DDA Chapter 19

We have been getting phone calls at least daily from the following phone number: (904) 259-4351. They are offering reduced credit card rates or wish to speak to us about our car warranties. We are on the Do Not Call Registry and we have asked them to stop. They hang up when you request that. I have filed a complaint with the FTC against them. Any of you having this problem too?
Not me but I'll let you know if I do.

Hi, all!

Elin - I got one of those calls this morning! We have caller ID, but for whatever reason I picked it up I didn't catch the full part of the message, so I pressed "1" as I wanted to know what account they were calling about, and why. Needless to say, I was not pleased to realize why they were calling, and that they weren't affiliated with our CC companies. The woman then had the audacity to ask me if I could confirm the amount of my CC debt?!?! As I told her, that is certainly none of your business, and if you call here again, I will be reporting you! (And, our CC debt is gone!!! So there.)
My dad was telling me yesterday that they got an automated call....something about his Farmer's National CC having an unauthorized use, press 1 for further info, blah, blah, blah. They don't even have that CC. He said that several of his neighbors have gotten that call too and that there is some scam going around.

We got a call like that too, from either Regents or Regions - I couldn't understand what they said. Anyway, we don't have a card from an issuer that sounds like that. I pulled up their corporate number online and called them - the lady I spoke to said she would turn it over to their security/fraud dept. because I was not the first person to call and report it.

Ugh. AGAIN, I got a call from the school nurse asking to come and pick up Alyssa. She was complaining of a sore throat, no fever. Um, NO! Send her back to class. But she might have strep, she said. Yeah, and if and when any other symptoms surface, THEN I will take her to the doctor. Bonehead. She has perpetuated the problem of Alyssa's drama by not telling her to suck it up. So Elin, I took your advice. I called my pediatrician and she is writing up a note for each child that I will then take to the school nurse so she can dispense ibuprofen as needed. THAT, hopefully, will take care of my problem. Anyway, I did pick Alyssa up about a half hour early, just because I wanted to have a word with the school nurse.

When we got home she was ready to go outside and play. Again, no. If you are too sick to be in school you are too sick to play.

Tammi - Sorry the nurse is a bonehead. :headache: Alyssa would be pretty sad around here, because they don't call a parent to come get you unless you are darn near dead.
I am pretty sure the only time DS has seen the middle school nurse was the day he got hit in the face with the tire swing.

Which reminds me...

He has been wearing his "spare" glasses for MONTHS. He said the good ones were bent, he couldn't wear them, they won't hold their shape, blah blah blah. Well, the good ones are the ones with the sunglass attachment. When DH took him out to play yesterday I told DH to go to Target and get his good glasses adjusted. So DS came home ALL happy "These glasses are so much better than the others!" Um, duh? They were TRIPLE the price! I HOPE they are better! When he was getting in the shower he said "Look! These don't make marks on my nose like the others!" Goofball. He goes to the eye Dr. in 2 weeks so he'll be eligible for a new pair of glasses through the insurance. Hopefully his prescription will be the same!

That's our rule, too. It made Mary very sad last week, as she felt bad enough to stay home from school, but wanted to go outside and play with Jacob when he got home. Nope. She got to stay in her bed and listen to everyone else playing.

Funny for the day....

WHY MEN DO NOT HAVE ADVICE COLUMNS.
Dear Joe,

> I hope you can help me. The other day, I set off for work leaving my husband in the house watching the TV as usual. I hadn't driven more than a mile down the road when the engine conked out and the car shuddered to a halt. I walked back home to get my husband's help. When I got home I couldn't believe my eyes. He was in our bedroom with the neighbor's daughter. I am 41, my husband is 44, and the neighbor's daughter is 22.

> We have been married for ten years. When I confronted him, he broke down and admitted that they had been having an affair for the past six months. I told him to stop or I would leave him. He was let go from his job six months ago and he says he has been feeling increasingly depressed and worthless. I love him very much, but ever since I gave him the ultimatum he has become increasingly distant. He won't go to counseling and I'm afraid I can't get through to him anymore.

> Can you please help?

> Sincerely,

> Sheila

> ******************************

> Dear Sheila:

> A car stalling after being driven a short distance can be caused by a variety of faults with the engine. Start by checking to be sure that there is no debris in the fuel line and that the fuel filter is not dirty and clogged. Replace the fuel filter if it is clogged. Check the vacuum lines and hoses on the intake manifold and also check all grounding wires. If none of these approaches solves the problem, it could be that the fuel pump itself is faulty, causing low delivery pressure to the injectors, or the fuel pump pickup strainer in the fuel tank is clogged with debris.

> I hope this helps,

> Joe

Tammi,
Sounds like Katie. You did the right thing & the nurse should not be calling you for something so minor, they do that at Katie's school too.

Well, mine have gotten the lecture that unless your arm is falling off or you need to have surgery, DON'T GO TO THE NURSE ANYMORE.

My girlfriend thinks that what I said was horrible. Mind you, she is single with no children.

I know I can come here and you all can relate! ;)

Good advice! It makes me kind of glad that our school doesn't have a full time nurse. The nurse shows up maybe once a week, but hardly even that. When Katie got sick in 2nd grade, and she was throwing up, her teacher called me, then put Katie in a corner of the room with a garbage can.

At least it forces my kids to not call any old time. They know that the teacher will just tell them to suck it up.

YES! that exact number---its so frustrating!

I know you'll never believe this, but I have an actual T-shirt question. I'm getting ready to do some shirts for our upcoming trip, and need to know where to get the best dark iron on transfers. Anyone? We ordered some off ebay last time, and they were ok, but made the shirts really stiff where the design was. Any suggestions?

DS was supposed to get his report card today, but he said they are passing them out tomorrow instead. Hmm.
Well, tomorrow is parent/teacher conferences, so either way I will know how he is doing tomorrow.

We don't have a school nurse...we have the school secretary. Hardly ever were my girls sick until middle school.

I am sorry Alyssa and the school nurse seem to have made a drama pact.

Your rule is our rule too.

I'm home. It has been an exhausting couple of days. Friday, my sinuses started to act up. They made running quite interesting. Chuck and I ran the 5K on Saturday. We caught a cab at 5:30 so were up at 4:40. The race started at 7am. We hung around and checked things out. We ran around Epcot World Showcase. He beat me by almost 2 minutes. Mind you, this is his very first race EVER!!!! He is more the hockey/football player type. I'm quite proud of him. I did maintain less than 14 minute miles for the 5K.

Afterwards, we had breakfast with Becky, Jennifer, Kyle, Elise & Avery. We had a really nice time. I got to hold cute little girls at once. I'm hoping Jennifer will post the picture of me holding both of them. Becky and I got to hold the girls for most of our time together except when they were eating.

Chuck & I then went back to our room and we took showers, I took some sinus meds and we then took a nap. My sinus medicine wiped me out and I slept for 4 hours. We were supposed to make a WISH meet at POR at 4:30 and I just couldn't wake up to get there until 6pm so I missed it.

We then took the boat ride to DTD and then the one to Saratoga Springs. We were in bed by 9:00 (but changed the clocks to 10) so we wouldn't miss the half the next morning.

Hooray for Chuck! What a great thing to accomplish! How fun that you had a mini meet for breakfast! I can't wait to see pictures! So, how did the half go?
