odd to me! I still find myself picking up the phone to talk to her. I don't think that will ever stop, though. I've been quite sad about it lately. It's so sad to me to watch Timothy reaching all these milestones, and not be able to share with my mom. She was always so interested in the kids. I know she's still watching over us, but it's not the same.

Anyway, sorry to be a downer! I'm just grateful to have this group to turn to when I need a pick me up!

Glynis -- I know a lot of us understand. It seems to hit me when I least expect it. But it sounds like you're done a terrific job of working through it. From everything you've written before and after she passed, it seems she would be extremely proud of you.

And Timothy almost 9 months. Wow! Time does fly by.

I can't believe he is almost 9 months old either! And I still pick up the phone on my way home from work and start to call my Mom. It has been over 3 years and I still want to talk to her. Actually, I do talk to her and my Dad a lot. They ground me sometimes. And they talk back occasionally so that is a nice return. An example:

I had someone comment on my name recently and I told them how it was kind of a mistake but that my parents decided they liked it.... Kathrin and I were in an antique store on Friday and the most unexpected thing happened. I was walking past a booth and on top of a case was a pair of bookends with a book sandwiched in between. It was a small book but it caught my eye for some reason. I almost jumped out of my skin when I saw the spine: Elin's Amerika! I could hear my mother saying it plain as day. She was an elementary school librarian and a junior high school history teacher and had used this book for many years before she ever met my father or had me. She loved the book and when my name came on my birth certificate spelled the way it is, my parents decided to keep it. The copyright on the book is 1941 and it is in pristine condition. What a wonderful addition to my library and a fond remembrance of something I had forgotten.

That is really cool! What a terrific keepsake. :goodvibes

What a wonderful story! What a treasure to have. I still talk to my mom, too. I know she's with me, but I just wish she was here in person!

I know. I wish she were with you too.

And, Marci... that goes for you too.

And that goes for you, too, Elin. :goodvibes

my day was a particularly fine piece of poop...Jim stayed home to "fix" the car. There is something big wrong with the piece of metal. Which of course I got 8 uninterrupted hours with the :rolleyes1:rolleyes1:rolleyes1:rolleyes1. He then got into a shouting match with Cassidy and wouldn't leave the house when I asked because it had escalated to a point I didn't feel safe with...so I threatened to call the police...he then said he was tired of us treating him like a child...hold a mirror up dude!! He finally left...and of course when he comes back he acts like nothing has gone wrong. I am spending the day tomorrow figuring out how to get out of this particular hell sooner rather than later. (Though I know it isn't soon enough)

I then went to the marketing & graphic design for a small business meeting of Mommy Meeting. Though I felt most of the meeting was disorganized....or maybe I should say not run the way I would like...the information given out was awesome!! I also heard...It's a Small World....as one of the other mommies there is the wife of the middle school band teacher. I told her I was thrilled to finally be able to introduce myself to her after 6 years of sitting behind her in concerts:rotfl2: I think I may have my first client.:thumbsup2 We discussed facebook and how I wouldn't friend her husband until after he wasn't a teacher for my kids anymore..she agreed. All in all it was another sign that I am supposed to be doing this.

I didn't hear from the dr's office(but Jim was also putzing on the phone for hours)...I won't get too worried until I don't hear from them by Wednesday. I sent a Thank You note to this particular office because I really want this job.

Elizabeth - I forgot to comment about C's school schedule! Yikes is about all I have to say! You go be the mother bear and get him the best schedule possible. They should listen to you since you've got the letter from the doctor. At least about the math! As for the ROTC, I really don't know what to say! Good luck, and I can't wait to hear how the saga plays out.

Theresa - I saw on fb that you had a yucky day. I take it the dr.'s office didn't pan out? Sorry about Abi's notebook. That is awful! I know that Katie would be lost without hers!
Lindsay - Happy birthday tomorrow! I'm not sure I'll be on much, and I want to make sure not to miss it. I've missed enough around here as it is.

Well, it's off to fight the end of the day battle, for me! We have jobs to finish, teeth to brush and reading to do!
Night all!

Abi will now have to recreate the 5 days of work that has been done AND recreate the book she couldn't even do her homework tonight because she didn't have it....people (esp. teens) are idiots!! It's not going to do them any good as it's an accelerated notebook.

