DDA Chapter 22

I can see it too, Elin. :)

$60 is definitely an average/decent cost of a yearbook. The price depends on book sales (think of it like buying in bulk, the more you sell, the lower the price gets) and how many ads the yearbook staff can sell. My staff received very little in board funding, so they had to sell $1000 in personal and business ads. I had no choice but to make ad sales a part of their grade. Our book was 300+ pages (1800 students) and transitioned to all color while I was the advisor.

It is also pretty common for yearbooks to come back the following fall. It's the only way to include spring sports, prom, graduation, etc. in the same book. We typically didn't close our book until mid-June and I was still checking proofs for the rest of the summer. Other schools include those late activities in a supplemental or even the following yearbook. Once it's established for awhile, nobody minds waiting until September and most of the graduates picked their book up when they came home for Homecoming (or their parents or a younger sibling pick it up for them). Nobody signed yearbooks, at any grade level.

In many schools, yearbook is an extra-curricular. I was lucky it was a class, and I also had a rigorous application process. No slackers on yearbook...it's a thankless job, and the average life span of an advisor is 5 yearbooks. ;)

OK - I have emailed Photobucket to see if they have any idea what is going on. I cannot get onto the site with any browser except AOL. I can't see any photos (including my own) on any browser except AOL. I find this hysterical since most sites HATE AOL and I switched to IE and then to Firefox because of this very thing.

I have not had any updates or changes in any settings at all and Java is enabled, as well as scripting. I am stumped! Hopefully they won't be.

Elin I hope you get Photobucket figured out!

Elin,

try this in Firefox

Open the Tools / Options menu.

Click on the Content tab.

Make sure load images automatically is checked.

Click the exceptions button. Make sure that photobucket or other things are not listed as blocked.

OR...try this

A way to see if images are blocked is to click the favicon (Site Identification icon) on the location bar (this is the symbol that is right before the http://) and click the More Information button to open the Page Info window (Tools > Page Info) and go to the Media tab.
Select the first image and scroll though the list with the down arrow.
If there is a checkmark in the box Block Images from... then remove that mark to unblock the images from that domain.

A few more trip pictures.

:scared1:When was this? We didn't see any crowds like this but then again we didn't really spend all that much time in the parks.

We're not doing a cruise, but I'm still hoping for good weather :goodvibes Thanks for everyone's well wishes. It looks like the storms are either breaking up or moving much slower than expected:cool1:
Hope your weather is perfect and you have a wonderful trip!

Yes....we pay for books. I also pay a fee for both the elementary school & the middle school. I'd say those 2 fees are probably $300+ ea. I pay $175 for Kirsten's "lunchroom fee" this is not for food mind you...but for supervision. That fee annoys me the most!! When I had 3 in that school at the same time, it was a killer.

Public school. You can keep the books.....or turn them back in at the end of the year and get a small portion of the fee returned.

These schools are some of the best in IL. And this community has changed to be very affluent....so no one seems to complain (at least out loud) lol. I try to go with the flow...and not get too jacked up....but it does annoy me slightly.....

I pay around $7000 in taxes.....which again baffles me as to the exorbitant extra fees.

What can I say....I thought everyone pays these high fees :rotfl:
:scared1:I don't think we pay for books around here at the high school level and we don't pay a lunchroom fee. We do pay over $10,000 in taxes and we have a very modest house-actually our house is only valued at about $100K but the property is very high. My DH's family bought our house for about $10K in 1957. We bought it from DH's Aunt 25 years ago at about 75% of market value. It has increased in value about 8 times what it was worth 25 years ago which is great BUT it is a struggle to afford the taxes. The $10,000 in taxes is cheaper than private tuition for 3 and the school system is good and it is a beautiful place to live. We will have to pay a bus fee when Lizzy moves up a year from now-I don't know if they give you a break with multiple kids in school. There is a parking fee if the kids want to drive to the high school.

We did have to pay for cap and gown (total rip-off for what you get, by the way, but what can you do?). For high school band, they need to own their own instruments, but the high school orchestra has enough (well, violas anyway. I guess I don't really know about the other instruments) to lend for free. In elementary/middle school you can rent any band/orchestra instrument for $50/school year. There are several instruments that "rent" free, because it's harder to find kids to learn those.

I think there might be fees associated with marching band, but I don't know that for sure.

We pay $24/month for Lizzy's trumpet-it is a rent to own program. The $24 includes an insurance program too but I think at least $20 goes toward the purchase of the instrument.

So I tried a new recipe for dinner tonight (Melissa's 4-step chicken, if you watched Next Food Network Star). It was a definite miss, and Matthew's girlfriend was here. She was very polite about it, but the rest of the family wasn't. I didn't think it was terrible, but it certainly isn't something I'll try again.

Thanks, you two. Everything was fine in all my settings. I have absolutely no idea what happened. BUT... I am queen of System Restore anymore. So I just set it back to how it was on Monday and all is fine now. There has to have been some kind of change that I couldn't/didn't find that was made without my knowledge. I will have to keep track of when updates are done to see where it is coming from if it happens again.

Kristine... many, many thanks to you for all that typing!!

really? I just made this a few days ago.....of course we are dieting so by dinner most things taste pretty good! :rotfl2:what didn't you like?

Elin...glad you got things worked out :) very odd...these little things that keep happening to your computer

unfortunately...we are in total limbo. one knee is considered worker's comp....so we are waiting for the Feds to grant official permission for the surgery. and you know the government...speed is not their strong suit. it's very degenerative...and pain continues to be a big issue. I made him walk with me today....it was rough

Kristine, did Bill have his knee replacements?

Kristine I'm sorry to hear that Bill is still suffering  Let's hope the government gets things approved asap.

Chris and I are dieting too. How's it going?

Tedious process!! I have lost 7...Bill has lost 10. But for all the suffering we both feel like it should be more!! :rotfl2:Its the lack of walking that is holding things up....I feel bad going without him...and going with him is no fun either.

it was our 6th and final time to register at Goddard....we have been doing a lot of lasts this year.

Our year books are $60:eek:(I've got until December to pay for this...it's more than registration)

I think my yearbooks were more then that when I was in High School. Plus we did not get them until like Oct. or Nov. of the next school year, around homecoming. As they wanted to include everything including the prom and graduation in the book.

I agree... but other than these little things it is a great little laptop that has been worth every penny I paid for it.

If I were a betting woman I would think that Bob is changing things around on it while I am sleeping just to see how quickly he can drive me mad!

I have friends who did just that!

Me too!

I truly wish that is what my parents had helped me to do. I never lived on campus, always was in an off campus apartment. But it was before the huge bubble of housing prices in Florida. So there were good deals. The amount we spent on renting an apartment would have paid a good portion of what could have been bought at the time.

Had that been the case I never probably would have left Florida and would not be trying to move back now. I truly would like to move back or move to another state and would like to try and do the 1st time home buyers credit. But if this is the case I need to find a job and house ASAP. Back at the end of 2008 I told myself I wanted to be living in a different state by the time 2010 started.

On another note. I am getting different service units again for my job. I am losing 1 and getting 2 others. In a period of just a bit over 2 years I have had 12 service units, in 5 different counties. :scared1::rolleyes1
