DDA Chapter 22

I got another 2 RSVP's today. But still have lots of unknowns.

I need to finalize the menu. Get food and paper supplies. Favors are simple fancy chopsticks and fortune cookies, they are already bought.

The D23 expo looks awesome. I will just need to live vicariously through all the blogs, podcasts, etc.

Heidi-:wizard: to you and your family. Pardon the expression but cancer sucks.

This is a little odd... I was beside a car at a light today and the license plate was:

CANCER SX

Of course the whole thing was quite bizarre as the woman driving the car was smoking up a storm. :confused3

Ok, and now I've held it in long enough............ROTC! :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: I didn't even know they still had that! And I can just see DS doing this:

Yes. That. On the black asphalt, when it is over 100 flippin' degrees outside. When he didn't WANT to be in it to begin with! That is precisely what I need. For him to be in ROTC 7th period so that any shred of energy and focus he has left will be completely GONE by the time he gets home to start his homework. NOT happening. Not. Not. Not.

I take Timothy for his 9 month checkup tomorrow. I'm anxious to see how much he weighs, etc. I can't believe that he's almost 9 months old! Crazy! That means it's been almost a year since my mom passed. That really seems odd to me! I still find myself picking up the phone to talk to her. I don't think that will ever stop, though. I've been quite sad about it lately. It's so sad to me to watch Timothy reaching all these milestones, and not be able to share with my mom. She was always so interested in the kids. I know she's still watching over us, but it's not the same.

Anyway, sorry to be a downer! I'm just grateful to have this group to turn to when I need a pick me up!

I can't believe he is almost 9 months old either! And I still pick up the phone on my way home from work and start to call my Mom. It has been over 3 years and I still want to talk to her. Actually, I do talk to her and my Dad a lot. They ground me sometimes. And they talk back occasionally so that is a nice return. An example:

I had someone comment on my name recently and I told them how it was kind of a mistake but that my parents decided they liked it.... Kathrin and I were in an antique store on Friday and the most unexpected thing happened. I was walking past a booth and on top of a case was a pair of bookends with a book sandwiched in between. It was a small book but it caught my eye for some reason. I almost jumped out of my skin when I saw the spine: Elin's Amerika! I could hear my mother saying it plain as day. She was an elementary school librarian and a junior high school history teacher and had used this book for many years before she ever met my father or had me. She loved the book and when my name came on my birth certificate spelled the way it is, my parents decided to keep it. The copyright on the book is 1941 and it is in pristine condition. What a wonderful addition to my library and a fond remembrance of something I had forgotten.

Hmm. It seems the ACLU is not terribly fond of the "Corps Cadets" in middle school. I will file that away in my brain. I really don't understand how they can just ASSIGN kids to be in a class that is essentially a military recruitment tool. There HAS TO BE an opt out for this.

I just did a search on my new book. I am very pleased. It appears to be a first edition and in collectible condition. I paid only $9 for it and it sells for more than 5 times that amount in this condition. The photo below is not mine. My copy has no marks on it at all.

How touching! :goodvibes

Good luck, Elizabeth. Try to put it away until morning.

Welcome home, Jen.

Glynis - I'm glad Katie got all of her work done. I so don't look forward to those days.

How was it for all the other first dayers?

Elizabeth I hope you get ds classes figured out!

Glynis

Elin what a wonderful find :goodvibes

I am posting this early in case I do not have time in the morning.

Even in the DOD schools ROTC is only an option at the High School level and I've only heard of one school where it's not an option but a requirement...Air Academy in Co Springs...which is affiliated with the Air Force Academy. I don't know of but a few local HS that have ROTC as an option so ROTC in the middle school is very foriegn to this military brat.

I am sorry you are having so much trouble with DS's schedule to start the school year.

Abi's math notebook has been stolen:headache:

They don't call it ROTC, but that's what it is. They call it Cadet Corps or Corps Cadets or something like that. Apparently it is only at the middle school level in 4 or 5 states. The ACLU says it violates some sort of treaty that protects children from military recruitment under a certain age? Anyway, it is COMPLETELY out of line to place kids in it without the kids WANTING to participate. DH's high school had ROTC, but mine did not.

I am sorry about Abi's notebook. Sounds about like DS's planner that disappeared the day after he bought it last year. :sad2:

What a wonderful story! What a treasure to have. I still talk to my mom, too. I know she's with me, but I just wish she was here in person!

Elizabeth - I forgot to comment about C's school schedule! Yikes is about all I have to say! You go be the mother bear and get him the best schedule possible. They should listen to you since you've got the letter from the doctor. At least about the math! As for the ROTC, I really don't know what to say! Good luck, and I can't wait to hear how the saga plays out.

Theresa - I saw on fb that you had a yucky day. I take it the dr.'s office didn't pan out? Sorry about Abi's notebook. That is awful! I know that Katie would be lost without hers!

Lindsay - Happy birthday tomorrow! I'm not sure I'll be on much, and I want to make sure not to miss it. I've missed enough around here as it is.

Well, it's off to fight the end of the day battle, for me! We have jobs to finish, teeth to brush and reading to do!
Night all!