Jennifer (blue eyes) - Welcome back from Texas! It sounds like you had a great trip! Good luck on your school starting up again. I'm assuming you'll be heading back to the classroom to start preparing soon, right?t!
Thanks! I got the majority of stuff done in my classroom before I left, but I am going in first thing tomorrow to hopefully finish it up. If I can get it all done, then ill be able to just relax a few days before the teacher meetings begin next Tuesday!
I posted that for you and Denise! I knew you could appreciate it. And for the record, the only one I run in to is his lovely wife. So I would probably be following him as well...

I appreciate the posting..i have always loved him..i told my dad that I need to teach at that school :)

I am posting this early in case I do not have time in the morning.

Lindsay I hope you have a wonderful Birthday!

too cute Janet. I hope you and Lindsay have great birthdays tomorrow.

Even in the DOD schools ROTC is only an option at the High School level and I've only heard of one school where it's not an option but a requirement...Air Academy in Co Springs...which is affiliated with the Air Force Academy. I don't know of but a few local HS that have ROTC as an option so ROTC in the middle school is very foriegn to this military brat.

I am sorry you are having so much trouble with DS's schedule to start the school year.

Abi's math notebook has been stolen:headache:

oh no!

Thank you both.

I can't believe this will be the 4th sibling that my mom has lost. There will be only 5 left, that includes my mom.

I'm so sorry, Heidi. I hope that she isn't in too much pain. :wizard: :grouphug:

Debbie, I need to borrow your "beating head on the wall" smilie. :headache:

What a mess!!! I hope they are able to get his schedule fixed ASAP! The math is bad enough, the PE - stupid, but the ROTC...now THAT is insane! Totally not acceptable, I agree. Phil says that democracynow.org is always looking for stories and might be interested in hearing about it if you run into any trouble.

I take Timothy for his 9 month checkup tomorrow. I'm anxious to see how much he weighs, etc. I can't believe that he's almost 9 months old! Crazy! 9 months already?!?! Wow, I can hardly believe it. I totally understand about your mom, though. I had my phone out ready to call my grandma tonight and didn't even think about it. You right though, it's just not the same knowing she's watcing over us.

I had someone comment on my name recently and I told them how it was kind of a mistake but that my parents decided they liked it.... That is too cool, Elin! What a find!

too cute Janet. I hope you and Lindsay have great birthdays tomorrow.

Happy birthday Janet and Lindsay!!! :dance3:

Theresa - Good luck with both your business venture and finding a more tolerable situation. :grouphug: So sorry about Abi's notebook on top of everything. I hope she doesn't have too much to make up in it. :(

How cool!!!!!

I went to look at beds at lunch. I found one I liked and spent a lot of time showing Joe a million beds on line tonight. He wants some big sleigh bed in a color that won't match his dresser and he doesn't like the night stand or desk that go with it. I just don't think it will fit in the room. He ended up saying he liked the one I had picked out. I think we'll get him the night stand and desk with hutch too.

After work I went to look at Toyotas. I sat in an ruled out the Rav4 and Highlander. I test drove a the 4cyl Camry, 4 cyl Venza, Avalon and 6 cly Venza. I really liked the Avalon but not sure it is a good fit for us. I'm thinking of the v6 Venza or another Sienna mini van but in front wheel drive not AWD. DH has to test drive them so we can make a decision.

I talked to the garage about towing the old Sienna there. They told me what it would cost to run diagnostics and that it would be OK to have say the Salvation Army come pick it up there if we decide it would be best to just give it away rather than pay to get it fix for a trade.

Well, I do believe my bed is calling. I spent about four hours on the computer today, but managed to get a lot done at least. I still have many more hours to go probably (trying to get Scout, school and house stuff under control for the year), but at least I got a good start today. It's like a want to create a personal "retreat" day where I can go away for a day :tiptoe: with all of my schedules, projects, papers, lists, etc and just get it all worked out. Hmmm, wonder if I could ever actually manage such a thing...:scratchin . I doubt it, but it would be pretty cool.

Well, tomorrow's another day so I guess I had better wrap this one up.

Night all!

Thank you.

Heidi,,,,,:grouphug::hug:

Heidi....I'm sorry. My dad died of lung cancer, eventually with hospice. I hope she won't suffer long and that a peaceful release comes quickly.

Thank you.
I am a little worried about her son that she lives with, it hasn't been that long since his dad died, and now he is losing his mom.

Thanks and yes it does. Like I said in another post this is the 4th sibling and they all died of cancer, plus mom had breast cancer. So I am beginning to think that is how all of them will go.

Heidi-:wizard: to you and your family. Pardon the expression but cancer sucks.
