DDA chapter 21

Before I forget and while I have time this morning, I wanted to post the short story about "Billy Hill and the Hillbillies" at DLR for Glynis. This may possibly be one of those stories that was only funny if you were there when it happened, so forewarned...

On one of my Yamaha training seminar trips to CA, I was fortunate to have a great group of teachers from all over the country. There were probably 30 of us being trained at the time and we got to be very close in a short amount of time together. We decided to go to DLR our last afternoon/evening for some much-needed and well-deserved R&R. Believe it or not, I was the only person who had ever been to a Disney park at that point! And about half our group were originally from the former USSR and China. They had a BALL. All the joy and delight of a first trip to a Disney park was obvious for the entire time. We giggled like little kids and really did a lot of relaxing. When I suggested a trip to see "Billy Hill and the Hillbillies" at the Golden Horseshoe they were excited but perplexed. Try explaining what a hillbilly is to someone from another country whose English is just passable. It was a riot. Maybe even more fun to watch their faces as they watched the show. They all came up with descriptions of groups of people in their home countries who fit the same stereotype of our hillbilly. But agreed that they would have had a hard time explaining to us what they were!

Elin, I can't believe you don't know the Chinese word for "hillbilly". ;)

Tammi, I just read the blog on AllEars about the pirate makeover. DS would come completely unglued - there is no way he could tolerate having his face painted. But it sounds REALLY fun.
I am sure we will all be jabbed countless times by unsupervised little "pirates" with their swords, so that part might be less fun.

Chanon, that baby is a girl. Your belly isn't going to round out. ;)
:rotfl:I have a strong feeling that Lindsay is having a girl, but still no good vibe about Channon.

Lindsay, am I right? ;)

Glynis - I've so enjoyed your TR!

Elin - Nicholas has asked me what a redneck is? I have a hard time trying to explain it to him!

Elizabeth - Last night I showed the kids the blog of the pirate league thing. They both said they wanted to do it, but I'm not sure about having the face painting and bandana in August. Seems it would be awfully hot. They've had their faces painted before and tolerated it, except this last time when Nicholas had his ENTIRE face painted, instead of just a little design. He ended up washing it off in a restroom a few hours later because it was itchy.

Nicholas woke up last night with a belly ache and a 100 deg. fever, so I'm staying home today. He has gone through this stomach stuff for about the past month. He will eat a meal and then complain of stomach cramping and have very loose movements. I don't know what's going on. I've talked to people at work about IBS and other things and really, short of keeping an eating log and determining what the culprit is, there is nothing to be done about it. And often the flareups can come several days after the food sensitivity so that makes it even more difficult to figure it out. But I don't think he would have a fever with IBS. I'm hoping it's viral.

Tammi, I am sorry Nicholas isn't feeling well. :guilty: Have you spoken to the pediatrician about it? Maybe he needs to see a gastro specialist? Robyn's DD was just diagnosed with egg allergy. Maybe Nicholas has something similar?
I can see how face paint would be a gooey mess in August. A $50 gooey mess.

Is there anything bothering him? I've been through this with both Nick and Hunter. Neither one of them recognized what was bothering them, but once we finally, months later, figured it out all the issues disappeared. Could something about Dad or going there be bothering him?

Well, Nicholas needs only to look at half of his classmates.... ;)

Kristin and I both suffer from IBS. Sometimes stress is the culprit, not food. Sometimes both. I have run a fever with a bout of IBS before, since it is an inflammation. Don't discount that as a possibility. I ope it is a bug and not IBS, but I would be keeping a food log starting now, just in case. I would also be keeping track of when the flare-ups are. My attacks are about 6 weeks after a particularly stressful period in my life.

As for your airfare ... have you seen this? I don't know what you need exactly so I didn't plug anything into Orbitz or Expedia to check.

Beautiful!

Elin-I can't believe how much cheaper gas is for you. I thought it sounded low when you mentioned it the other day but I only gas every 7 to 10 days so I thought maybe I just hadn't notice it dropping around here but now it is still in the $2.60 to $2.65 range here.:sad2:

 More great photos! Love the Dopey ones too!!!!

:hug:Poor kid! Hope you can figure it out soon!:wizard:

Bernadette - "normal" gas stations are down around 2.31 - 2.40 around here right now. But I think there is a lot of competition going on in our little section of the world because of this new pricing system at our grocery. I have noticed a dramatic price drop overall the area though in the last week or so. Some stations are 20 cents cheaper than they were when we got back from the beach.

Well besides not having internet access again this morning, I also had no cable and no phone until 9:30. I have no idea what the heck is going on.

Darn storm woke me up last night, I am so sick of the rain.

Good morning, DDA!

Glynis, I enjoyed your TR & pics! :)

Chanon, that baby is a girl. Your belly isn't going to round out. ;)
Well darnit I want that round belly! :rotfl: We'll see in a few weeks. I'm measuring 30+ weeks and I can still see my feet.

She called me the day before yesterday and we had a really nice chat. :thumbsup2

For those of you not on FaceBook...

Thanks for the votes of confidence about Lu's party. I know Lu won't remember it and it will turn out just fine no matter what.

And thanks for the hugs and pixie dust. I sure do appreciate all of it. :goodvibes

I'm sorry she's going through this (and you, too!). She is such a cutie -- haven't seen pics in a while. Happy Birthday to Lucy! I know the party will turn out well.

Where did this year go?!! (A repeat for those of you on FB...thanks for your kind words. :goodvibes )

NoahBDayinvitecopy.jpg

We are celebrating the 4th with some friends, so Noah will have a "practice cake" on his real birthday. His big party is on July 11th and he'll be baptized on July 12th. Meanwhile, Matty is having a Pirate party playdate on Tuesday, 7/7. Obviously, I have a long list of things to do... :rolleyes1

A fabulous job, as usual. Thanks for posting all the pics of Ikea and A and E's birthday party. Fun pics!

Well besides not having internet access again this morning, I also had no cable and no phone until 9:30. I have no idea what the heck is going on.

Oh no -- I hope the storms stay away and you get everything back on pronto.

Glynis -- great TR and I love all the pics. I'm glad you had a good but different trip to DL. I know it must have been bittersweet.

Chanon -- it's good you can still see your feet! I think you are on the right track on what to pack. If you like music or movies, take those to relax you. Take your own pillow if you are one of those who does so on trips, and warm super soft socks come in handy. Take a journal so that you can write down visits, gifts, flowers to thank people later, or to let them write you a note if you are asleep. Other than that, the two most important things will be with you -- Bob and the baby!

I'm just back from a business trip to New Orleans. It was certainly hot and humid there -- even coming from a hot and humid place I could tell it was worse there. Learned a lot and had some good food. I've been thinking of everyone and sending PD to those who need it.

We start a world series baseball tournament near DFW airport on Saturday. Andrew has been playing pretty well, but if you want to send special thoughts for next week, it would be very appreciated! We play 7 games in 6 days, and the times range is from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. I'll be glad when baseball is over for the summer.

Take care everyone! :)

I paid 2.14 at Giant yesterday. When I drove back from NC it was averaging around 2.60.

Where did you find that? And what is o/w again? I can't find any good deals on USAirways or United. I got our flights down: $70 for Alyssa, $90 for Nicholas and $60 for mine. The flight back is $150, so I've been holding out on that, hoping it drops or a ding comes up.

I'm taking Nicholas to the dr. at 3. Anything in particular that I should inquire about or ask for?
